Mod notice after Mr Bob did a lot of annoying work in moving days of posts out of here. As we are heading into offseason, this thread is for 2023 list management only. Getting upset on previous trades can be taken to the vent thread. Lets keep this thread on track in the part of the year it's actually relevant

If Fyfe went to the GC for 600k would we get a juicy comp pick?
That sounds closer to band 2/3 - likely second round pick. At best if the contract is 3 years 2 Million might scrape end of first round. Needs to be in the $750k per year and 4 plus year contract length to draw the juiciest pick. Think Joe Daniher as the min for band 1. The clubs basically doctored the contract so that it triggered band 1.

Fyfe's not leaving but I believe the Daniher contract was two years guaranteed at 800k with an extension at like 400k with stupidly easy to meet criteria. Only the guaranteed amount counted and it is mainly based on per year. Fyfe could go to GC on 800k for two years and it would likely be band 1 I believe.

Hodge, Mitchell, Lewis
Franklin, Roughead
Rioli
Burgoyne

At best

Brayshaw, Serong, ?? Johnson or Erasmus maybe
??Amiss, ??
??
??

Yeah, we are a fair way away from them

Yep. We hope Young reaches an AA level (but maybe he is more Birchall than Hodge). We are banking on Jackson delivering. A lot of eggs in that basket.

I'm not saying we are going to replicate Hawthorn. No chance we make 4 GF's in a row. Just that if we are going to win one, I don't think it will be until 2026-2029. And somewhere along the way we need to find a couple of high level forwards.

The Jackson deal happened at the wrong time for us. If it didn't go through we would have a solid chance at landing both Pickett and Naughton. Idk where we are going to pull a KPF from now.

I feel like people are writing off of young forwards before they have even hit their straps.

Who's to say Amiss, Sturt and possibly Treacy don't become the premier forwards of the league?

I don't know why we need to go looking high and low for big name imports when, for all we know, they are already with us and just need developing.

I agree, however, until now we haven't given Sturt a shot. He needs a full season in the team just to see if he can play. Treacy needs at leaast ten games this year. Amiss must stay in the team.

Naughton is a free agent at the end of 2025. Getting him then for free is probably the best chance of a top level KPF coming in.
I’d give a F1 for Pickett this year. Would be similar to the Rankine trade for the crows

His contract expires 2024 though. You would need to convince him to extend another year. That is very risky as you are hedging your bets on landing him which means if it fails, we will have to wait to draft a forward in 2026.

Dogs would also have to be pretty bad to not match a bid because they wouldnt be accepting like pick 10+ for him

Haven't seen anyone write off Amiss and I'd suggest there's a pretty good reason for that.

There's a reason he's an exception though.

Jackson showed he can be a contributor in a more open and dynamic forward line. Amiss is a beautiful player and Sturt showed some potential, combined with Walters, Frederick and Schultz we looked very dangerous last night.

Not sure how Treacy gets a game as Banners did enough to get picked again.

He needs to press his selection in the WAFL. More importantly start taking contested marks.

Jackson, Amiss, Corbett with Sturt leading up the ground a bit looks more balanced. We need to see if we can do something different with JT. He was excellent up the ground last week and might even be able to train up as a backline replacement. We could have used a Logue like player against Lukosius. Taking Cox out of the back 50 following up Lukosius left us quite small down back.

You make good points about forward line. I’m sure Lukosius was playing wing a fair bit. I had the game on silent whilst at work (bloody 3:10pm start). But to me he looked like he was rotating between wing and HF. There were times Cox was on King and other times he was on Chol. Cox may have picked up Lukosius a couple of times when he rolled deeper forward.

My memory of Lukosius and he played an awesome game was that he seemed to be in the right place at the right time marking the ball on the way out of defence or forward of centre. That one long shot at goal he got came courtesy of a hack kick off the ground in the middle which he marked at CHF playing in front.

There was another at CHB where Rowell I think it was got tackled and just hack kicked it high in the sky and landed mostly by luck in his lap. But to his credit he found space and got away from his opponent. In that instance a guilty looking Aish ran across to man the mark. Other times Hughes was nearby. He had a few long shots on goals where one of the back men stood the mark but not so sure he was the direct opponent.

The team line-ups on afl.com show Lukosius on the Wing against Hughes. I’m convinced he also had Aish as an opponent.

The wings are a problem for Freo. Acres whilst a turnover merchant with his long bombs is at least a good winger.

Henry played the role quite well against Saints but not so great since.

Hughes for mine isn’t the answer and he should return to playing backline for Peel and be back up like Wilson in the event of injuries. I like both and they very good back-ups.

We need NOD up and firing (left footer and good runner). Hopefully he has a good game today for Peel. Aish my second option. Henry if he can find form I’m not ruling out but feel he can have more value as high half forward. Generally Henry’s kicks i50 are good. His kicks coming out of defence not so good. In addition to Aish I’d give Johnson a run on the wing. It is a position he could own for the time being. In time he will be a Mundy inside mid replacement. The other option to free up Brayshaw could be to get him out on the wing. He isn’t doing much in the clearances.

As for Tabs - he needs an extended run at Peel for mine. JLo made this call late last year and I think it is the right call now. He can work back into it with his running game. Once he is getting back to his fitness running levels he can come back into the side. We need a more mobile forward line.

Idgaf what our drafting strategy is this year, I just want 'footy IQ' is at the top of the list
Q: Where do you run when a midfielder is streaming forward toward goal?

A) towards the man with the ball
B) away from Amiss to create space and a second option
C) run? Can’t I just stand still?
D) in front of the other forwards

Tabs - “I’m thinking either C or D?”

Here’s a laugh, Pickets out of contract, mates with Henry and Melbournes got our first rounder. Henry to the Dees, Picket signs JVR comes home.
