That makes zero sense from Melbourne's point of view.

They could have offered us 5 + F1 for 2, and we wouldn't have been able to say yes fast enough. Instead they used up extra picks and had to deal with Essendon.

It would be like instead of taking the direct flight to Perth, paying extra to go via Sydney airport.

Except that we want more picks in this draft so it makes perfect sense if Melbourne trade 5 and 9 for 2.

The only reason Melbourne will trade with us is because they want a player at 2 that won’t be there at 5.
