I would be shocked if Melbourne entertained 5 and 9 for 2. In such a deep draft, they are perfectly positioned to add two stars. There isn’t someone worth trading those 2x picks for to get 2.

Only issue with a 5/9 for 2 deal is Melbourne are probably after key position players as well

They already have JVR and Jefferson so not necessarily although May is getting on.

That's what I reckon will happen

Melbourne, if they pull that deal off can only do two things, after the top 4 players are gone in the open draft, select the two players that are left on their talent whiteboard or they are making a big play for the "gun mid" of their choice, now they could get a gun mid and another top rated player BUT what if their talent order was the first three players that are taken?


All of a sudden maybe its just not us that people are asking the question, who do Melbourne want really badly in this draft?
Probably another question worth asking if they get that second first round pick is lets just say for a bit of fun they secretly want Finn O'Sullivan and knew that Richmond weren't selecting him at pick #1, at what lengths would they go to get him?

Interesting that the melbourne deal for 9 was pretty similar to their attempted deal for 13.

Even in the unlikely event that we got Houston we are still likely to finish bottom 2/3.

It seems like people have literally forgotten (or rather they have wished away) just how far behind we are - not only teams in the 8 but those ranked 9 to 15.

The idea that we would even contemplate trading our 2025 first pick with the view that we will somehow majestically rise up the ladder is foolhardy and a horror show waiting to happen (let alone the ridicule that will come down on the club for being so far wrong on where we thought we were at).

We may win more games next year - we could win 6-8 games in a very optimistic scenario - but that still means bottom 2 or 3. In an extremely even competition (outside of the bottom 3) this is the scenario we are faced with. People need to get their heads around this - we are not just marginally behind these other teams where 1 or 2 players will push us up the ladder.

Whoever is making decisions around F1 picks needs to be doing so with the view that we receive value consistent with a pick 2 or 3 in 2025 - anything else is negligence and will just be another decision in an ever growing list of poor list management decisions if this is not the case.

So how do we realistically get Houston done?

Not sure the Dees trade 5 & 9 for 2 + F2. They obviously have key targets and gaps to fill in an even draft.

We still have F1, but that relies on the Pies not getting 13 and sweetening the pot. Not to mention the possibility of Dan staying (which I really doubt at this stage).

Get him to choose us over Collingwood/Carlton. Which he won’t.

Not sure what is so hard to comprehend about this whole thing. The trade is driven by where the player wants to go, not by who has the best offer. We could have the first ten picks of the draft and it wouldn’t make a difference because Houston prefers Collingwood/Carlton.

It’s nothing more than hoping for a Bradbury.

We're not just adding a couple of players. A bunch of our best players are young. They have a good chance to improve. We'd also have another year in the system.

We should have won 6 games after the bye last season, if we had any on field leadership.

With internal development we could jump right up the ladder.

And, from my understanding, next year's draft is so compromised that pick 4 or 5 could be around the 10th best prospect.

People also seem to have forgotten that next year we will have two years of futures to trade back into R1.

The over rating of draft picks that may or may not work out across the course of the next 2-3 years in comparison to a guy who was literally named in the best 22 players in the country this year does my head in.

This ‘jam tomorrow’ thinking needs to end.

I doubt they would be interested, this seems to be a quite strategic plan to get the players or player that they are zeroing in on, you know of all the clubs in that top 12 and having watched time and time again the two teams that I would have thought be very interested in Alix Tauru would be Carlton and Melbourne, May is getting on a bit and they can still get their key forward a touch later, with Carlton they too need one more top mid as well as their biggest deficiency which has been so glaring, a very good talented tall backman who can also swing forward if need be.

Not to long ago hardly anyone had two picks in this draft now it looks like half the bloody comp will and we are still some five weeks from draft night, its only getting warmed up!

As picks and players get flicked around, it's understandable to panic a bit and assume that if we're not involved it must mean we are 'losing'. If at the end of the flicking, we're only where we are now, then I say that's okay, meaning Darling, Parker (for say an F3), 2, 25 and 44, and the rest of our 2025 picks intact

If there's any variation to that profile, I'd be hoping it's for overs in some form

Eventually they’re going to have to come to terms with not having an avenue into this draft and either trade for the future or take a guy into the season that doesn’t want to be there.

Let’s be realistic. Another bottom 3 finish next year start watching the exodus of high picks like George and Zane.

Supporters have had enough. We have a to get better quick.
