Morris:
  • Goldy has a one year offer.
  • Shiels one more.
  • No one told of delistings yet. Waiting for AFL decision on list size. Could be up to 10 changes.
The question here is whether Goldy having a new offer is likely to deter another ruck prospect who's looking for game time from choosing to come to North. Hopefully not.

Chol will be 27 at the start of next year so is in the right age bracket.

Not sure that he's any good though. He's really only had 1 good season.

And also didn't he go to Gold Coast as he wanted to return home.... not sure he would then turn round and come back to Mel?

Not sure we would want any ruck prospect who isn't confident of displacing a 36 yr old veteran

True, but if it came down to a choice between being understudy to a club champion for a year or being straight in as the no.1 big guy at Sydney or Port Adelaide this might simplify their choice a little.

Given we preferred Xerri when he was available, you'd expect any ruckman with an ounce of talent would give themselves a fair shake.

I've been told there's a few clubs waiting on the CBA to know what contracts can be offered. But with the CBA at an impasse there are guys who have no idea if/where they'll be playing next year. And going by Paul Marsh's comments it doesn't sound like there's going to be an agreement anytime soon.

I’m glad we’ve not gone nuts on delistings (when we did the big cull a few years back it was a bit too gleeful, that round of footy hadn’t even finished) but surely a handful of players must have been told, it’s the perfect opportunity to give them the respect of a face to face dismissal with reasoning and support.

It may be the coaching group have more faith in Xerri than the BF consensus. Having seen him stand up to Witts, I'm of that view

Liam Shiels (North Melbourne)

Liam Shiels is likely to play on, he’ll turn 33 in April and the club is keen for him to hang around for at least one more season,” he began on SEN's Whateley.

“He will eventually transition into list management and recruiting… my information is he will play on next year.”

Todd Goldstein (North Melbourne)

“If he wants to play at North, there will be an offer for him at North.

“I guess there’s three options for Todd. Does he play on at North, does he play someone else or does he retire? I’m told the third option is the least likely.

“It looks like he’ll be playing somewhere next year.”

Tarryn Thomas (North Melbourne)

“Mitch Cleary reported last night there’s some interest from Essendon in Tarryn Thomas.

“He is contracted for next year, he’s on good cash. So North will drive a hard bargain, a late teens first round pick won’t do it. They’ll want more than that.

“So whether Essendon is willing to give up its top 10 pick is yet to be seen.”

Liam Henry (Fremantle)

“Liam Henry has requested a trade and my information is he’s a fair way away from settling on a club.

“The reports that Hawthorn, St Kilda and North Melbourne all like him are true… what’s not as well established is what the Dockers would ask for.

“My belief is they’d request a mid-late first round pick as a starting point. They currently don’t have a selection before pick 21, having given away their 2023 first round pick to Melbourne in the infamous Luke Jackson trade.

“This gives them scope to get back in the first round…”

So would you give the Port pick for Henry? Overs, I would say, need something coming back

Someone should also break it to Mitch Cleary that not only will a late teens pick for TT not cut it, neither will Essendon's first. Even to start a discussion, we're talking a Tim Kelly package imo
