Yeah but pretty sure the AFL said they will scrutinise those deals going forward because Daicos went to pick 4.
Sounds like it's time for us to make the AFL usher in yet another rule change.

There really should be a tally board.

There's an interesting play going on at the moment obviously.

The GC pick seems to be the fight for Nick Watson talking to people.

The Dogs are desperate for him, they wouldn't be trading up specifically for him if he was going at 2,3,4, there's been rumours we have been right into him also and I imagine that play is for him also at the GC pick.

The grey area is who we would take with 2 & 3 if we have it.

If we are fighting for Watson with pick 5, it really comes down to who we are taking out of McKercher, Curtin, Sanders, Duursma and Caddy (the darkhorse).

Duursma hasn't been spoken alot on here, but he's a legitimate contender for both picks.

I may take a break from BF if we select 2 of McKercher, Sanders and Duursma at those picks :tearsofjoy:

Or the third option, trading up for Reid, which is my lowest preference.

He also did mention a particular type of mid that’s making the game hard to play because of how much effort it takes to dispossess them.
A big bodied 6 foot 3 mid

Very interesting.... does that mean we are not keen on Mckerch or Sanders then but could be keen on playing Curtin in the mid and def

Clarko says lots of things. I don't reckon he'd be giving away any draft or recruiting intentions to a radio station.

In particular the way he reacted to buckets... not overly sure he is concerned but made it sound like a big blow to ramp up that comp pick

There are 38 players on the main list and 8 on the rookie list at the moment.

Ziebell, Cunners, Hall, McKay and Goldy are all gone from the main list, leaving 33 players.

Mahony, Bonar, Young, Spicer and Perez probably join them, that leaves 28.

(Edwards, Howe and Turner are likely gone from the rookie list too).

With the extended rookie list, I think we can have either 36 on the main and 8 rookies, or 37 & 7, or 38 & 6.

So I think there is space for 8 to 10 on the main list, and 1 to 3 on the rookie list.

That's a fair few new faces at Arden St over the next couple months.

So lets say there are 10 new places after Brayden George returns from LTI.

If we disregard the best available in the draft for a moment, how would you divide those ten spots by need?

My first thought would be something like this:

THE SPEEDY GUYS
2 x outside mids (Stephens, McKercher, Declase)
1 x rebounding defender (Fisher, Ralphsmith, D'Ambrosio)
1 x small forward (Watson, Spargo, Mannagh)

THE LONG TERM TALLS
1 x defender (Curtin, O'Sullivan, Murphy)
1 x forward (Caddy, Croft, A Reid)

THE BRIDGING TALLS
1 x KPD (Haynes, Graham, Phillips)
1 x KPF (Chol, Burgess, Khamis, Derksen)
1 x ruck (Flynn, Moyle, Soldo)

That's nine. So maybe, in an ideal world, you'd use picks 2, 3 and the GC pick (if we get it) for best available, and then use the rest to fill those needs.

Yeah I don't think we can play funny buggers with the not bidding on Walter at pick 2 or 3. Other clubs will be all over that.
I'm sure the AFL would talk to recruiters and Twomey/Shifter about the rankings to get a consensus.
We also traded pick 1 under a clear agreement that GWS would take Cadman. So we knew the players we were after were still there.

It could depend on whether we have pick 5 as to who we take.

We simply must pick up a KPD and if we have 5 we could opt to go O'Sullivan at 5 lessening the pressure to take Curtain at 2/3.
Our KPDs could be Logue, Comben, Corr, Dawson and rookie draft Ethan Phillips or similar. Then use a late draft pick on a prospect.

I don't think that we necessarily need to use a top 5 pick on a KPD.

Off the top of my head, the only KPD drafted early at Hawthorn during Clarkson's reign was DGB whose now being trialled forward.

Not sure if it's just circumstance or by design.

Dealing with us for less points than another bid might get us in trouble - that could be clear enough signal for draft manipulation and IMO with a pretty good case against us. The deal would have to probably include a player as well (and not the same one they might deal to the dogs) because otherwise its just a straight up gotcha.
Not if we give 19 and 20 next year. GC may want 2024 picks.

They could sell that to AFL. We didn't get any real trade offers (for 2024 1st rounds) for pick 10.

Roughead
Franklin
Dowler
Bailey
Thorp
Renouf
Schoenmakers
O'Brien
DGB

Were all talls drafted by Clarko in the first 25 odd picks.

In fact, he used most of his draft capital on talls when he got to the club.

Logue is out next year, Dawson is 50/50 to make it at best and Comben hasnt played key def.
We probably won't be drafting anyone who will be a KPD next year while Logue is out. Even O'Sullivan is probably a third tall in his first year, at best.
