God dammit. I really am not excited about this one.

You heard anything on Wade Derksen from GWS giantroo. Heard that we have enquired about him and Jacob Wehr from the Giants.

Derksen hasn't played yet, but his VFL form in defence has been excellent. Assuming Wehr would be for wing depth.

Don't think there is much chance of either, but curious to see if anyone else has heard anything.
His name popped up two weeks ago but the link was to the Dees.

I assumed if Derksen was to go anywhere it would be back to WA where he was originally from. Surprised a few Melbourne based clubs have been linked.

He'd suit us as he is 197cm and can play forward and back. Could rotate with Chom depending on matchups. Avg'd 7 marks per game in defence this year, but kicked 35 from 18 games last years in the VFL.

Hard done by to not get a game already I think, but they’ve invested much more in Cadman, Alleer and Gruzewski who have all had good form and Riccardi can’t get a game so it’s pretty much been impossible for him. Has a bit to like, just feel as though it’s hard to see us picking up speculative types due to list spot availability.

Unfortunately I haven't had any hallucinogens since about 6 hours before round 1 2019.

What I've seen since then is seven changes of coach, including four over the last two seasons. Dunno how Rawlings did that but I agree he must be punished for it.
Yes. Every excuse under the sun. Change of coaches. Developmental. This other guy wanted this player at our club. But not Rawling. He didn't want any of the players recruited to our club from other teams over the last 5 years. Cat Stephens? Nothing to do with him. Oh and those long contracts, well that was some other bozo at the club that made that happen. He is running at 100%. He has not made a mistake. Faultless. Poor Dude. Pity everybody else around him that has moved on has been incompetent. Gee he has had some bad luck. Because it aint his fault in the slightest that our club has finished bottom 2 for 5 years on end. Not of his doing. Did not play a part at all. :stern look

C'mon snruibs. My point all along has been that an option was that we could've held JHF. It was Chubss that brought alternate realities into play. I suggest you go back and read this exchange from the start. :stern look

Ii was certainly an option, but if you have someone at the club, who does not want to be at the club and who is still capable of doing a sulk at any given time, far better to have done the deal when we did.

No doubt he will win a Brownlow or two and no doubt play in multiple flags at port too, but that's life. (Providing those hamstrings hold together.)

Lord George Wardlaw looks such a "shabby" alternative outcome doesn't he? Oh well.

Does that mean he'll be playing for the Dockers next year? As a former top ten pick, surely he's worth a first rounder?
A for effort,,,,,,but this is how its done....He's a Rising Star winner, in the elite company of other stars of the game, Nick Daicos, Harry Sheezel, Sam Walsh, etc and has performed on the big stage kicking multiple goals in a grand final....... 2 first rounders with at least one a top 10 pick I'd have thought!

Not sure he is that speculative considering his form in the VFL over the last 2 years. Wouldn't surprise me if he plays plenty of AFL next year if he does move clubs. His form as both a forward or defender would stack up better than just about any of our depth players.

On a side note I'm pretty envious of GWS KP stocks.

Best 22 Key Defenders: Taylor, Buckley, Himmelberg
Depth: Aleer, Derksen,

Best 22 Key Forwards: Hogan, Cadman
Depth: Riccardi, Brown, Gruzewski

All of their depth KP's would've played plenty of games for us this year.

personally iam not sure Darling is a great addition but i think you need to consider it in isolation, it shouldnt be an either/or consideration. any potentual targets should be considered regardless of darling,

If the reported salary is correct im not against getting Darling for a couple of years. Yep thats how much that sticking point has turned me around. The draft capital used will be nothing.

What was reported is we pay his 800k year 1 and then only 100k year 2. 450k a season is reasonable and speaks volumes of the guy backing himself in to play an extra year for only 100k in the hope of getting a trigger for another.

I agree with this,
Darling should be viewed as a member of the squad of 40, not someone who’s going be to best 22 on gf day in a few years.

He’s cooked but the experience on offer would be immeasurable compared to someone picked at number 69 in the draft this year.

list management wise i guess he replaces Sheils or Hughs spot, so even after retiree/mentor spots we have one available to draft in younger talent,

Its the spots such as CCJ or Biggies that are where we are effectively wasting the concession we got as part of the "assistance".

the pay imo is moot because we should be so far from maxing out the cap even front-loading other deals it surely couldn't be an issue?

That's it in a nutshell. So many clubs move on/retire players who are often good enough to still contribute at senior level, just to pick up someone at that sort of late pick, who more often than not doesn't make it and then gets delisted after a couple of years. Obviously Darling is not exactly in that boat with us but it is an equivalent type of situation.

Wonder how Powell feels about this. Didn't Darling put him in a bear hug during one of our games. Made Tommy look like his son.
