Yeah could be a good free value get

I’d rather quality in ash, Clark or miles Bergman tho as out of contract targets

Sharp is not a bad fall back likewise GCs sharp also

All three of those would require first rd picks though you would have thought... ash was what top 5, hunter a couple later and berg what low teens.... so we will have to start putting our high picks towards these types of players rather than wanting the shiny new toy... not sure ports 1st would secure any of those and yes they are all ooc but the expectation would be a 10-15...

I think ports first is sufficient for those players as they are out of contract

Jordan Dawson is better than any of those players, and he went for Melbourne’s future first, which ended up being something like pick 17.

Treloar was 14 and some later picks swaps.

Aliir was a second rounder.

All of Clark, Bergman and Ash are good, but none of them are top 5 players at their clubs on proven form.

Reckon a late first rounder easily gets any of them, and a high second rounder probably would too since they’re OOC. (Not that we have one yet)

Happy to use dawson as a precedent even though that was a long drawn out process... but both allir and treloar were part of salary dumps so picks not as fair a reflection

Fair enough. I don’t remember Aliir being a salary dump per se, as I assume he wasn’t on a massive contract at the swans. I guess there were reports Sydney had a tight salary cap around that time tho.

Psd - give him extra money

Daniel Hoyne on his segment stated Miles Bergman as the second worst kick in the league based on their kick rating system.

For the role he plays, amount of pressure he's under and the types of kicks he attempts.

I have access to CD, so had a look:

He has the second worst turnover rate of anyone in the league that gets it 15+ times.

He turns the ball over every 3.2 possessions.

The worst is Charlie Constable at a turnover every 3.0 possessions getting it 22 times a game.

Just behind him is Corey Wagner and Oscar Baker.

For someone who kicks it 72% of the time at an average of 23m per kick, he has a kicking efficiency of 63%, one of the worst in the league for the amount of disposals he gets and the role he plays.

He does average a similar amount of intercept marks to someone like Jordan Ridley, but his 1v1 and loss % numbers are shite when he's in a contested defensive situation.

When coupled with turning it over after 30% of these intercept marks, it is shooting yourself in the foot.

That honestly reads like peak Jamie MacMillan.

I think I'll pass now.

What about Dylan Williams

What about Dylan Williams

Average kick of 22.6m

Turns it over every 4.0 possessions (below average)

Loss % defending of 36% (below average)

Kicking efficiency of 76%. (below average)

The best 5 kicks for medium defenders for the lowest turnover % per kick are Heath Chapman, Jimmy Webster, Nick Daicos, Jordan Ridley and Josh Goater.......

He's at almost 10 disposals per turnover, but his average disposal length is much shorter, meaning chip kicks and small handballs.

Miller Bergman is in the top 10ish at 7.6 disposals per turnover.

The solution is staring us in the face, just get more games into them.....

Whilst we think Goaters kicking can be poor at times, it's actually better than most.

patience is our thing

Whitefield and Haynes are the two I'd be looking at from GWS's salary dump perspective.

Haynes at 31 and in the Hodge role we might get 2-3 seasons out of. If we are looking for some leadership for the group to take us forward, he would be the guy I'd be targetting, especially if we get rid of Hall, Howe, Shiels, Cunnington, Ziebell soon.

He's still one of the most efficient users out of the back half in the league, intercepts, intercept marks, defensive 1 v 1, win %, spoils, score launches are all still well above AFL average.

Whilst Whitfield isn't as good as Sheezel at half back this season (Sheezel is 3rd in the league for % of score involvements per possession), he's not far behind, 5.0 turnovers per possessions vs Sheezels 5.7.

They both move the ball forward a similar distance per disposal of around 18-20m per touch.

Whitfield is very much in the Nick Daicos mould of powder puff down hill skier category though, with some of the worst pressure act numbers in the league.

Whilst Sheezel is around 24 per game, which is top 20 in the AFL.

Interesting.

Any CD insights on Lachie Ash, if you have a moment mate?

17 meters per disposal.

Kick efficiency of 79%

5.5 disposals per turnover.

Score launches of 0.7 (16% of teams score launches)

11 pressure acts and very little 1v1 logged contests (i.e he's a loose defender). Which is worse than Nick Daicos and Whitfield.

He uses it as well as Sheezel, but doesn't have anywhere near the defensive output and impact per possession.

Still very good numbers though @ 24 disposal per game (he averages 3 kicks per game, so he's 21 disposals per game adjusted)

Whitfield averages 26 disposals per game, but has 5.4 kickins per game, so averages the same disposals per game as Ash, adjusted.

Sheezel gets it 26.3 disposals per game (with 1.6 kick ins per game) - 24.7 disposals adjusted.

Sheezel is outperforming Ash and Whitfield in almost all half back categories and is a top 20 AFL pressure player to boot.

That is phenomenal for a player that hasn’t even played 15 games
