One of my favourites.. limited skills but what a teammate he would have been. Steven Baker with Garry & Tim SEN Breakfast 21/3:

Such a fantastic interview hahaha, Bakes is a ripper 😂

SAINTS’ BOLD TRIFECTA

St Kilda president Andrew Bassat’s bold decision to sign and then sack Brett Ratten was the right one. The club’s bold decision to pay the AFL $100,000 to take Spud’s Game from Marvel Stadium to the MCG was the right one. Coach Ross Lyon’s bold decision to axe Brad Crouch – he had not played state-league football since a run in the SANFL on return from a hamstring tear in 2017 – was the right one. Marcus Windhager attended four centre bounces in round 1 and, with Crouch gone, attended 25 in round 2. Wearing Spud’s old No.2 jumper, Windhager went head-to-head with Tom Mitchell and Nick Daicos and went whoosh past Crouch with 24 disposals, 16 contested possessions, seven clearances, seven score involvements and six tackles. Former Saints football boss Geoff Walsh said in 2022: “This might sound abrasive and the Saints fans might get upset but … I think the competition would say there’s been a degree of irrelevance”. In just 18 months the Saints have redeemed their relevance, and a home win in front of 70,000 against the reigning premier proves that.

STAT OF THE SEASON

Did some digging on Jack Higgins after he kicked 4.1 against Collingwood. Higgins’ first three goals were all unmissable and then – with his confidence sky high – he slotted the sealer from beyond the boundary. Admittedly it wasn’t a set-shot from 45m that required deep breaths to not overthink the situation, but if this stat does not prove that football is largely played between the ears then nothing will. Higgins has kicked 126.93 in his career. When his first score in a match has been a goal, he has kicked 92.27 (77.3 per cent). When his first score has been a behind, he has kicked 34.66 (34 per cent). Last year’s AFL average was 48.1 per cent and nobody kicked it straighter than Nick Larkey (77 per cent). What a wild swing for the loveable little Saint.

Thanks for the article BrutThough

That’s a great stat, I thought that’s how it worked for him but didn’t realise it was such a stark difference!

No joke, playing for St Kilda doesn’t exclude someone from being a moron.

Of course it doesn't. That wasn't the point. Point was you felt the need to jump in and call him a "conspiracy theory moron" when in fact a lot of evidence points to the fact he's a well-rounded, well-liked, successful individual. Any chance the real lesson here is the bloke on the internet with the "ITK" avatar getting randomly triggered by an excellent interview is the real moron? Hmmmm.

An insightful interview with Plympton and the guys at Unpluggered from 2022:

Good interview that. Plympton was in charge when we made a couple of ordinary decisions, sacking Stan and moving from Waverley, but he was a dedicated Saints man and both were difficult situations. He helped pave the way for the evolution of the club and for that I thank him and pay respect to those close to him at this sad time.

Some actually think that Toce had a lone hand in picking those players?
Not just about Toce though, article mentions Gallagher, Roughead, Wayne Hughes and apparently more ("The Saints also parted ways with a group of part-time recruiters, including Carlton’s ex-national recruiting manager Wayne Hughes, over email in the period after Toce’s exit, the same sources said.")

So the question is who's left out of the team that brought in Nas, Pou, etc.

Amazing isn't it..!!!!!

Well.......actually it's not.

Just had a look at the article on the AFL site titled "8 things we learnt"

I blinked for a nano second and our coverage was finished.

On our Thursday night game.......the only mention the Saints received was:

"fumbles against St.Kilda"

That was it....our grand mention !!!!!!!!!

Incredible.

Cool they did a decent job .... now we have 2 guys that built the current Sydney and Carlton teams .... time to look forward

As stavro on the other thread pointed out Naz and Pou were best of the rest picks (although Healy wanted us to select Sinn :D:D) Windy and Owens were locals NGA's so nothing to do with Toce.

He should be credited with going into isolation for two weeks in Qld, then flying to SA for a couple of months and watching SANFL in 2020. This would have found us Sharman and Wilkie, I am sure, maybe some info on Naz and Pou but both underagers so not sure.

SoS got us Hammer and Stocker and StC mentioned that he was at a WAFL game where Collard was playing and saw SoS and Gubby there, So Collard was probably them.

Its a combined thing. Toce seems like a good operator, maybe he had a falling out with SoS and Gubby, maybe Ross wanted his own people. One thing for sure, if you are any good Ross will keep you as per Boris Enright, so he just doesn't get rid of someone just to get his own person in.
