I'll be tracking Jarrod Berry with interest in the upcoming weeks. It appears we've put a contract in front of him and I seem to notice an increase in the possession count over the last couple of weeks. May be we stung him with an average offer ? May be highlighting him getting not much ball as a justification? I don't know. But I wonder if Berry getting 29 last week and stepping up with 23 +10 marks +8 tackles the week before was all a coincidence.
My wife is quite good friends with his gf, and they seem pretty happy here. Wouldn't be surprised if he re-signed.

I was so miffed about Harnold. Dude was an awesome interceptor, hoped we would get him in as a backup for Harris or Payney (obviously ended up getting Doedee but then injury ofc). Play him, Sydney, you cowards.

I think he's had injury issues. Has been injured for most of this year with a back injury, not due back until ~round 15.

Only played 2 games of VFL last year R21 and 22. Had 26 & 19 disposals.
This year no VFL games at all so maybe he was injured early.
Just looked on the Swans injury list and he is now listed as 7-8 weeks with a back injury.

Remit going forward:

No more one paced players.

Place higher emphasis on footy IQ.

Must be good at tackling.

Must have high work ethic and desire to be the best.

I repeat, no more one paced and slow footballers.

Maybe I’ve eliminated half the draft already though.

Wonder if Brent Daniels from GWS would be interested in a move. He was sub against us this week, didn't play, didn't look very happy being relegated to bench. 25 years old and contracted till 2025. GWS have a long list of pacey smalls now with Darcy Jones, Harvey Thomas, Bedford for starters and Phoenix Gothard in pipeline. Brent might get phased out of that forward line by second half of this year.

Brent would add more pace, chase n tackle pressure back into our forward line compared to what we're having right now. We're still in the window with little tinkering needed to our list so it might be attractive for him.

Daniels had a knee issue coming in to the game, and was touch and go to play at all. Think that might be why he was the sub (altho I also think that logic is strange from the Giants).

Pretty sure he is still very much in their plans going forward.

could be contract related the improved form, but I think it might be that he had an interrupted preseason and took some time to build into the season. I hope he stays.

Tyson Stengle is an UFA this year and only 25 years of age, kicked 53 goals in the Cats 2022 flag season.

Charlie 30 in a few months and Linc 31 before the end of this year.

Daniels was sub because of injury or rather as you said had a knee issue which he only got up for and Kingsley said he didn’t feel the need to bring him on because things were going so well. But he’s not on the outer at all.

Hey dlanod is UFA Isaac Cumming worth having a look at as a winger for us?

Cumming is part of furniture for them. Doubt he leaves, he didn't leave when things were tough couple of years ago.

I am a little concerned about Clug's contract, we're going to be paying a lot for someone to be on the wing.

As soon as the Ashcroft boys are in, Clug is shifted out of the middle IMO. Devil's advocate is that is his best position and should have had a few AA's as a winger.

Maybe it'll help our team dynamics to get him back on the wing and have more capable inside midfielders helping Neale & Dunkley next year. It could be the restructure we need, it'll just be a costly one.

Happy to pay him top dollar as long as we put him in middle with Rayner and say "you boys need to win this footy, Neale will be watching from outside". Great time to test out these types of changes.

McCluggage’s Merrett-Murray Medal finishes since coming to Brisbane:

2017: Not Top 10.
2018: 7th
2019: 3rd
2020: 3rd
2021: 2nd
2022: 2nd
2023: 3rd

Three Alastair Lynch Trophies and two Nigel Lappin Trophies. Played inside from 2021 onwards and the only players to ever finish above him in from 2019-23 are Lyons, Zorko, Neale and Andrews.

He’s not being pushed to the wing, I thought that he’d play best there last year but I’ve change my own mind.

Great suggestion. High football IQ too.

Charlie isn’t your textbook small forward as he likes to get out the back and use his pace more than rely on front and centre crumbing craft. Daniels would bring that from what I’ve seen.

Like the idea of Daniels, would be a fantastic addition.

Also wonder if we can find a way to throw our hat in the ring for Moyle. Might need to trade Oscar?

Have to keep Clugga and Berry I think, so lets hunt their mate Drew as well.

How do we make it happen? Neale goes home to WA?.

Saturday night thought bubbles.........

Sean Darcy on our radar at all for an A Grade ruckman?
Was hearing on the grape vine BigO is wanting to come home to Melbourne at seasons end.

Odd phrasing from a Geelong supporter on a Lions forum.

A lot for someone who looks like he runs in mud. Fantastic player ball in hand but one of the worst in the comp for accountability in defence

It’s not good business to put a heap of $$$ into small forwards. Better off having a fleet of young fast guys who will pressure the opposition

We’re paying our key forwards a lot of money for little return.

If they can have the same impact Charlie had when he first came, I’m interested.

If this season is anything to go by then let’s say our window is shut for the next 3-4 years. Not that we’ll be hopeless, just not srs contenders anymore.

I would be cautious paying the world for McCluggage. Great player but he has severe limitations defensively and is very slow. The end usually comes quicker for the slower players. I would even say a million flat is overs but given his loyalty then I’d be happy to make him a million dollar player.

If other clubs want to go silly with 1.3 million dollar bids then we can match (as we probs have the space) and force a trade pending how low we finish this year.

Anyone with trade value in the next couple of years needs to be seriously considered for moving on for the right place. There is a fine line also, don’t want to move players that don’t ask for a move but we do probably have a few that aren’t happy with their current roles. There are some at every club.

We must get into the next few drafts before Tassie come in. Build a bigger undercurrent of younger talent whilst we still have a lot of older players that can shoulder some of the load for them. Then look to use some cap space in the Tassie years to get a big fish or two and go again for the next 7-8 years.

I watched the VFL yesterday and I wouldn’t say we are well stocked for young talent coming through.
