Were all talls drafted by Clarko in the first 25 odd picks.

In fact, he used most of his draft capital on talls when he got to the club.
KPD with high draft picks is what I questioned...and you've clarified. Thanks.

We probably won't be drafting anyone who will be a KPD next year while Logue is out. Even O'Sullivan is probably a third tall in his first year, at best.
That's why I think its best to think of our needs in terms of long term talls and bridging talls.

We need both at both ends, plus another ruck.

Yeah I don't think we can play funny buggers with the not bidding on Walter at pick 2 or 3. Other clubs will be all over that.
I'm sure the AFL would talk to recruiters and Twomey/Shifter about the rankings to get a consensus.
I think we could get away with not bidding at 2 and select Curtain and bid at 3. Still saves GC some points.

Sure but we need a long term KPD anyway and starting as a 3rd tall at least at AFL level is likely for both O'Sul and Curtain next year but it increases our options.

Dursma better than Curtin everyday of the week and then some.

Taking Curtin would be the biggest mistake since operation Barbarossa.

You're meant to think that was a good thing these days.

We've got history of not bidding when we know we wont get them, ie Daicos
I think that's a little because everyone wants to keep in the good books with the most powerful club in the land to be perfectly honest. We weren't the only ones to not bid on him. I don't know if that holds true for gold coast.

So we're not into him?
Sounds like GWS aren't going to give up much in terms of compensation for taking on his contract
Is it possible that we're keeping our powder dry on this because the Mckay situation hasn't been finalised?

Or maybe we were just waiting for the announcement about rookie spots before making final list decisions.

We've got a lot of spots to fill this offseason, up to 11, and its likely less than half of them will be draftees.

That's quite a few trade targets yet to be reported.

Even with no pick attached, we could get him by giving a late token pick. Could still be a viable option for 2 years. As long as he's happy to spread that money over the 2 years.

Why would he be happy to spread the money out? When he can stay and earn all in one yr.... he would be happy to play for 2 more yrs on more money.... ie just using round numbers if we agreed to pay 2m for 2 yrs.... which is his 1.4m next yr and .6 for further yr

He ain't getting anywhere near 600 in year 2 from anyone.

Logue (25), Corr (29), Comben (22), Dawson (25), Haynes (31), Phillips (24)

I think that would be an okay KPD group and no need to force a high draft pick. Maybe get a prospect to develop, with a later pick.

Phillips is the key one, he might not be a world beater at AFL level, but he's the best KPD at VFL level and will provide a stop gap against at least 5-6 teams in the comp.

It will be enough to cover 60-70% of the season for Logues return.

We would need to take him in the rookie draft, as the SSP period is after the draft.

I said I was using round numbers.... it will need to be somewhere btw 0-600k though otherwise why would he do it

A club wouldn't add to his year 2 salary unless GWS take on a good chunk of his year 1 salary or add in a good pick. No one is taking on GWS's back payments just to have him come to their club for free.

Haynes will be 32 in May and is very under sized to play key position.

Ben McKay, North Melbourne and Essendon

“There’s no way they’re letting him go without getting guarantees that it’s top-tier compensation,” Edmund said on SEN’s Whateley.

“So in that case it would be Pick 3 otherwise I take it that North Melbourne will match and make it really difficult.

“At this stage, North gets 2, 3, 16 and 19, Ben McKay gets to Essendon, but only if they get that top-tier compensation.”

Buku Khamis (Western Bulldogs)

“Just staying on North, they’re in the mix for that fringe Bulldog Buku Khamis.”

Mabior Chol (Gold Coast)

“He’s a man in demand - Brisbane, Adelaide, Hawthorn and North Melbourne have been mentioned.

“They (the Roos) have been sniffing. He’s said to not be on the same level of interest as those former three clubs - the Lions, the Crows and the Hawks.

“Does have two years to run on a contract so would stay, but he and the club feel he just won’t be playing. Initially he wanted to stay but then clubs reach out, they sense an opportunity and then it perhaps becomes clear from the player’s point of view that with some serious Academy talent coming there, why would I stay?

“At 26, obviously he needs to play. He’s put himself on show in recent weeks with an encouraging VFL campaign to finish. A lot of interest in him, we await a decision from that player.

“But certainly a man in demand. He has the talent but for whatever reason hasn’t been able to string it together consistently.”

Race for Gold Coast’s Pick 4

“This is hotting up. The Western Bulldogs have long been seen as the frontrunner.

“North Melbourne had told Gold Coast, ‘just wait, just wait, we’re waiting on our special assistant package, we might be at the table here’. So whether they have enough to compete with the Western Bulldogs.

“On the surface they do. What they’re willing to give up to get it in is another question altogether. We know it’s up for grabs, for obvious reasons, to the highest bidder.

“It will be changing hands. Whether North can compete with the Bulldogs remains to be seen, or whether North pivot and go for Melbourne’s first pick.”
