My delistings/trades

Ed Curnow (ret)
Plowman
Philp
Honey
Marchbank
Dow (Trade)
Fisher (Trade)

Unless we can get a genuine KPD I’d keep S.Durdin. We need a KPD to back up Weitering. If he can stay fit and he’s only 27

Big call on Marchbank,I think he’ll get a one year deal.

Next years draft we have the Camporeales and Walker. If we rate them I would trade next years first for a gun player or another pick this year
Good idea to trade next years first with F/S options coming through but I’m not we have the salary cap to chase an A grader this year. Also there aren’t many A Graders out of contract currently so getting someone would likely cost us our first this year which is a late pick in addition to our future first.

Think the list changes are pretty clear at the moment

Departing, Ed, Mirkov, LOB, Honey, Plowman

Trade, Dow, Fisher, both surplus to needs it would seem

Tough list decisions, Cuners, Marchbank, S Durdin, Philp

Needs seem pretty clear.

Draft a young KPD.

A Zac Bailey type, dangerous forward that spends time in the middle. Think Zac Williams can play that role, so perhaps go to the draft or look at a Lohmann type to develop

A mid/3rd tall dynamic forward, a Jack Martin/Ash Johnson type
On reflection, in 2023 we’ve traded for Acres & drafted Hollands
Boyd soldiered on
So that’s three.

Can we add another 3 to 2024?

ZWilliams is one.
Where do you think the other two would come from?
Is Lemmey close? Binns? Cowan?

In terms of game plan.
We should keep it simple and maximise our usage of H & CC, when are we ever going to have two quality tall fwds again? Then add in plan B, C & D

binns the only blues player to make the vfl team of the year.........
He's has an outstanding year and I almost feel he should have got a game against GC when we rested alot of players. Although I'm not opposed to players working on their craft in the VFL

If Dow hadn't come into the team I suspect he would have been in that team of the year and potentially in the running for the best player of the season

But by coming in he's given us a bit more trade capital for the off-season

Some names that we may target, that are available that could help us

Hollands
Harmes
Lohmann
Gresham
Billings
Henry
Bailey Smith? Not happy at Dogs
Brockman

The cupboard is fairly bare. Hollands and the draft seem to be best bet

There is talk of Alex sexton from go. Clearly has talent and fits the, always plays well against us criteria. I like him a lot

29 years of age; 5 goals from 8 games this year, averaging 6 disposals per match. No thanks.

I know he is a bit of a flog but Tarryn Thomas is the exact kind of player we need
Also id be looking at Goldstein for a couple of yrs upgrade on Pittonet and could teach TDK alot

Still think Gresham would help us massively.
Same - I draw a comparison with Martin, where neither really lived up to the initial hype that saw them spoken of as potential stars but in a smaller role they can be valuable contributors.

Eli Hollands is showing a bit in the VFL GF & is a solid alternative.

I think he offers less in general play and linking up than those 2.

See I've always considered Kennedy a medium forward who can pinch hit in the middle for five to ten minutes a quarter. Not someone that can play with Cripps, but to cover him when he's resting. Can mark and kick a goal. Then again, so can Cripps.:thumbsu:

We're a 30+ goal per season small/mid forward short of a premership.

Unfortunately these guys don't grow on trees.

I don't think a single player who kicked 30+ in 2022 is any chance of being at Carlton in 2024.

Tom Papley.. if only... :'(
Jack Martin is your 30 goal a season forward to compliment Charlie and Harry. 17 in 13 games from rd 13 onwards.
Jesse Motlop kicked 24 goals in 21 games.
Matt Owies kicked 27 goals in 18 games.
Corey Durdin kicked 11 goals in 11 games.

We aren't short on goal kicking forwards.

Was a main driver in the middle of the ground with wins over St Kilda, Melbourne and for a half over Collingwood. Was one of our main ball winners in there. Does things only Walsh can do and finished this season playing a lot better football than what Cerra dished up in finals.

A little bit of an exaggeration - Dow only played ok against St Kilda and Melbourne - he didn’t get coaches votes or any media votes for those games. Meanwhile Cerra, who will likely win our B&F, was universally recognised as one of our best in the elimination final win. I’ll take Cerra’s output over Dow every day of the week thanks.

How GWS, Lions and Collingwood have played this finals series. Their ability to run and carry and apply pressure with leg speed.

Yes Brisbane and GWS scored freely against the 2 worst finals teams (Port and Saints) but when pitted against a proper team on Friday night GWS couldn’t score and ironically they would have won had they scored what we did last night. Collingwood have scored less than 10 goals in both their finals. They won both games because of their efforts in the contest not their leg speed IMO. Finals become grinds so strong contested footy is more critical than outside leg speed IMO.

What will be stupid is that we will trade Fisher and Dow and the players that we will need to improve the team and players who are like Fisher and Dow. If we can upgrade on them that would be awesome, but will we is the question.

Williams will be back next season so he is a significant upgrade on Fisher as a running half back and effectively takes his spot on the list so we can afford to lose Fisher as we don’t need that many running half backs on the list.

Dow is capable but he is behind other to be a best 22 mid and cannot play another role so we will lose him to another club where he can be a starting mid. Elijah Hollands could be an upgrade replacement as he can also play forward.
