Well, wasn't the summer of 2023 great? Getting to hear daily about whatever has gone wrong today via the media has been such fun that I've started to wonder if the sports journos forgot that other teams exist. Now it's February, we're already within 5 weeks of the footy season starting which mean it's time for the Best 22 threads to pop up and ask who our best players are. While I'd like to take this chance to talk up our chances of getting further than a straight-sets exit this year, I'm also tempering expectations and going with a 6th-8th place finish that might stop me from nitpicking every win we have. So who will make the team this time around? Who knows but I there'll probably be a fight over who's right.

There'll be 4 polls, 1 each for Mids, Defenders, Forwards and other, put up every Thursday until I run out of threads.

In Part 1, vote for up to 6 players in the poll to fill these positions.

Rivers and Windsor in the midfield mix would please me greatly
Windsor isn't ready. Maybe sometime later in the season. Doesn't look to have the tank to me, and his skills aren't quality enough to throw one of Lingers or Hunter unfortunately right now. But he's quick and has a frame built for AFL. So who knows. Hunter could be battling to be ready for Round 1. Could be a cheeky debut. I'd back him in to get a debut mid to late season as our wingers disappoint yet again.

Did you guys know that we beat the two grand finalists without Oliver and lost to them both with him? Not sure if it's been mentioned this offseason but just giving you guys some information that should help with your voting here. 🤗

So, you're suggesting Clayton Oliver isn't in our best 22?

Windsor will 100% play early in the season, and so will Howes.

Didn't know Howes was ready. Where do you reckon he'll play?

Personally I'd play him on the wing, but he's been training in the backline, often as the '3rd tall' with May and Lever. I don't think he'll quite pull a McVee type year, but has some weapons that could make him pretty handy.

Surely James Harmes gets more midfield time this year?

Not being a touch GLIB here, are you, A11?
No, I thought about voting for Verrall and Farris White. Glad to see there is someone out there on the same wave length. Likely my spirit animal Johnny Karate .

Troy Simmonds, too. And I liked Paul Johnson.
