I'm concerned we'll stiff Goldstein in the name of succession. Truly hope to be wrong.
The other elephant in the room is Cunners retiring. We may not have enough draft selections and free agency acquisitions to fill the list spots come years end.

What works in Goldis favour is he pulls his own weight. Still as fit as ever. He’s not slowing anyone down.

I'll take your word for it but looking at some of their other mids sometimes not sure he'd be much worse than some of them.
I think Dow is a finished AFL product.
Just need to look elsewhere at who we can recruit with some savvy free agency deals

See are problem is imo. These guys can all play footy.

Greenwood
JZ
Phillips
Powell
Cunners
Mahony
McKay- is so slow in transition.
Shiels

They cannot spread as the modern game requires. You can carry a couple but not that many.

Need to sort it out ASAP.

Lazz, Spicer have some pace but neither of them can get the ball.

It’s a flipping mess.
I wonder if the lack of spread is because we have been so poor for so long. Josh Walker was a far more aggressive player while at the Lions. I thought he was the statue of Josh Walker rather than the real deal at North!

I hope this is why improvement does not have to be linear.

Be interesting to see how he goes tonight, I don't think we necessarily need his type with Phillips, Powell, Fordy, Goater and Brayden George probably similar types. I'd prefer we go after lockdown/rebound defenders, key position defenders and wings with running power and good kicking skills in terms of trades and free agents. Ideally a left footer.

Honestly, if McKay leaves then Port is probably the best outcome for us. We can easily match a trade and they don’t have enough draft capital to get it done, so it would be in their best interests to offer him a bit more to make sure we get a 1st round compensation pick and therefore don’t match the bid.

I’d prefer to keep McKay and for him to play well. But if he leaves and we draft another KPD or two this year, there’s still plenty of time for them to develop for our next premiership window.

Not having to give up a high draft pick is worth an extra 100k a year. Port would be stupid not to

If we move him on, we deserve whatever pain comes our way. No other club treats their champions as ******* disrespectfully as us
That’s not right, we are generally very good with our champions. Most often we have let them decide when to retire. Boomer was an exception and a huge mistake for many reasons.

Can't keep someone who doesn't want to be there. Match if the compo is no good and force a trade.
Keep players who are 100% all in on turning this thing around. The team will play better because of it I reckon.
Agree, find a free agent who is ready made now and draft a couple of young key positions to develop as well in the VFL.

i think i made a post or two about it at the time, but dow was shockingly good against us in the vfl earlier this year. he is way above that level. his footwork inside was exquisite. made wardlaw look silly multiple times.

im not all that eager for us to pick him up but i think he can still have a long afl career somewhere.

I think Tucker is a very capable and talented player but again we keep picking up players with poor injury histories. I hope we can get some good games out of him but wouldn’t be surprised if he is gone once his contract is up.

The more that I see from McKay this year, the more that I would be very, very happy to get pick 3 for him.

The idea of landing another Wardlaw/Sheezel level of player in a position of need is very appealing.
