Someone mentioned just last yesterday our lack of a ’get out of trouble pack marker’ or some such .
It use to be Waite and Daw. And Maj was only for a short period of course.

Our inability to contest around the ground is a huge issue.

Amd won’t be rectified by recruiting a mid or small fwd.
If the Eagles don’t call Curtin surely we do ?
Just curious for the draft experts opinions. Amd anyone else’s for that matter.

Kind of now thinking we can’t lose at the drafts
I don't watch enough GC but what about Chol?

They'll have Walter and King

No way would I go near Sean Darcy..

Not only would it cost us big draft capital for a lumbering ruckman, there’s a lot of weight on those tree trunk legs so eventually he’ll be breaking down every 5 mins.

In fact, in 7 years as a professional he only averages 14 games a year.

Hard pass.

He needs to play chb so he can be the one jumping into people. A lot less leading and trying to turn on a dime too.

Give the guy a chance for playing a season or two.
Yes, yes and yes.

If you listen to the podcast the other day Viney even mentioned this as an option for 2024.

imo having a guy like that sort of papers over a bad gameplan, and that was Brad Scott's saving grace for the longest time. If he hadn't had Petrie, Hansen, Goldstein at times, Tarrant, Daw and Waite as you mentioned there's no way he would've lasted as long. A big part of the problem now is we have guys like Luke McDonald who developed under Scott's gameplan and don't even think about where they're kicking it. Just roost it as far long down the line as possible. Without a rare contested mark talent waiting up the field that's a 50/50 at absolute best, and it usually just burns the hard work other players have done already, further destroying team morale. The younger guys don't do that, they actually know how to lower their eyes and look for short options because it's how the game is played now.

The leagues first CHF made out of rice paper . I’ve lost all faith unfortunately

Hate that you've had to come to the dark side on this one mate. But his history is just injury upon injury. You just can't plan around him.

I still rate him highly but I just have no faith he’ll get on the park is all
I'd love nothing more than for him (and Wardlaw) to play every round next year and tear the competition apart.

But we still another key forward contested beast.

Just find a decent ruck in a state league, or draft a few a few as rookies and roll with the best. Maybe Xerri will get a bit better. But it's the least impactful position.

Ruckman from last few GFs.

Stanley, Hickey, Gawn, English, Nankervis, Mumford, Grundy, Lycett, Jacobs, Naysmith, Roughead.

From memory, only English and Grundy were top 20 picks (18 and 19). Most are plonkers.

Exactly. The difference between a competent ruck and an elite ruck is less significant than any other position, unless the ruck is elite around-the-ground. Which someone like Grundy and Darcy aren't. (though Gawn and English are, and Jackson will be)

Mate before he broke his leg he would have been averaging about six disposals a game maybe one mark ( l haven’t got the stats so I’m going on memory) I reckon he has along way to go before he’s a star
A young key forward in a dogshit team struggling statistically? Well I never. I would've thought the athleticism, the hunger to tackle, the speed and the marking prowess meant he has bucketloads of potential to become a star, but maybe the club and 98% of people on here are wrong about that
