blues have just signed 2 irish cat b rookies

meanwhile brady has not got any cat b rookie free hits

Most other clubs have a cat b rookie or 2 developing on their list

Dogs signed a cat b Australian rookie mid year O’Donnell the cross code cricketer who played games shortly after

Agreed, get in Reid + Watson/Mckercher (hopefully Sanders too) and trade for needs - Curtin will take years to develop as well having potential go home factor.
This is the exact logic that has us in a hole now.

Keep taking midfielders and ignore the talls = epically shit backline and one man band forward line.

Just take Curtin and start developing some talls.

People keep banging on about Reid’s immediate impact. We don’t need immediate impact we need impact when we are realistically challenging.

We shouldn’t be giving up anything. Take what’s left over of Reid or Curtain and move on.

Absolute fantasy talk of us not needing to draft talls because we can magically pluck them from the state leagues. Short sightedness at its best.

Ok back for 2023s version of trade and draft frustration.

More than happy for us to use this year as a land "player" banking draft to set us up for years to come.

If we are able to pre list Sanders, then use 2 and 3 on McKercher and Curtain we not only open the door to finding some great players but open massive trade options in the years ahead.

Invest plenty in development and we could end up with a strong team with potential to extend draft capability.

McKercher and Sanders could initiate a Tassie midfield, am sure they will be given draft capital galore, happy to take a slice of that.

WC going no where for a few years, plenty of high picks to shed for a Curtain showing signs.

Even "and it pains me to write as I love him" Tommy Powell may look to head home and given the chance has the skills to generate a high capital return.

This could set us up for multiple years of solid and sustained draft presence. Dynasty type effects "if" we can develop our current onfield kids.

Thinking 24 may still be a slight train wreck for us so no rush, why not invest in the mid to long term.

There is no guarantees that some of these Tassie kids will want to run home to the new team either.

I could imagine quite a few of them might get accustomed to the Melbourne lifestyle and it would take a massive money deal to get them back home.

The appeal of Tassie might be players who have settled down / have families looking for a change in lifestyle.

If you were a mid twenties single young bloke, what’s more appealing?

Brodie Grundy dropped again

Likewise James Jordon

Every ******* year we change some of the rules. God forbid the sport go an entire decade without something changing.
I think in this case it’s due to clubs manipulating the rules. I think a veterans list is a good idea (in theory), because it’ll allow the rookie list to be used for what it is supposed to be used for, Drury types.

God forbid we don’t go two years of no changes
If the vet list was brought in to have vets sit outside the primary list then id be ok with keeping some older players

Could be a decent tweak to that old rule

Knowing they won’t take a list spot off a younger player
Cue the Corio Bay Retirement home vote

I think it will be 2 and Port R1.

Take it or leave it. We have no reason to offer anything more.

I also think WCE will do that trade.

For all the posturing about WCE not losing Vic players, the reason for that is they have mostly been a contender when any meaningful Vic players were at the club.

Try and sign Reid to two contract extensions when you win 20 games in the next 5 years.

In that case they should use pick 1 on Curtin. Simple as that
