You should have a look at that boy he was talking about I think I am the initial poster you are referring too and as I explained to you I left out the word not as in no use to us this off season.

I will say 1 thing if we are lucky enough to draft that boy then I will be amazed because he is tracking as a high 1st rounder or even top ten,I have looked at this boy and he kicked 5 against boys then played seniors and kicked 6 against men and he was only 16 himself.

Just from watching him I agree with everything Pommyinoz says about him but unless we can trade up in a big way we are no chance of getting him and you can take that to the bank.

I must say apart from being a Carlton fan I am quite in favour of Pommyinoz, maybe it may pay you to actually listen to what he has to say because he is often on the money Carlton fan or not.
He yells too much for me & carries on a bit, so no thanks 😉

I wasn't saying anything negative about this Jasper kid. He's just turned 17. My comments were purely in relation to a poster suggesting he was being touted as a replacement for McStay, which is obviously ludicrous.

I'm sure there are quite a few talented 16-17 year old forwards around the country the club is keeping their eye on for the future. You'd hope so anyway.

Are we allergic to Key forwards? McStay a key forward goes down with an acl so we invite another midfielder to train with the other mids, defenders and Ruckman. Come on this is beyond a joke.
Maybe if they can find one, they'll invite him down post Xmas to trial.

Looks like begg up forward in the first video. Has he trained there much or look ok??

Yeah he’s been playing that forward ruck role. Taking more marks and looks stronger.

He is a funny fellow, Derek, isn’t he…

GW: “any forwards you like in this draft Derek?”

Derek: “No”

GW: “any developing talls worth a late pick…?”

Derek: “No”

GW: “Rookies..?”

Derek: “No”

GW: “a mature aged state league forward now we’ve lost Dan…?”

Derek: “No”

GW: “how about some tradeable talls on your radar for next year…?

Derek: “I like Smith and Holmes… both great runners”

😉

Reckon we will then decide between the three mids. Prob won’t take more than 1

Will be interesting who survives the post Xmas cut.

TBH I haven’t been following this very closely - as I’m still in the La La Land of post-flag euphoria - but do we have to cut some of these SSP guys before Xmas? Seems brutally short. To only have a few weeks of training in which to impress.

Unless you want to invite others post christmas, no, you can have this group up until the deadline if you wish.

As I explained to you in an earlier post I knew I was poster you were referring too and also as explained earlier I should have checked and edited my post and added the word "not" but that was on me not Pommyinoz.

So it was my mistake not anyone else,s, as for there are a few talented 16 or 17yr old forwards around I am sure there are but I feel the same as Pommyinoz that Jasper will be a special one.

I like you would like to feel that the club,s talent spotter,s would be actively watching for any talented youngster where ever they may be.

Have a nice day.

Absolutely no need to make any final decisions now until the end of the 2nd signing period.
On any of them.
Would be negligent if we did.

I'd almost treat it like MLB spring training.
Test the ones we have now....cut 2-4 at Xmas.
Bring in others to have a look in Jan.

Keep them trialing and hungry until the deadline.

Then make the final call.
No reason some of the ones that were cut can't be chosen anyway (e.g. markov).

To me, the best thing we can do is keep bringing in talent if we identify early that some are just not up to it.
It absolutely makes a mockery of the SSP intentions (and ends the "rookie draft as being remotely useful btw).....but we seem to be leading the charge a lot lately in the way we do things.

This would be another evolution of being a more professional organization.

I'd think we'll pick one of the mids and let the others go, then add some more talls to trial for the SSP.
There's plenty of time to decide.

Mate, I'm getting really bored with this now.

As far as I'm aware, it wasn't even you that linked this kid as a replacement for McStay..it was in post #851

And tbh, I really don't care about this Pommy bloke's opinions.

Move on ✌️

Hine definitely is.

Doesn't rate them at draft time anyway.

He very clearly says "looking ahead to 2024", so I assume he's just putting him up as a player to watch for next year that would be the type Collingwood could be interested in.

He said on Radars and this time next year Collingwood are going to need to get creative due to (lack of) picks.

Clearly talking about a future KPF prospect option an area most feel is neglected every draft for over a decade.

I think we'll also take Eyre, just going on his size, athleticism and upside. Whilst Teakle may also be a strong chance - IF he impresses, as it gives us more flexibility / backup in allowing the trio of Cameron, Cox and Frampton to be more PT / FT key forward options. Seems they feel this is a better plan vs integrating a temp newbie forward option from state leagues..

I get the feeling that we’ll bring in the forwards soon. We can trial two more under the rules.

I’m glad we didn’t commit to Sofrinidis at the draft because our situation has changed.

Maximum of 6 I believe.

We have four list spots now open, so it’s increased to eight. It could blow out to ten if we have another injury or forced retirement.
Tops out at 6 no matter how many list spots you have, unless rules have changed.

You are very correct.

“Only two players can audition during the pre-season per list spot available, with a maximum of six players able to trial at the same club at one time.”

Post-Christmas we may send a few on their merry way as we firm our selections. We may not also. A CHF trialled would be really good.

The problem is that we're working within a very restrictive framework and it seems a rather short time to assess a player when the usual thing is to draft them and wait around for 2 years for something to happen. Hopefully, the AFL - and probably the Players association - will scale back the restrictions on any player who has been through a draft process.

Personally, I'm really supportive of anything that gets more opportunities for players over 20 to demonstrate that they should be on a list. If Wright is going to place more emphasis on players who want to be a part of a team ahead of kids with scatterbrains like ginnivan, then he's got my vote...

I’m not Ginnivan’s biggest fan, but given he scored 40 goals in his second year contributing greatly to a top 4 team and now a premiership player not sure his selection deserves a whack.

Nah, he is right
While you can have 2 per list spot, you can only have a max of 6 trialling at one time.

There's really something in finding players who have had to work so hard to get there. It's rough but they've got drive. If they wanted to give up, they would have.
