Naww, you guys are still hung up on that? Go have a cry about the "Essendon media mafia" and why you guys were robbed of an individual award that is pretty meaningless in the end.
Not hung up on it at all, just think McGrath is one of the most underwhelming number 1 picks the comp has seen.

Been very good this year coming out of defence. Probably on the fringe of the AA squad between his defence and attack.
They are up and about aren't they.
They must not have been dogshit on the weekend like they are most weeks.

The Rising Star award has evolved into a popularity and often politically motivated award over the years.

Kevin Bartlett giving Ryan Griffen zero votes in the year Deledio won it being a prime example.

I thought McGrath deserved it the year he won it himself, even though a few players from that draft have gone past him

0 goals, 0 behinds, 1 goal assist. Is that what "attack" means? He is the definition of stat padder this year.

3rd for score launches amongst all defenders (only behind Moore and Daicos)
6th for score involvements amongst defenders (Daicos, Sheezel, Baker, Sinclair and Docherty)
20th for disposals amongst defenders

About 8% of his disposals have started a scoring chain. 20.2% of his touches have been involved in a scoring chain. The best half back this year in Daicos averages 5.5% and 20.3% for those respectively. He's averaging more SI per disposal than all defenders bar Liam Baker and Nick Daicos, and averaging more score launches per disposals amongst all defenders than all bar Darcy Moore.

McGrath has fewer disposals than your captain but more SI and SL. Which one is a stat padder again?

14th at Essendon for score involvements 🤣. Totally AA bound.
6th for defenders in the league. Almost as if midfielders and forwards get more score involvements than defenders. Amazing that.

How's McGrath going these days?

Keep on topic please - this thread isn't about McGrath being the worst #1 pick in history and being a lazy stat padder

I'm not a McGrath hater, but there were 3 very poor moments from Saturday night's game that were highlighted. Not moments from an All Australian defender. Very lucky to have won that game because we'd be hearing a lot more about his mistakes IMO.

Yep, biased. But look at what I quoted above. He's been excellent this year and probably leading our BnF.

He won’t be, have rated Parish’s ability at the contest higher but he is missing games, Merrett would be up there, Stringer with his impact. There’s a few role players who could poll surprisingly well but it’s not much of an achievement imho, due to the amount of injuries to key players meaning as long as he plays all the games, he’s at an advantage. Been good tho!
