Call me deluded, but I just can’t see us finishing outside of the eight this year.

View attachment 1627293
It's when there's zero reasoning added (a la DKing) as to how a team that spent 15 consecutive weeks in the top 4 last year, barely missed out on the four in the end and beat Geelong, Melbourne, Brisbane in doing so, that gets especially egregious.

Wasnt Cox hurt as well, any news there?

Get a load of this Jenkins' three teams to drop out of the eight in 2023

On the Dockers, the former Crow is worried about the club in general following last year’s trade period.

“I’m not confident about all three, I was only confident about one – Fremantle,” Jenkins told SEN Breakfast.

“I read a lot into the Griffin Logue situation in that agent’s documentary. How can a player of his calibre not feel like he has an ongoing position in their best 22? There’s something beneath the surface there.

“He is, in my humble opinion, their best defender. If you said ‘we need a versatile, athletic, tall defender to play on the great key forwards, he would be my first pick (at Freo).

Alex Pearce is injured a lot. Your best ability is your availability. Brennan Cox is a handy player, but he’s not as good as Logue.

Ah, yes... That player agent documentary that was extremely balanced and definitely looked at the situation from Freo's perspective, no chance whatsoever that it might be biased towards the player agent.

If anybody in the media is taking any real stock of what happened in that dumpster-fire of a doco then I'm seriously worried.

Also lmao at him talking abt Pearce availability when Logue has probably missed as much football as him in the past 3 years

Cox is not as good as Logue?

This Brennan Cox?

Cox made a case for All-Australian selection during the 2022 AFL season with his ability to shutdown some of the best forwards in the competition, he was named in the initial 44 man squad but didn't make the final 22.[6] Cox played 21 of 22 games a career best and also averaged 16.2 disposals a game which is elite for a key defender.

This is Logue’s career highlight:

Logue had a consistent year in 2021, playing a 16 out of a possible 22 games; his most games in any season.

He was… there a bit.

That is some amusing reasoning.

If we do happen to miss then I think it would come down to one of his ruminations which was actually aimed at Sydney.
“What are young players prone to doing? Be inconsistent, fluctuate, have dips in performance, they sometimes think they’re just going to get back there.”

Don't worry it gets better though, guess who he picked to take our spot.

NB: I actually don't mind Jenkins even if I often don't agree with him, he's there for some lighthearted debate. I mean he got me to click on TWO of his articles.

See, I understand if people have us missing the 8, but you can at least put something that makes sense behind the reasoning. Hell, I’d settle for the ‘feel’ of it as an explanation. This is just nauseatingly stupid.

Sooo… we’ll drop out of the top four because we traded our ‘best’ defender (who also played forward most of the year) who is apparently better than AA squad Cox. 😑

I actually think we’re a reasonable chance of missing finals and a lot arguments can be made for it. But that. That is not it.

(I wish we’d kept logue, but not at the price he went for, I mean, dear god!)

And still not 100% this pre season with OP.

Even with best available, Logue wasn't up to it v Cox and Pearce. Always disliked Jenkins. Loved a handball over the top run into goal square goal that dud

The more I read this thread the more I think there should be 2 media threads. This one where stuff from the largely disappointing but still worth covering guys and girls doing the job and then the "Media Mental Fringe Dwellers Thread".

In the latter thread goes the Hackdorn, Dumich, Corney, Woodcock, Lessor Quarterbrain (no relation) etc who some of us just don't want to hear from or about. I get the car crash element many get from catching up on these clowns but it feels like they deserve their own thread where they can be avoided or followed by those that choose it.

Tough to do I know but one of my main regrets is clicking on to the media thread hoping for a Dale Drop and instead getting one of those mouth breathers instead.

No criticism at all of those who do whack up a Cornes or Sumich piece, it's what this thread is for, keep at it. Just my own grumpy view of the media world.

Maybe a Media Thread and also then a Kim Hagdorn Pseudo Media Thread? ;)

Josh Jenkins has just roared in to that 2nd one.

Does Jenkins even know the Freo backline? We have cover even if one of Cox or Pearce go down. Ryan was AA when neither of them played a few years back. We don't need Logue - he was pretty much in the forward line last year anyway.

I'll add fuel to the fire and bookmark this page. A grand total of three of the 12 'experts' writing in the Age have picked us to make finals, the same number as gold coast. Five of them have highlighted us as their prediction for the team most on the slide.

I'm going to have a lot of fun with this come September if things work out as we expect

I get where these clowns are coming from, if you look at the fixture and pencil in freo losses to Catsx2, Lionsx2, Swansx2 and Bulldogsx2 then Deesx1 and Piesx1 it makes it very hard for us to make the eight, if your vic centric and believe your own hype you are probably predicting we lose to Tigre’s and Blues as well.
It is a tough fixture, but if we split the double up teams and beat one of dees or pies and both Blues and Tigers we are suddenly top 4 bound.
The trick will be not dropping any games against the lesser teams.
For the record I think we go 2-0 against the dogs. 1-1 against Cats, Lions and Swans and hope like hell we beat both Melbourne and Collingwood at the G, if we can’t beat the Blues and Tigers on our home deck, we don’t deserve top 8, let alone top 4

This is where you turn to the professionals my friends. The bookies regard us as odds-on to play finals (about 8/11) and a very decent chance (a bit better than 3/1) to be top four. I've taken a slice of the latter.

Logue probably is a better pure stopper than Cox

Everything else though

Why do you see us missing finals and how is this not a failure?

I think the part that interests me is that I'm sure none of those pundits rate either Lobb or Logue that highly but apparently they'll make about 4-6 wins difference this year.

Honestly reckon they just don't want to rate us (which is fine, there I teams I don't want to rate either) and Lobb and Logue leaving is the low hanging fruit they jump on.
