You would have been happy with almost all permutations of the SSP players, but Sullivan, Bytel and Eyre all seemed to be track-watcher faves and the former looked OK yesterday.

Congrats to them and commiserations but best of luck to those who didn't make the cut.

What the f**** is up with journos finding/posting out info before the clubs posted? Every club has it moles obviously but this is pretty poor and takes the gloss off for the boys who get picked up. Just my opinion. Also why has the whole video of the match sim disappeared off youtube? Had it lined up to watch when I got home today and found a "this video is unavailable" with a 8min highlights clip there instead :greenalien:

My R0 side based on last night. It modifies the Grand Final team. Murphy might replace Frampton but I'd set the sub as a defender if he is playing. Before McCreery plays midfield, he needs to accumulate more. Some positioning changes might take place, maybe Markov is sub to allow Sullivan to start given how dominant he is. Dean could compete for Frampton's spot. Obviously it makes the assumption Sullivan is signed.

B: Frampton, Moore, Howe

HB: Maynard, Quaynor, Markov

C: Sidebottom, Pendlebury, Mitchell

HF: Hill, Mihocek, Elliott

F: McCreery, De Goey, Daicos

R: Cox, Daicos, Crisp

INT: Lipinski, Cameron, Schultz, Macrae

Sub: Sullivan

IN: Schultz (club debut), Sullivan (debut), Macrae, Lipinski

OUT: Ginnivan, Hoskin-Elliott (ommitted), Murphy (injured).

Imo McCreery needs game time playing midfield leaving him forward does not allow him to learn to play as a mid.

It should be either as a fwd mid rotating role or vice versa mid forward. Needs minutes in there.

That might be true but that shouldn't be taking place at AFL level with our quantity of midfielders.

Good game but no offence to him, he's hardly undroppable. I think Macrae and Sullivan both offer more upside. He was dropped last year (before his injury).

Thought it was one of WHEs best years last year and don't think he's in the firing line yet if he maintains that level.

Imo other seasons he was (from a supporter viewpoint) droppable and imo prob should of been.
But his work rate sees coaching groups back him in due to his 2 way running gps tracking.

Yeah I think it can especially as a fwd mid switching with Degoey.

McCreery 70% fwd / 30% Mid
Degoey 70% mid / 30% fwd

Is how I'd start him out. Keep opposition on thier feet with minding Degoey in uncomfortable territory throughout the game and exposes McCreery who is also a power mid in style.

If De Goey is going to have an AA year in the guts, keep him there. He looked good in that role last night. McCreery's development in the midfield will come in time if it does happen. Some players are better in a forward position, even if they have midfield traits.

A little surprised the news is trickling out. Thought they might announce all hits and misses at once, thanking all for the efforts

They will have told the players. It'll be from the players or those around them.

Been fun watching the speculation on our SSPs this summer by this board.

Only Sullivan seemed to be a definite in (Eyre maybe too up until his injury when it became extremely doubtful) whilst only Huthswaite seemed a definite no.

With the rest including Eyre they were going in and out of fashion on an hourly basis!

Personally and I’m far from an expert, I thought Teakle was unneeded from a list perspective with steene and Begg the next gen players and frampton an ideal fifth option

Picking up two mids is interesting but I guess it reflects the need to replace Pendles Mitchell Elliott WHE and Sidey

Also interesting that all our SSPs are very experienced compared to those who missed out. Clearly looking to the immediate future to give us every chance at a premiership dynasty whilst in the window.

Degoey can still have a AA year as a 70/30 player.
Kicking goals only enhances the umps vision of him.
It also keeps him stay on the field instead of bench resting.

JDG will be full time mid, but that doesn't stop McCreery from chopping him out when Jordy rests on the bench for 20+% of the game.

Ralph must have people down there waiting outside the meeting rooms to ambush them as they come out. Surely their friends and families don't have him on speed dial.

Teakle missing out could be as much about Begg and Steene having good preseasons.

When I first suggested a couple of years ago that McCreery might be a midfield prospect, there were the provisos that he was (at that time) a bit fumbly and hesitant to take possession, and (related) he didn't get enough of the ball. The last is still an issue. he may still be of value there, but others that get more of the ball are more likely.
When Sidebottom retires, the wing might be the spot for him, in the frightening Millane mold. He is not that strong overhead, but his pace and off the straight line passing to forwards is deadly.

Prefer he rest fwd personally as he is good for a few goals in the role. His fitness looks like it would be possible too.
We don't need him stuck on the bench for the last 13 minutes of a game again!

Forward isn't a rest anymore. If he did play a combination of mid and forward, it'd be more like 60% mid and 25% forward as opposed to 80% mid. I'd take the latter. Do any mids play 100% game time by "resting" forward? - I wouldn't have thought so.

Eyre doesn’t surprise me hugely. I had said that I’d still take him if he had shown enough up until his injury.

Sullivan also makes sense. I said he should get a spot based on the intra club. Was great.

But Bytel? Seems an odd choice.

Would have gone with Teakle or Sofronidis. Murphy may not last the season and Howe will retire this year most likely. Sofronidis is 23 and taller than both and is a like for like style defender. Odd choice.

Same same really. Doesn’t change my point.

My point is that adding Teakle in the short term would only have been overkill if Begg and Steene are AFL relevant - last year they weren't - however if they've made good progress and are now AFL relevant - Teakle would indeed be overkill. Or it could just be that they don't rate Teakle highly enough.

Is there a chance we sign Sofrinidis to the VFL side or is he committed to Coburg? Would obviously be better to have him in the system if he is an MSD chance
