If we have to match Sanders, we might not have that choice.
If I'm reading the tea leaves, today's news that the AFL is looking at matching for NGA players similar to F/Ss is warming people up to a change - the talk is for implementation in 2024, but would it be a surprise if it were introduced this year for the bottom four sides (maybe with a limit of one per team)? Gets AFL House off the hook of giving us some assistance, but we land Sanders anyway

I hope it's not * we have to deal with to trade TT. There are only 7 players in the open draft in the top bracket, drops away after that. We would be missing out on all of them. I hope we tell them to get GC pick 4 to trade to us

So we basically get nothing and sanders costs us a first rounder?
Great assistance there AFL..

Someone should also break it to Mitch Cleary that not only will a late teens pick for TT not cut it, neither will Essendon's first. Even to start a discussion, we're talking a Tim Kelly package imo

Draper or Ridley.

Got enough draft picks.

Liam Henry (Fremantle)

“Liam Henry has requested a trade and my information is he’s a fair way away from settling on a club.

“The reports that Hawthorn, St Kilda and North Melbourne all like him are true… what’s not as well established is what the Dockers would ask for.

“My belief is they’d request a mid-late first round pick as a starting point. They currently don’t have a selection before pick 21, having given away their 2023 first round pick to Melbourne in the infamous Luke Jackson trade.

“This gives them scope to get back in the first round…”

I think a mid to late first is ambitious

Trades happen before the draft so we won't have to match with pick 16 if we've traded it already.
Okay, but then we don't get the trades we've lined up with third and fourth rounders, and we carry a deficit into next year.

There goes any Mckay replacement and half back reinforcements to free up Sheezel.

I rate Tarryn as the most talented player on our list. However if he was to stamp his feet asking for a trade after all that we'd have to consider it.

A deal centred around pick #8 coming to us probably would get it done. Maybe something like getting their F2 for our F3 in the trade would balance it out more in our favour.

It'd be a very disappointing outcome considering his level of talent and we'd just be trying to salvage some upside.

You’d hope the playing group as a whole would target him mercilessly in any match that’s played, if he were to leave.

I simply can’t accept picks alone as acceptable for Thomas. I know pick 8 is Essendon’s best player atm, but I’d be wanting their second or third best player to accompany that pick. You just know it’s not long until Thomas starts consistently winning games off his own boot.

I agree, but I get the feeling if he was going to do that, he would have done it now.

It all just feels so weird, don't know what to make of it.

Interesting that only Mitch Cleary is running it ... the Channel Essendon stooge.

Cal Twomey, who I rate far higher didn't mention it today, even Jay Clark gave up on him leaving.

Smells like Dodo stunt more than anything.

I doubt they would unfortunately. Or we'd start a fight and watch his team beat us by 12 goals.

The days of sticking it up hated teams seem long ago.

I'd have happily traded any of our 2023 wins for victory over any of Cola, * or Visy.

I'm not connected whatsoever mate so no idea how genuine this goss is. But because of his resume to date, if there was smoke on this one I'm not sure the "just hold him to his contract" would pay off. As much as I usually like the concept.

We're probably not winning the 2024 premiership (shock) so if he and his management act like douches we probably have to cash him in.

Will repeat I think he's a potential top 10 in the AFL player, have banged on about rating him above LDU and all others from the get-go for talent. Hopefully the media talk is all posturing nonsense.

Have you seen our players?
They don't even defend each other when someone's getting targeted by opposition's.

I'm sorry, that's bullshit, look how they went in for Jyza on Saturday.

That could mean that we get Sanders, Schoenmaker and Callinan.

Would never get anything near the value of Thomas' potential even with him under contract. The only way we would ever "win" a trade is if he went further off the rails, and I'd rather that didn't happen even if it was elsewhere.

Hopefully this all blows over, or was nothing to begin with.
