I'm absolutely loving the combination of De Goey and Nick Daicos. A real-life ying and yang, opposite in every way (appearance, 'professionalism', playing style etc) but equally deadly and they seem totally in sync finding each other on the field where no one else would. I mean who can forget that handball and goal in grand final. The AFL's best onfield duo.

When Jordy turns up for training in a dressing gown.
Don’t laugh.
The players used to wear YAKKA dressing gowns between quarters to stay warm.

Gives me strong Swan and Pendles vibes of the early 2010's!

Be honest, Fat Spider. Is that a selfie?

I agree with most of the article, as expected plenty of posters here act like they've been personally attacked? Perhaps calm down a little... Head trauma is serious business and the AFL is not doing enough imo to prevent this.
I agree with the themes raised in the article (although what would i know, i'm no medical practitioner or expert in the field), however ..

As expected Robbo acts like the ignorant twat that he is, making definitive statements and personally attacking one particular player.

Perhaps grow some journalistic integrity ...

Head trauma is a serious business and the AFL is acting in line with the emerging research and science, employing concussion experts / consultants to bring their 'expertise' to bear.

"This includes two key executive roles (Head of Concussion Innovation and Research and Head of Concussion and Healthcare Governance) dedicated to lead the AFL's development, research, education, innovation and governance of the game’s ongoing concussion strategy".

Oh wait, Robbo is 'astonished' and unilaterally should end one particular player's career / livelihood, usurp this player's ability to make an informed decision and, in spite of the 'experts', we should defer to a borderline alcoholic's whim to opine on such a matter ..got it!

GUIDELINES FOR THE MANAGEMENT OF SPORT-RELATED CONCUSSION - AFL & AFLW

MANAGEMENT OF DIFFICULT OR COMPLICATED CASES
• Difficult or complicated cases or decisions regarding retirement due to concussion should be managed in a multi-disciplinary manner.
• The AFL has established a network of clinicians with experience and expertise in the management of SRC (for details please contact the AFL Chief Medical officer).
• It is strongly recommended that the club doctor involve an independent clinician with expertise in concussion management, to assist in management decisions, including the return to play decision, in any case: a) where symptoms or clinical signs persist beyond 10-14 days b) With multiple concussions, especially if they occur in a single season, or if there is a concern about a lowered threshold to repeat injury.
• Formal neuropsychological testing is strongly recommended for players with recurrent concussions and in cases where there may be uncertainty about a player’s clinical or cognitive recovery.
• MRI is also strongly recommended as part of the assessment in difficult or complicated cases. See above for sequence recommendations for structural imaging.
• Advanced imaging and investigation techniques in approved research projects should be considered in difficult or complicated cases.
• The AFL has also established Concussion Panels to provide a mechanism for a timely and efficient expert multidisciplinary assessment of complex cases of concussion.
• Indications for an independent assessment (including Concussion Panels) include:
o Decisions regarding retirement;
o More than 2 concussions in any one season (including pre-season training),
o Any case where symptoms persist beyond 4 weeks;
o Any case where there is concern regarding increasing or recurrent symptoms with less trauma.
• Referral to the Concussion Panels can be made by contacting the AFL Chief Medical Officer.

One of the main problems with modern debates is people look at who says it, not what they say.

Which parts of the article are wrong?
He was right when he wrote this bit

"It’s hard to argue against experts"

That he then chose to, well, that's pretty wrong.

The only thing experts are in agreement over is a lot of hits to the brain is very bad for your long term health.

"How many concussions are too many?

Experts say there’s no “magic number.” Mark Halstead, the director of the Sports Concussion Program at Washington University in St. Louis, said you could put 10 concussion experts in a room and get 10 different answers to the question. For him, it depends on the patient, the severity of symptoms and their medical history."

So you can actually argue against experts, especially when other experts disagree with them.

Do you seriously believe Murphy will be fine if he keeps getting smashed in the head multiple times per season ?

I put my faith in the medical experts who tested him and passed him fit to play. You are carrying on like a child about this.

The issue with people (loosely speaking) like slobbo is that he fails to provide any great depth or balance to his argument. It’s just him on a soap box barking his opinion to the world

That all the Jurno's seem to do now

There are no repoters anymore. No one provides a balanced, analytica repor of events. There's no incentive for that. Everything is now essentially 'clickbait' for revenue. What's worse, is that there is no recourse if any journo is proven to be factually wrong!
As Denzel Washington said (paraphrase), "you just want to be first. you don't even care if you're right! what a responsibility you (journos) have".

People keep tuning into them. Keep talking about their articles. Dominated this thread today. Sponsors like readers, viewers and listeners - the more the better.

Until the journalists with integrity are offered larger contracts than Bolt, the ‘clickbait’ articles are clearly being read/reposted/discussed more.

Robinson has had a few near death experiences over the last year or so. He underwent open heart surgery in late 2021.

In his post-operation dribble piece for the heraldsun, he talked about smoking, drinking, diabetes, heart conditions and a litany of health related issues that he had chosen to ignore or overlook.

It makes you wonder why his newspaper and employer didnt demand an annual health check in order to continue his employment. He had smoked for 35 years. His drinking habits were well-known. It should have been obvious to his employer that he had candidate for open heart surgery written on his forehead and yet they didnt do a thing. Unforgiveable.

I can't even begin to explain how seriously flawed your argument and reasoning is in this post.

No Kappa, you (as in you and the rest of the clueless public out there including myself) cannot argue against the experts because we don't have the expertise to do so. The experts may argue amongst themselves but that's a different argument - that comes from knowledge.

You opinion on the issue is worthless, as is Robbo's, as is mine, as is everyone's on this site. None of us have the expertise.

You can hope that they get it right, you can have concerns and doubts, you can be optimistic if you want to be, but it doesn't amount to a hill of beans.

They appoint expert panels with experts for a reason. That's about the best that can be done.

Your last sentence would apply to very single player in the league.

The real reporters are the grass root kind who for instance provide track reports on this and other forums. Just informing folk with no agenda. These are the articles worth reading IMV

Every shot in golf makes somebody happy.

The micro concussions was CTE specific, which seems to be the glamour child of head trauma. This study was more general and looking at brain function with potential links to dementia in later life. The study actually suggests that just one serious concussion is linked to reduced cognitive ability in later life and more than that increases the risk. 3 milder ones. The assumption is that it then leads to higher rates of dementia.
Who cares. He has the green light to keep going. Just play him.
