Review 2023 National Draft Review Thread II [McKercher, Z.Duursma, Goad, W.Dawson, Hardeman, Maley]

I actually introduced myself (I’m opening a 150 pax pizzeria & function space just down the road, but it was more about being a North fan) & whilst my intention was to just say hello, he asked my name, stood up & we had a chat for about fifteen minutes.

He’s couldn't have been nicer & without me prompting it at all he said his brother has done a great job this week & said regardless of how it pans out it’s amazing to think we have five top 20 picks.

Talked about his time at Melbourne/Casey & used the Trac & Oliver draftings as comparable to Sheez & Wardlaw in how those elite players set up a premiership. He then said Brayden George needs to be included in that too.

I’m not going to post out in the open on here what he said regarding the upcoming draft, even though he prefaced the second bit with ‘he didn’t say this directly’, because it would feel like a bit of a betrayal.

I’ll just say, I hope Brady calls West Coast’s bluff.

He was legitimately so nice & we had such a good chat about culture in business (regardless of whether it’s hospo or a footy club etc) & we exchanged phone numbers (his idea) so we can ‘catch up for a beer & chat about footy.’
Lame
We wanted Brady’s phone number 😆😆

Still think it’ll be 2 and 15. The pick 2 in this deal has been completely undervalued IMO. Both Mckercher and Reid look like bolted on 200 gamers of high quality.
l would rather we stay at pick#2, and #3 and let WC have all the pressure on who to take. Either way we will get Reid or Mckersher..its a win win for us..with the wc feeling the brunt of their supporters if they dont get it right..

If I were Brady I wouldn’t be making any calls to West Coast. If they want our pick 2, let them call us - and it will cost them Pick 1 this year + their F1.

We have the upper hand here folks.

Or they can just take McKercher or who they want at pick 1. Why would they give us their F1 lol

If you’re a West Coast supporter, don’t even bother.

Fair enough. I'd personally have a few others who are better decison makers and ball users ahead of Philactides.
His ball use is actually pretty good. I think one person says his ball use is a little hit n miss and then people jump on that. His highlights package is pretty impressive. It’s his defensive craft that needs work. But he has been a mid all throughout his junior’s. I actually think with his speed and long kick he’s more suited to a wing rotating thru HB.

Rawlings couldn't be clearer about it tonight; 6 picks and we'll only be using a max of 5, so either 57 goes to waste (unlikely you'd think) or there's a deal ahead of some description
Yep 5 picks in the ND draft (either our 5 first rounders only or we trade up and pick 57 becomes our 5th selection)
6 spare senior list spots so i reckon we taking a dfa

To go 38-6

Or we go 37-7 and take extra rookies instead of a dfa

That's Jade to a tee, loves a chat, just an all-round genuine bloke.

Exactly - just pick the player they want. But they’ll want us to pay them the kitchen sink for a pick they don’t want. We would be actually doing them a favour by taking it off them - and it can cost them a F1 for the privilege [emoji23]

Next minute on the Eagles board - “lol those norf beggars now think we’re gonna trade two pick 1’s for pick 2 and they said Reid is shit but they’ll draft him for lols”.

Preface this by saying that I’ve not watched anyone live and have no known scouting abilities, but Caddy looks so much better to me in highlight videos than Duursma? Looks like he has a freakishly long wingspan and pack marking ability. Can someone more knowledgeable than me give me a summary of why he isn’t rated in that top handful?

I haven’t watched him all year either, but looks to double grab the ball a lot and sprays em in front of goal. Again, not going off much.

Have heard there is concern amongst some clubs about his father's influence.

He had dominate games. Like kicking 6 and getting 20+ possessions up the ground. He’s kicked a lot of goals this year and last, so he’s had the hype thing early on.

Did well in the agility test as a top 10, and I also read he did well in the 20m but obviously outside the top 10.

Very long wingspan helps alleviate concerns about his relative lack of height.

I’ve commented this year that he doesn’t seem to jump at the footy with much success. And it’s been noted his hands aren’t fantastic and that he drops a few. I guess the good news is that he gets the chance often.

Kicking is clearly an issue. Capable of the assy, but often misses more routine shots at goal. Many also think his decision making is suspect.

Other than his solid to great production over the last two years, the fact he played well at vfl level this year is noteworthy.

Also had a few health issues this year which wouldn’t have helped.

Clearly in the 6-10 bracket.
