Giants very under manned, so you can’t get too excited by individual stats. Still our depth looks very strong. Tunstill put his hand up this week so you can put him on the list of 6 or 7 who have some claim to get a call up to the seniors.

Fab 5 for us IMO have been >

Darcy Fort - Just too good for this level, dominated.
James Tunstill(BOG) - Contested beast, good balanced mid.
Rhys Mathieson - Another one who is above this level, keeps delivering every week in the reserves.
Tom Fullarton - 5 goals and some good contested marking, is getting to the right spots.
Noah Answerth - Plenty of energy, had a couple of clangers but worked his butt off to make up for it and did, 6 clearances, 7 tackles.

Dev Robertson, Wylie Buzza, Kai Lohmann, Nakia Cockatoo also good.

Why? Not trying to be a smart arse, just wondering with his development (as disjointed as it's been), experience (as limited as its been) and potential, why you don't think he's worth an early 2nd round pick. He's a 1st or 2nd choice mid fringe player here, but could certainly be a starter at other clubs. Given a consistent run in a Afl team in his preferred inside mid role I think there's great scope for for a successful career.
Pretty much for the reasons you have outlined.

He “slid” in his draft year due to a perceived weakness with his disposal by foot.

He’s a fringe player outside the best 22, and we’ve continually looked for, and traded in, better options to play as an inside mid.

He’s never been a high accumulator when he’s had his limited chances.

And he’s never had a consistent run to show he’s a better player.

He’s out of contract, which means we either trade him for what we can get, or he refuses to sign a new contract and becomes a delisted free agent and walks to the club of his choice, because he knows he’s not going to get a genuine chance here, especially when we have what looks like two very good mids tied to the club in the 2024 draft.

If we have a contract in front of him, he would have to enter the draft to reach a new club. It's only if we proactively delist him that he becomes a free agent for signing, otherwise every player could just decline to re-sign and become a delisted free agent.

Who's the other good mid tied to 2024? L.Ashcroft is one, who is the other?

Sam Marshall. Boarding at Melbourne Grammar and also playing for Sandringham.

He’s currently playing for our academy side, while we’re playing in the Talent League (the new name for the NAB League), before the private school season starts.

I expect he’ll play for Sandringham when the private school season finishes.

Great seeing Fullarton lead well and start to clunk contested marks. Feels like a guy who has learned from Gunston and is starting to show genuine progress and confidence. A great thing for us.

How is Sam Marshall part of the Academy?
Does he live in Brisbane but board at Melbourne Grammar?

I would assume his parents live up here and he is boarding down there.

Yep he's boarding.
Do the melbourne schools offer scholarships, or did his dad go the school or something?
Just wondering as I thought talented players would have their development taken care of playing in the QAFL, like Nick Reiwoldt and Dayne Beams did as teenagers.

Goodo, I like the kid, just wish he had more opportunity in his preferred role. I like his endeavour and toughness, his defense is good as is his run. He was pretty good in Iast years finals, was just hoping to see more of it.

You and Section 5 have put your case fwd thoroughly and respectfully, I appreciate and thank you for that. I do tend to agree with both of you in some respects, especially seeing how the market was with the illustrated trades. I hope it's at least an early 3rd round pick. And I hope for his sake that he can forge some sort of career somewhere else.

His parents still live up here in our zone, and he’s on a boarding scholarship at Melbourne Grammar.

Gold Coast also have a kid doing the same, but playing for Oakleigh.

Not much different to GWS zoned academy kids boarding at Victorian schools.

From what I have read, quite a few APS schools have offered scholarships to Queensland kids, to come and play footy.

How was cockie this week?

Cockie again looked good. Staying in the game more and covering more ground. He is very strong compared to many GWS top ups, so this may have flattered his performance. I havent formed an opinion on whether or not he has fully regained his pace. I would like to see him get a go as sub so the club has a better idea how he could go at AFL level.

Young key forward Tom Fullarton had a day out as Brisbane comfortably accounted for Greater Western Sydney on Saturday.

The 24-year-old collected 19 disposals, took nine marks and had nine scoring shots for five goals - backing up his four goals from last week - in the Lions' 83-point triumph.
Big man Darcy Fort responded to his omission from the top-tier side with a dominant showing in the ruck, finishing the day with 28 hit outs, nine clearances and a goal.

Midfielder Deven Robertson put his hand up for another chance at the top level to be one of the Lions' best with 29 disposals, nine tackles and one goal.

Rhys Mathieson (33 disposals, six marks, seven clearances) and forward Noah Answerth (27, six clearances, two goals) was also impressive in the big win.

The win sees Brisbane sitting atop the VFL ladder following its unbeaten 5-0 start to the season.
