Yep pretty much how I view them too, probably the one on your list prior to last night is Konstanty who is lets be real just keeping the position warm for a better talent
He has flashes, but i don't think he showed enough to warrant being selected for every single game this year. He can apply good forward pressure, but doesn't get enough of it, and isn't damaging enough when he does get it, only kicked 10 goals for the year.
The problem is that we have very few other options on our list to push him out. Hopefully Banch and Dove give him some competition next year.

Personally the so called 'band 1' should start as an end of first round. It's still compensation but it would stop the silly thing of 'hey let him go we get a free top 5 pick'. Compensation won't stop lets be real it won't but what has to happen is to stop these ridiculous compensation picks in the top tier. I mean I like TDK but on what universe is he worth a top 10 pick? Allen has played how many games in 2 years and somehow is worth pick 2. I don't blame the clubs I blame the AFL for letting a system come up that is ridiculous. If a late teens pick was enough for Franklin it's enough, yeah I know it was tied to the Hawks finishing position but still.
The world where TDK is the 2nd highest paid player in the comp (highest if you factor in length of contract).

The AFL has been slow to move on what is required to gain a first round draft pick. Needs to be $ 1.5M or higher to reflect where contracts are going

His salary has zilch to do with it. The comp should start end of first and should be the same for all comp picks

The AFL is slow to move on everything. Demetriou wasn't a super genius or anything but he looks like an amazing administrator compared to the sheer incompetence under Gil and Dill.

So Collingwood get the same compensation for Mihocek as Blues get for TDK. Sounds fair.

No, Miochek would be band 2, so the next band (end of second or whatever). Just move the band 1's to the end of first so starting at pick 19 and going ladder position. It will stop this rubbish situation of letting players go to get a free top selection. I don't blame the clubs I blame the AFL here

But even still, it’s pretty much an industry to churn through these draftees and treat them as commodities. After tonight they’ll all be somewhere and then the attention turns to the 2026 draft cohort and 2025 is literally forgotten.

Apparently these draftees are the salvation of clubs, whereas most of them are better off going and getting a full time job elsewhere because in a few years they’ll be delisted and playing local football. I hate the way they are turned into useful assets then disposed of accordingly. It doesn’t add a lot of positives to a young person in this day and age.
They're aren't getting full-time jobs at 18 that pay what an AFL player is paid plus are able to study.

It's not what you said.

How can the Suns (a semi-finalist) send three first rounders to the Dees for Petracca, and then a month later stroll into the national draft and take four kids in the first 20 picks.
Because the Sun still took 2 first round picks and 4 second round picks in to the draft, and live traded for a 5th second round pick at the start of the draft.

They two picks in this year’s draft, they used to help get Petracca, they acquired by trading Flanders to St Kilda for pick 7 and the other pick they got from Port for Lukosius last year, when they asked for a future first round pick, instead of a first round pick in last year’s draft.

Gold Coast basically spent to trade and draft periods, 2024 and 2025 trading players for picks in this years draft, knowing they had multiple kids to match.

Pretty much the exact same thing Richmond did last year, except Richmond loaded up on picks to use in one draft.

A lot of you southern clubs need to look at your recruiting teams who are still stuck in the 90’s and have no ****ing imagination about how to accrue extra picks, or use the current system to get better.

It’s all just whinge, whinge, whinge when the system doesn’t work in your favour.

Cherry pick the northern clubs of young players for the best part of a decade, nothing to see here. When the AFL’s solution to combat this starts working, it’s have a sook time.

There’s a real simple solution to fixing compo.

Just trade the player before they reach FA.
Hanging around an extra year in a situation they don’t want to be in for a bs compo pick is cooked.

The “compo is the cap space you get for not paying that player. That’s all you need. Want more trade them earlier

Mate take off the privilege blinkers.

Richmond lost 3 of their top 5 in the 2024 B&F to get picks 7, 12, 14 and 21. None of the players GC lost even finished in the top ten of their B&F this year, and they ended up with picks 2, 5, 17 and 18.

Sure the Suns don't have a first rounder next year, but they have five first round picks from the last two drafts, including three top ten picks, whilst also bringing in high-profile players.

If you're arguing that GC are paying a fair price, then riddle me this - would GC be able to get the same outcome if the academy points system didn't exist? **** no.

Also whilst you're taking pot shots at other recruiting teams, a donkey could succeed at recruiting for Gold Coast with the opportunities they've had.

Hardly, and he's listed as a medium forward.

Lets look at some actual smalls okay, Papley is 1.78cm, Charlie Cameron is a few cm shorter too. 185 is a medium forward. He plays both but he's not an out and out small forward, he's basically their Brad Close who isn't really a small but more a medium just plays both
Lets agree to disagree
