It's max 44 including 2 cat B rookies.

You can have 36-38 on the senior list and 4-6 on the cat A rookie list, but the combined total can't exceed 42.

We've currently got 38 on the senior list, and 3 cat A rookies, so room for one more (most likely Kellaway).
interesting! where have you found that breakdown written? I have had zero luck trying to find a clear and concise written breakdown of what is what on this stuff!

this is one of the limited things I could find on the topic.

Under the current Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) signed ahead of the 2023 season and running to the 2027 campaign - before Tasmania join the competition - the AFL confirmed a total of up to 44 players allocated across three categories: Primary list (36-38), Category A Rookie (no more than 6) and Category B Rookie (no more than 2).

Again there may be other subsection of rules written elsewhere, but that just reads like the 44 are made up across all 3 providing you don't exceed the max number withing each.

Pretty sure its 2 cat B but also that's still only 1 x cat A left.

We can add a cat B but who would we add?

yes, that is correct.

our list ATM

38 primary listed players = full

3 Cat A Rookies Campbell Gray, Mykelti Lefau, James Trezise = 1 spot left

1 Cat B Rookie Oliver Hayes-Brown = 1 spot left

we have 1 pick in the Cat A Rookie draft if we choose to use it.............NO Kellaway can't be a Cat B Rookie

max list size = 44
max primary spots = 38 which we filled last night.
Max Cat A rookies is 6, we have 3 currently.
Max Cat B rookies is 2, we have 1.

38 + 3 + 1 = 42 spots of 44 filled.

So we still could utilise 2 of our 3 remaining rookie spots?
max list size is 42 + an option to have 2 x cat B on top to make 44.

Jesus thats a shit lot we bided on with only Hipwood becoming a reg AFL player and he is nothing special

The 18-year-old ran an impressive 6:38 in the 2km time trial and 8.39 seconds on the agility test at the Draft Combine, excellent results for a player of his height.

people forget that. Smillie is a good athlete despite what ppl say on here.

Jagga Smith & Finn O'Sullivan both ran 6:27-6:28 in the same time trial, I don't think endurance is a concern at all for Smillie in fact I think it is very good.

Greeves has neither speed or endurance at least Smillie has one of them, speed isn't Smillie strong suit but he was quicker Langford in the 20m sprint who ran the 2km TT in 6:16. that's why these guys got picked in the top 10 they have good endurance, I don't believe in today's game a player that has both poor speed & endurance would get picked high personally.

For Instance Grlj ran 5:58 which was 2nd so he Smillie is only 40 secs slower than the 2nd best runner in this draft not bad at all considering he is 6.5ft

So compare smiley and Greeves side by side

Max Cat A rookies is 6, we have 3 currently.
Max Cat B rookies is 2, we have 1.

38 + 3 + 1 = 42 spots of 44 filled.

So we still could utilise 2 of our 3 remaining rookie spots?
Not sure if anybody has replied but from what i know

List size - 44
Rookie spots 4+2 catb
we could have gone 36+6
But have gone 38 +4

We have 1 rookie spot and 1 Cat B

Stupid system and should be 10 Rookie spots with 2-3 Cat B
Isnt it all about getting as many kids as possible to find good AFL players ?
surely $500k a year is not alot of money for AFL or the clubs per club

This is from the CBA

LOL at the eagles bidding on teams NGA players and expecting theirs to get to the Rookie draft
only to run out of list spots and lose them to other clubs. And throw away the 2nd rounder they got for flyin Ryan on a 1 spot upgrade to feck it up and not end up with the player they bid on.

Shambles

Just goes to show that they should of bid on zeke and Patterson 1&2
Might of had a chance at addinsal then

thats a fair point too on the size and trying to offer more opportunities to more players.

100% and i have no idea why clubs love flaunting their #1 kid with that jumper
Its not like you are the best and have achieved something other than be a shit team that year

If they were smart and tactical it would have been
1.Zeke
2.Patterson
3.Dean
4.Duursma
5,Annable
6.CDT

They also should have been smarter in their dealings with Carlton in trading out Chesser
They should have done #13+#41 Chesser for #9+#53 and wouldnt have thrown away the F2

With that pick #9 they could of had their choice of Sharp/ Addinsall and wouldnt of had their Father son/Academy kids taken also should have Rookie listed Cripps and delisted some sh!t trucks they have on their list.

Matty Clarke has really Fecked this up

140 games over a decade would also suggest Kennedy has had a career.

Its such a stupid rule specially for the lower clubs which struggle to meet the cap floor

If say Richmond had the chance to take another 3-4 players in the rookie draft we would have more chance on improving quicker and not ask for assistance.

They could also if they wanted just do any club that finishes bottom 4 for 3 years running gets an extra 4 rookie spots for 3 years which would eliminate their structure for list sizes if that was the issue.

After all isnt it about making it a more competitive league and having lower teams get better quicker

Can someone explain to me why Gold Coast traded their 3rd rounder this year for our 5th next year with it being worth nothing in points and pretty unlikely it will be used
