How do people feel about going early on JHF? Jesus Christ he looked like Dangerfield out there and pants the Lions boys. Watched him in preseason, role was good and wasn't overly impressed, bit better the second game just gave away the frees. Feel like I need to pull the trigger on making moves after the Jones and Laird C debacle, but it might be too early. Not sure on how consistent he can be but I see the 60% CBA role holding.

I'm also thinking of getting Daicos. I know the tags are coming but I watched him closely in preseason, game 2 was a write off due to Fin Mag but game one he got burnt so much and still looked great. He should have scored 170 this week, again he got burnt so much and he would have had a goal and a few assists if they gave him the ball while he was open. He shouldn't set foot in the midfield imo not strong enough yet. He's next level pig.

Another issue is Bruhn. Its stoppage or bust for him, no outside game at all. Right now imo he's their best stoppage player but he's on the bench a lot and Chris Scott loves to rotate him on the wing. They put him on the wing last 10 minutes of the practice game, just this time they did it much earlier in the 3rd quarter. Looked pretty gassed and started turning it over late. Parfitt coming on didn't do him any favours, but Bowes probably plays and gets some CBAs now. As good as Chris Scott was last year I thought he constantly played players out of position over the last decade (Dangerfield fwd in finals cost them many times) and I can see him being stubborn and playing the old heads more in the midfield while Bruhn just gets a bit of a go in there. He had 77% Tog in the praccy game so F knows whats going on. Just a minefield of red flags, prime midfield role and good TOG I reckon he does 90 easily but it doesn't seem the case, another week of data would be nice but there might be a bomb score if he goes wing again.

For now

Jones>Daicos
Kelly>Callaghan
Bruhn>JHF
When is Boak back?
It looks like Drew and Butters are getting less CBAs to accommodate JHF.
What happens when Boak comes back?

I've decided to boot Bruhn instead of Flanders this week.

The Cats have the Blues. They'll want to bounce back, so they'll look to their experienced mids. Bruhn will get limited CBAs again. When he does go in there, he'll get monstered by the Cripps and Hewett, get tired and spend half the game on the bench.
I’m dumping Bruhn.

Should be able to shuffle things to turn him into Gulden.

Get to keep Bruhn and Hopper by default this week due to other issues. Hopper has to find another yard or two and a bit more aggro. Bruhn doesn't read the general play that well to seagull (my take) so unless he gets more in and under time i can't see this working out. Also the fact Chris Scott clearly has his favourites when the games in the balance and i highly doubt he will be one of them going by this round.

Even if JHF goes quiet later on he will still make serious coin and i expect him to hit 500k easily before the bye weeks with a price right now of 348k and a BE of -9 after 1 week of footy!

Off all the mid pricers he is a must trade in if you dont own him. Even with normal games like an 80-90 etc he will still go up in price massively. After first price rises he will be over 430k by the time Rd4 starts.

I’m holding a week on JHF.

He was very impressive on the weekend but I have some lingering doubts based on his performances last year.

If he brings his A game this week against the pies in Melbourne he’ll be in my team round 3.

He'll only be 430k by Round 4 if he scores 130 in each of his next two.

A more realistic projection of 2x 90s, and he'll be 395k. If he averages 90 over his next 5-6, he'll get to $430k, but then that will be the peak (obviously projecting without spike scores).

How worthwhile of a pick he is likely depends on how much you believe he can average 95+, which would put him into keeper territory. Don't really want to be using two trades (in and out) if he's only going to make 80k or so.

Probably worth waiting a week (unless you're trading a dud pick like Fyfe) and if he goes 100+ again this week, jump on when there's guaranteed cash gen. If he comes out with a 60 this week, that cash gen will dry up very fast.

Boak is going to play the high half forward role. Depending on how Port go this season, I could also see him being rested at various stages.

He might be back this week. Depends on when the rib injury has healed.

But there is a changing of the guard with the Port midfield which had to happen. Rozee, JHF and Butters are the number one trio to run through there followed by Wines, Drew and Boak.

Decent points.

I am backing him after what i saw against the Lions. Pies are up next and purely midfield wise they are an easier matchup than what he just played and the Pies also rarely tag and if they do it aint going to JHF just yet.

Completely fair. I do like the pick, and agreed, he looked great – absolutely pantsed Neale and Dunkley.

Just from my team's perspective, at $350k, I'd probably want to pick him as either my last upgraded player, a keeper, or a season-long M9/F7 swing for later on, so I can wait a week to see if he looks the goods.

Quick note - maybe ignore the calculations I gave before as they might be slightly off. TooSerious' salary projection tool seems to be malfunctioning atm.

Looks like I'll be doing Jelly > JHF and Chesser > Callaghan this week.

This will also give me the cash I need to do the 3 rookie trades I have planned for next week which will leave me with a bench of:

Jones
Wilmot/ Cowan

Mackenzie
Bytel
Baker

Ratugolea

Chandler
Davey

Burton does take kick ins so that slants to him slightly for me. Doedee or Cox for intercept marking next in line.
Not much between them though.

Holding a week is the right move on JHF.

His DE was pretty good considering his preseason output.

So many problems with my team and overall structure at the moment.

Jones at D4
Ash at M5
Hopper at D6
Fyfe at F4
Bruhn at F5

Considering the following to partially rectify this mess.

Off Ash after one game? Whitfield out and WC being terrible must help him?

Couple of points considering JHF

  • lions pressure rating in second half was as low as it gets.
  • none of the lions mids had over 20 touches
  • won’t have 3 goal assists every week and 11 score involvements

I feel like those considering him need to wait and see another week. Whilst pies won’t put a lot of time into him our pressure will certainly be up. DE should suffer as a result.

For those considering going a week early on Daicos:

This bewildered me late last season as teams still let him just run around loose all over the backline with no one parked on his arse all game in a purely negating role. Lions did it with Maguinnes from memory and he had a stinker.

Surely the time has come to park someone on him for 4 Qtrs as you cant just let him run free like he has been or else he carves you up.

That's fair enough I have to get him in as well. However, I feel its stupid to trade Flanders to him. Flanders played in a side that got belted in wet greasy conditions and scored a modest 64. Personally I would like to see him play this week on a dry Etihad surface. Yes Sheezel is a must have but I don't think getting rid of Flanders is the best option for it right now.

Also I am in the exact same boat as I have Flanders f5 and Rat f6, but don't have enough $ to get Rat to Sheezel

Flanders had 5 touches in the first half and 14 in the second.

I reckon he'll have a better time of it against the Bombers than he did the Swans
