You/we are in for a lot of disappointment if we believe Darling is a 'genuine' key forward. He is no where near being able to play that role and cannot expected to do so in 2025.

However we certainly need a 'genuine' 2nd key forward - Teakle was by far our best option as evidenced in that run of games where we looked like causing an upset - but Darling isn't it.

Teakle, Comben, W Dawson, CCJ and then Darling would be the order of their ability to play a genuine 2nd key forward in 2025.

Depth is very poor in that area and this was the year we needed to fix it - but alas we haven't been able to.

Hate to break it to you, but we didn’t recruit Darling to be a 5th in line key forward.

Darling can play as a genuine KPF for the next 2 years. He is a big upgrade on pink and will help with structure and teashing the young players coming through.

Chom will settle back for another year.

The question I'm still asking is where are we playing Will Dawson. I thought he looked great as a back but we started to play him forward. I feel that will impact who we draft. Tauru is probably similar in he could be drafted as KPF or KPB. I prefer KPF for him.

I'd like the club to develop our youngsters where they played their junior football and excelled. This 'cross training' bullshit is for the tip.

I don't mind a season at the other end for development purposes, but Will Dawson fwd instead of just drafting a natural KPF is silly.

Every year a team gets the "wont win a game" every year they win one. Will happen again. Your midfield still has potentially Nank, Taranto and Hooper who can win games for you. A team will lose every game in a season again at some stage though. I dont think it will be Tigers though

Alex Condon? That was mentioned ages ago. Condon nominated Pies as his preferred destination if his 3rd year of hoops doesn't work out or whatever the rules are.

Sounds like we'll only take talls if we split pick 2, but we did have 25 and 44 at the time, so who knows now.

The only thing ill say for the club with Will Dawson forward and likely Tauru is that they are both young enough and early in their development that they its hard to know where they are best.

I agree getting players in their role though

Another loophole in the system getting exploited.

Condon was nailed on as a top 10 pick in Sheez’s draft 18 months out, goes to college for a couple of years in full knowledge he can essentially walk into the AFL system as a free agent in 2 seasons. It wasn’t even masked, was openly discussed as what he was doing (When he’s a ruckman anyway and would have barely played anyway…) Why wouldn’t you sit it out? Small price to pay for essentially cherry picking your career path and it won’t be the last time this happens

He absolutely should have to go into the draft pool, this is not what Cat B rookies were designed for.

He’d probably get picked in the first 20 picks in a months time, even sitting out 2 years.

The rule should be, If you played in any of the national carnivals in u16’s up, you should have to enter the draft if under 25 years of age moving back to the sport.

This completely offsets Collingwood burning all their picks. Again (after the Daicos FS) and they get McGuane next season as a FS. And will be targeting LDU with nothing to trade with if we match.

Clearly absolutely calculated by Collingwood.

Oh really. I didn't realise he was a projected top 10 pick in AFL in that year.
Based on his freshman season at Florida in college b'ball, it doesn't look like he'll make the NBA, but still early in his career.
I'll keep a watch how he goes in his sophomore season.

I reckon Armstrong & Tauru would be gone in this scenario, meaning we miss both.

7. Richmond- Tauru/Armstrong (maybe Langford?)

So many good scenario's, IF Richmond in this scenario don't trade for our pick #2 and partner up with Sam Lalor and the draft starts off like this I'm quite certain the Demons take their midfielder {Harvey Langford} and even more certain the Tigers take their other midfielder in {Josh Smillie} to pair up with Sam, it has to happen this way , let me explain why.

With the draft hand that Richmond have and the hard work the late Chris Toce has put into place for the tigers they either trade with us and get the two star mids of their choice OR they go along this route and as you can see, they get what's left, which to me doesn't make sense, what if their next highest mid {Smillie} was ranked at pick 9, now some will say well you take the next best player, say on their whiteboard they have Alix or Harry, or they take one of them, that means with the quality picks they have in one of the strongest drafts seen for a long time they either have one star mid that they targeted and another midfielder {Smillie} who wasn't in the top 8 on their whiteboard but they picked him because he was the last of the top 6 midfielders OR they pick Alix or Harry and get the other mids later, meaning they have one star midfielder in the whole draft that they loved and got him while quite possibly Josh was ranked 9 or 10 on their list.

We will never know because the spin will be they were always targeting Josh and the famous line will be repeated yet again "we got our guys"!
Supporters of all clubs as well as some tiger fans can spin it any way they want and I have no doubt the line "its an even draft, we don't need to do anything stupid" will pop up lots more times but as you can clearly see, there are two roads here to take, if history has taught us anything, its that {remember when we took the top 2 boys on our whiteboard in Harry and George in the 2022 national draft?} when you've got the picks, you get the best talent that's on your board!

You don't play funny buggers or "chance it", it would be a hell of a risk if they go this way, we are going to know in just under four weeks time, in the meantime I'm 100% positive that Brady & Will as well as Alastair will be doing or have done countless scenario's with certain clubs picks wise and the biggest point here is we want the top 2 players on our whiteboard, not third /fourth or fifth if we can help it, whoever these two boys are I believe we will get them.

That’s my point. Rawlings has never made a call on his own. Targeting of players is a collaborative exercise. It’s not like he wakes up in the morning and says I’m gonna go get player x, y and z and I don’t give a shit if anyone else in the club
supports me.

Edit. I just think he receives unfair criticism. And that criticism should be levelled at the whole club for those decisions that have not panned out.
