11 pressure acts and very little 1v1 logged contests (i.e he's a loose defender). Which is worse than Nick Daicos and Whitfield.


He uses it as well as Sheezel, but doesn't have anywhere near the defensive output and impact per possession.

Still very good numbers though @ 24 disposal per game (he averages 3 kicks per game, so he's 21 disposals per game adjusted)

Whitfield averages 26 disposals per game, but has 5.4 kickins per game, so averages the same disposals per game as Ash, adjusted.


Sheezel gets it 26.3 disposals per game (with 1.6 kick ins per game) - 24.7 disposals adjusted.


Sheezel is outperforming Ash and Whitfield in almost all half back categories and is a top 20 AFL pressure player to boot.

I see a fair bit of Ash live and I’m not sold.

He’s a good runner but he has a mistake in him and he’s relatively poor defensively.

There’s a whiff of whipping boy there.

It's a shame our run at fringe players really hasn't worked out.
Imagine if we had finlayson in his current form backing up larkey every week.

Forget the fact he is supposedly a frd/ruck because we definitely don't need another 3rd rate ruckman, fwiw i would rather greenwood chop out the ruckman than CCJ. which just leaves comparing him as a fwd, at present he isnt fit to lace Membreys boots. obviously that may change but atm he aint great.

and whilst it may be harsh on comben sadly its true, and its not just his latest mishap you can rate him on, he is literally taylor garner 2.0.

Only discussed Membrey because he may be gettable and woul dmaye our fwd line instantly more potent. but any player that has the ability to lighten the load for Souva will do. how good would another Jarryd Waite be right now??

As for CCJ , he just isn't very good. the clocks ticking and we really need to find another decent KPF and another KPD. could do with a small fwd as well but i think between Brayden george and bobby Jr we have a couple of potentials there.

The one I'd want to get done heading into 2024 would be LDU. Get him up into that Larkey/Simpkin bracket sooner rather than later.

thats pretty much my point re comben, how many games did taylor garner play in his 5 year tenure? dont get me wrong he looks the goods, but you could be the 2nd coming of wayne carey and if you cant get on the park its meaningless.

Kicking efficiency of 76%. (below average)



The best 5 kicks for medium defenders for the lowest turnover % per kick are Heath Chapman, Jimmy Webster, Nick Daicos, Jordan Ridley and Josh Goater.......

He's at almost 10 disposals per turnover, but his average disposal length is much shorter, meaning chip kicks and small handballs.


Miller Bergman is in the top 10ish at 7.6 disposals per turnover.



The solution is staring us in the face, just get more games into them.....


Whilst we think Goaters kicking can be poor at times, it's actually better than most.

He bites off a bit too. Statistics as always only part of the story. Not every turnover is created equal and not every retained possession achieves anything productive. Great posts BTW, intersting stuff. Always good when the eye test makes sense against the reality. Josh in good company there.
