Given how heavily front loaded Martin's contract was. I would offer him up and we pay the last year in exchange for a draft pick. Opens up a spot. Effectively just paying it out, but if you can get a draft pick on the way through take it. Would rather a list spot and a late pick than holding onto a player for an extra 12 months that cannot get on the park. Got to turn over this part of the list.

I’d move him if I could but we have so
many players coming out of contract that we have to offload, and it’s hard making so many changes at once. That task could have been easier if we delisted Cunners and Marchy at the end of last year.

In all likelihood if Martin is retained for 2024 he’ll probably get injured at some stage either during the pre season or the season proper at which time we could place him on the inactive list and get someone via the SPP or MSD.

We have built quite a rod for our list management back off the back of this talent v can't get them on the park cohort.

Is a big issue. Reduce any clubs list by 5 players for the year they will struggle we are no different.

Kind of means you’re effectively paying $500k (or whatever) for a first year player who probably got drafted in the 3rd round and likely wouldn't get games that year anyway.

Reckon we’ll have enough OOC players come October/November to make a notable change, maybe a contracted player requests out too.

It’s not like we’re the Gold Coast with the free access to NT academy players on top of the draft/trade/DFA/FA/rookie/SSP/etc periods or anything like that.

Martin is not getting delisted with a year running on a contract and won’t be traded .. no one would want him so we will have him for another year unfortunately .. hopefully for our sake his calves hold Up for more then 2 weeks

we've been saying 'hopefully his calves hold up' every month for the last three years now...

send him overseas or wherever and get the problem fixed. Nothing is working for him within the club. Can't believe this wasn't done 18 months ago..

Cunningham - Gone
Martin - Gone
Marchbank - Gone
Gov - unless he can string more than 5 games in a row without getting injured, he needs to go as well.
Zac Williams - As per Gov

The other one that seems to spend more time on the sickbed than on the field is Pittonet, so he is on a watch.

We can not continue to carry these players who sap our medical team of their resources..

Combine these players with Akuei, Mirkov, Dow, Fogarty, Philp & then 25% of our playing list is either injured all the time or we already know are not good enough for AFL standard and wont be selected..

I’d guess DC, Marchbank Philp, Fogarty are delisted.

Dow to request a trade.

Gov depends on how many games he can play.

Pitto

We’re not moving Martin (2024) or Williams (2026). Martin has one year left on drastically reduced money. Williams has enough time to foreseen himself, looked great before the unlucky preseason ACL.

Being a free agent signing, his deal can’t be renegotiated, so the only way anyone is trading for him is if we pay a huge chunk of it. I just can’t see it happening.

Mirkov is also 2024.

Akeui is OOC but is also a Cat B rookie so not counted on the main list, and we still have another free Cat B spot so he’s not taking anyone’s spot.

My money says Ed retires and we thank Plow and Honey for their services.

Hoping Kemp gets a few games, if he’s next in line after Gov he likely does, and then doesn’t end up requesting a trade.

So why did we effectively do nothing during last seasons trade period. We traded in just Acres. It was like they thought we had a complete list. We look years away from assembling the right cohort, yet we did nothing last year.
Should we be assessing Austin?

Perhaps list balance also means a limit of 1 injury-prone/high ceiling player per position.

To an extent: Marchbank, Kemp and McGovern all play the same position (KPD/3rd tall) and all have had injury concerns. We keep all 3 on the list hoping we have at least 1 in form and healthy at all times. It seems like we should ensure there's always decent coverage at the position.

Similar to having Cuningham/Martin - surely one high risk/high reward at HFF is needed?

i think i can see five or six who'll be let go or traded on there without any effort at all, motlop and TDK apart not much trade value either.
It’s an interesting list. Gov and Newman have been really good this year, the rest very meh.
I think Motlop and TDK will get paid, the rest we may play hardball with. Kemp and Cincotta are two I really hope we can keep just for list balance.

Also no way would JSOS and Cuningham be restricted

Working through our OOC list it’s plausible we see quite a few changes at the end of the year but of course this needs to be tempered by what we can bring in to fill the list.

Players heading for delisting: Dow, Fogarty, Plowman, Marchbank, Cunners, Philp, Honey.

Players heading for retirement: Ed.

Players heading for an extension: McGovern, TDK, Newman, JSOS, Motlop, Pitto.

Players in limbo: Kemp, S Durdin, Cincotta, Akuei.

Of course we could see players who we’d like to contract leave - such as McGovern or TDK.

Quite close to how I reckon it will go as of today .. reckon Dow will be delisted and Gov will get a new contract the rest spot on and realistic

Nor Plowman
It's from footywire, they scrape so the data isn't verified - not that much AFL data is verifiable

I agree.

We should put him on the inactive list tomorrow and send him to a specialist then we can at least add someone like Ronke to the list for the rest of this year.

Unfortunately he’s contracted for next year and completely worthless in a trade so I think we’re stuck with him for 2024.

If Martin reinjuries himself next year put him on the inactive list and replace via SSP or MSD and is delisted at the end of 2024.

IMO whilst List Management got the Cunners and Marchy situation wrong Martin’s inability to get fit is a failure of the S&C/HP team.

You're correct re Cunners Marchy being LM failures of not acting on what's in front of them. Should have been circa 2 years ago. Martin's inability to get fit is a failure of Martin's as well. If you are not going to prep and take the requisite steps to manage yourself in a professional environment all the best S&C in the world won't do much. You see it time and time again across the AFL. Talent gets you there, personal responsibility for your prep keeps you there.

Yes there are also guys unfortunately like Cunners and Marchy that have genetics not too dissimilar to papyrus reeds, however the harsh reality is the output across both groups is not any different.

Was chatting to a list manager a couple of months back and he was telling me of having put a short term contract in front of a well known small forward because he was saying the writing is already on the wall around his prep and he is around maximum trade value. His view was it can be another clubs problem in a season or 2. He has got too comfortable were his words.

Couple of weeks later I was having a beer and bowl of chips with my wife and kids watching the footy at an inner city pub and my son yelled out there is such and such. Said small fwd was in the front bar 3 sheets to the wind with mates. Made me smile re the convo previously had.

Reason for the story, it's a ruthless game, we would kill for a small fwd of this kid's calibre yet I more wish we were as clinical in protecting a high OUTPUT environment as this club. We carry a lot for all the 'right' reasons which is commendable from a personal standpoint yet the stark reality is will not get us to where we need to get to.

Be interesting if Sean Darcy did request to come home what he'd actually be worth. He's like an AA version of Pitto.
