So you don't think a team would pay a decent ransom for Cripps?

And re Dow. I know where he was drafted. Can't just blame the club, player needs to take most of the blame for not becoming elite as a pick 3
Of course they would, but does that help us at all? That's my point from the beginning. Why would you give away top end talent and start again when all we need is to have a decent game plan and execute it? The previous ideaology has not gone well for us over the course of the previous 20 years. So why rinse repeat?

I think having talent on a list is a great starting point for success. Developing the talent is the key to premiership success. To date, the latter has eluded us and needs to be rectified.

I don't know enough about Dow's attitude but I could expect him to be a bit disillusioned with 3 coaches and muliple assistants during his time at the club, providing different messages for instance. I would like to know when we've had a really good example of developing a kid, drafted mid draft who's exceeded expectation because of our exceptional development program.

Our 'game plan' is to trade from elsewhere, rather than develop from within.

But the game plan isn't the only factor why we are terrible. Glaring list holes and not enough depth.

Wow, just plain WOW. You'd give up the Brownlow medallist and recent Coleman medallist because they are having a bad season.
This is just pure mind boggling.

I agree giving up McKay (or Weitering as some have suggested), despite his struggles of late, is absolutely crazy. He is a 25 year old key position forward. It’ll set us back 4-5 years. Giving up Cripps however, a 28 year old midfielder, I can live with as he is far more easily replaceable. Unlike a lot of our players he has trade value.

We should be working out a strategy to get two of Reid, Watson and Caddy. Tdk will get us a first rounder. So will Cripps. We could also trade our 2024 first to Gold Coast for their first this year that they want to get rid of. That’ll give us 4 firsts. If we want Harley we might have yo give up 3 of them. He is that good it would still probably be worth it.

Would Collingwood have been able to get Hill, Mcstay and Mitchell if Grundy was still there?

I think it’s a pretty easy no, otherwise he would have stayed.

So if we were able to go out and get 2-3 quality players in positions of need by trading any player, why wouldn’t you?

If the gain is bigger than the loss, wouldn’t it be a good move?

We are 13th at the moment and likely to be passed by GWS and Richmond. We could easily end up with Pick 4 in the draft.

It's quite plausible that we could trade 4, TDK pick and next year's 1st for Pick 1. I'd hope to get a 2nd rounder back. I know this seems like way too high a price and we could set ourselves up with those 3 picks, but I don't know, Reid seems like a winner, a game changer.

I would do that trade so long as we get a 2nd back.

If anyone can afford to do its a team like us. We have enough talent that we can sacrifice 3 good players for one great player.

We’re slowly losing the plot thinking Cripps and harry should be traded after 1 bad season.

I reckon that the players are confused with Voss’ game plan ( if indeed he has one) - grab the ball and kick it long into a forward line where the only real movement comes from Charlie- if he misses the ball comes flying out with little or no pressure on the opposition. The ball then travels quickly to the other end and a goal potentially eventuates. We halve very few contests - soft in the contested areas and slow in the ball movement. The slow entry forward kills our structure- behinds predominate our scoring because of the oppositions pressure.

**** me. Talking early draft picks already …”sigh”

If you think an average of 17 possessions 3 tackles and 2.5 marks is garbage enough to be banished for ever, then I don’t know if you actually follow this sport.

Have a look at some of the poor individual efforts from players this year, they are a lot worse.

Dow was given 2 games last year, that’s hardly enough time to build any continuity.

Why is he held to a different standard than others?
because dow is not as good as kennedy, hewett, cerra or walsh and he can't gut run and tag like ed curnow. He will likely play this week

Just can’t believe we are potentially back here to be honest.

Just trying to latch on to anything that might distract me to be honest.

He’s the face of the club. It’s just natural that we blame him for where we are at. I don’t think the moment he has a bad patch warrant calls to get him traded though.

Not a chance he's getting the blame because he's the face of the club. I doubt many of us are that superficial.

It's the disposal, it's the decision making, it's the lack of defensive accountability. As I said, it's not just a bad patch. It's the difference between his best and worst. I'm sure he can come back, but we need more consistency from someone of his ability and leadership position.

I don't think they should be, but if Austin goes berserk they'd certainly go before Charlie or Walsh is all I'm saying. Joking about Reid and the odd overreaction to some bad games I still think we're only about 5-6 changes away from being highly competitive.

This year has been a disaster well and truly but it's not an accurate reflection on our groups ability.
Let’s say we do put them up for trade, what would we need to get in to make us a better team right now? Let’s explore that

Dow had poor endurance before the draft. This made him high risk. He was the type of midfielder that needed to be a very good runner. His lack of work rate and endurance has gone on to be his number 1 problem.

Secondly he’s always been an ordinary kick.

It was a failure of talent identification in terms of what’s required at afl level. He would’ve always been drafted but should never have been taken in front of the likes of Cerra and LDU who were much more rounded footballers.

Saying Carlton has ruined the kid overlooks his significant flaws. We have not been able to correct those flaws and there is no guarantee anyone else could.

Well thats actually a very good question. I thought about this the other day and in all honesty, I don't think there's much we could do short term to improve our list with the nuclear option.

It really comes down to how we can transform out list to be better suited for the modern game over the next 4-5 years to coincide with Cerra, Walsh, Boyd, Hollands etc's primes. They are the hard running good user types that look suited to what we're currently seeing dominate the league.
