Has to be between McRae,Nicks,Fagan surely?

Nicks has taken a bottom 4 team last season to a potential Top 2 finish with both defense and offense in the top 4 categories.

McRae leading wire to wire in 1st place virtually all season .

Fagan… No Premiership hangover and could still finish Top 2.

Honourable mention to Hawks coach Mitchell.

How do they even choose this? Chris Scott in 2022 led the oldest side ever to 16 straight wins, two games clear top of the ladder, 144%, won the Grand Final by 81 points but still couldn't pick up his first award.

I love our bloke but (like Nicks who is coaching well) he's at a well funded club: there is no shortage of support.

Fagan has had some superb recruiting but a lot of that list he's developed now, and they're not the richest.

That goes double for Chris Scott. Probably the best this year.

Clarko never had one either. Its probably the 2nd worst award behind the Brownlow.

Nicks taking a team from bottom 4 to top 4 would have to take it out.

Honourable mention to my guy Yze, a side most said would not win a game has currently won 5, could be 6 wins by the end of the season.

I feel like most top teams are performing to expectation, Adelaide if they can finish top 2 are probably the only team that have over performed.

They (Almost) always give it to whoever has improved the performance of the team the Most. Chris Scott taking Geelong from 3rd in '21 to 1st in '22 isn't that impressive. Collingwood going from bottom 4 to top 4 is.

It's probably McRae.

Given how it's selected though, and depending on the final 5 weeks of the season it could also be one of Longmuir or Hardwick.

It should go to the GF winner, I understand the bottom 4 to top 4 argument which is pretty good, but if you don't win the GF you have lost your last game of the year and most likely outcoached.

The winning Coach already gets the Jock Mchale medal along with a regular medal. Why do they need another?

Too early to tell, a lot to play out including finals. I'm happy for the award to not always go to the GF winner as they already get a medal so from where you come from has to factor in.

This is much worse, the Brownlow goes to the best player sometimes much more often than the best coach gets this award.

The problem with this logic is you can easily argue they shouldn't have been bottom 4 last year and it was partly poor coaching for why they were.

I know he won't get it but Yze has far exceeded anyone's expectations. With the player turnover Richmond had, many people including people in the know as well as fans, were genuinely worried that Richmond might not win a game with the talent left on their list. They will likely still finish bottom 3 but they look to have leapfrogged the Eagles and North who should be further along with their build.

I second the Yze nomination. He has done a great job in his second year with that list. Lynch being a whining bitch would be the only black mark, otherwise he's done an excellent job to have integrated the kids, kept the senior guys enthused and have the team playing an identifiable brand

Chris Scott?
The guy that has extra salary cap every year and consistently recruits stars?

Nah

Nah
Proof?

Scott has recruited a couple of players who have had recent All Australian seasons at their previous club to my memory: Dangerfield and Cameron. He's also had pretty no access to top 10 picks in the draft and his teams have missed finals twice.
