He will love it in Perth imo. He will have the same cult status like Naitanui, Cousins and Fyfe, he will thrive and feel enamoured by it. I genuinely hope we dont trade the pick even for a crazy good offer. You build a team around a bloke like him. I believe he would be a one club player.

His family will be thrilled.

If we offer up anymore than that to moved from pick 2 to pick 1 then we have officially lost the ******* plot.

For the first time in years we have a bounty of draft picks inside the top 25, the last thing we need to do is torch them all for one player, especially when we have holes all across the field that could be sorted with those later first round picks.

Reid simply isn't worth it. I'm of the opinion that he has less upside than any of the top tier midfielders that have been taken over the last few years (Daicos, JHF, Ashcroft, Sheezel & Wardlaw).

Is he honestly any better than who we already have on the list like LDU, Tarryn and Wardlaw?

No, I don't think so.

Don't get me wrong he'll be a good player, but he isn't this generational saviour that media would lead you to believe.

There's a generational player in this draft alright: Jed Walter.

But aye Reid looks like he could well end up another Cam Rayner

This is a reverse Christmas morning.

We've already got all our pressies under the tree.

But I'm worried Dad might pawn them off, head to Crown and put it all on black.

How do you think he got the money to buy them in the first place.

I wouldn't be surprised that overpaying West Coast for pick 1 was a nudge nudge wink wink condition from the AFL attached to our priority picks.
So it's a priority pick to the Eagles by the back door with no extra outcry from the Helen Lovejoy's of the media and coaching fraternity.
Just prepare for disappointment everyone. It could be CCJ-esque in terms of a rip off.

Pick 3 vs Pick 6 and 8?

Split 3 for 6, 11. Then 11 & 18 for 7 or 8.

Mckercher, + 2 of Caddy, Osullivan, Curtin
V
Mckercher, Duursma

If Duursma is rated that highly, go tall across the park,
Duursma, + two talls.

Tall stocks : Larkey.....Logue....abyss.

Draft a Mckercher with the top 5 pick next year.
Mckercher, Sanders & O'Sullivan > Mckercher & Duursma

There is no way that was our final offer this far out and if we've offered that much already, then I think we should all prepare ourselves for how big the real offer could be.
Giving away all of our assistance to move up one spot when all we had to do is lose the last game would make me so angry

I still can't believe Walter isn't rated number 1 externally by many.

Physical key forwards that can move like him only come around once in a blue moon. I know it's a moot point but if we had pick 1 and Walter was in the open pool we'd be insane if we didn't take him over Reid.

Doesn't suit the narrative, no point pumping him up given only the Suns have access to him.

If we end up with a free rookie list spot and Jeremy Sharp doesn't get taken by either of the WA sides, I'd give him a crack on our rookie list.

His VFL season was fantastic, avg's 21.4 disposals, 8 marks and kicked 12 goals. He'd keep the pressure on Stephens and Scott to perform on their wings.

agree, and on a different angle, what do you think about Mannagh?

I've been a big big supporter of picking up Mannagh, around these parts of I've been singing his praises all year. With the Barlow link and the limited depth in this draft, I think we'd be silly not to take him.

Whatever happens with pick 1 either WC, NM or whoever - I think they should select Walter at pick 1. GC can get stuffed.

Yeah that tag of generational is media sensationalism and really unfair to any draft pick to have that tag placed on them without even kicking a ball at AFL level.
However, the question really is, is Harley worth fighting over to trade up to pick 1? And the answer is yes...but within reason.
If this was 2020 at the start of our rebuild, l have no doubt that the club would've sold the farm to grab Reid but with our current bounty of 1st rounder picks especially 2&3, l think Brady will have one more stab before the period closes and let them sweat over the weekend until 13th
Giving away all of our assistance to move up one spot when all we had to do is lose the last game would make me so angry
Then that would have given the AFL all the ammo it need that we tanked and not only lose any assistance package but also endanger our whole draft.

I think he will try his best if the Eagles take him, JHF had the same intention, there was a lot of negative things at the time and those outside pressures can be too much for teenager who has a big spotlight on them. It is hard to predict what the environment will be like at the eagles in 2-3 years, as bad as this year was thanks to a lot of injuries I don't think Eagles have bottomed out yet.

Being bad for a sustained period puts a lot of pressure on. Geelong will go hard for him if he is taken outside of Victoria.

However, just quietly, if you offered us the same deal as before but without pick 23 we'd probably accept it, especially if we can find a way to combine 15 and 17 with our own pick(s) to move into the top 10 and hopefully snag Curtin as well as McKercher with 2. Gut feeling the people pulling the strings with the club dont want to be languishing at the bottom for as long as most predict we will be, it will affect our bottom line, we might think getting McKercher and another top ten player (ideally Curtin) is better than Reid by himself and might lead to us being better sooner.

I think he has similar issues to JHF and Martin before them, they are hunters of the ball, you are right that they are the type of players you can build your side around and that is what you have to do, they wont be as impactful if you do not. I think Fagan showed a masterclass of coaching the way he dismantled Port's midfield and used JHF lack of defensive instinct to cause havoc in the PF.

We had the same issue when we took JHF, we didn't have the midfield to compliment him so he didn't help us to be more competitive, he had some good highlights, but so did everyone who played on him.

Richmond had a very good group of mids before they took Martin and we still knocked them out of the finals with a potato team, before they got Prestia. Once they completed that build, they were hard to stop. We have invested a lot into our midfield and I think some we have taken wouldn't suit Reid being there regularly. It wouldn't all be sunshine and flowers.

They need to use Wembanyama in the NBA as their benchmark for a truly generational player. 2.24cm tall with a 2.44cm wingspan. He is truly gifted. Reported to be the most exciting player entering the NBA for 20 years. For comparison the average height in the NBA is about 1.98cm.

Imagine someone like that playing AFL. What would you trade if Wembanyama was playing AFL?

By this comparison and in the words of Jack Dyer, Reid may only be a good ordinary footballer!

West Coast keep simultaneously acting like they don't want to trade, but begging teams to make offers.

It reminded me of this, so I adapted it;

Even Wemby is not generational..one of the most exciting talents to enter the NBA draft but placing the tag of generational on any rookie is really stupid in my opinion...a few rings, all NBA, MVP's and then place that tag but right now, he's just an exciting 7'4 wunderkind as they say in soccer.

While he may not be a generational player it would be nice to get him for the marketing side of things...
