But he's already in ours so if he stays he'll be draft eligible for us.... Right?
Wrong, that's only because Centrals are aligned to the Crows via the SANFL.

  • Adelaide Crows (AFL):
    • SANFL Alignment: Central District, Glenelg, North Adelaide, and Sturt
  • Port Adelaide (AFL):
    • SANFL Alignment: Norwood, South Adelaide, West Adelaide, and Woodville-West Torrens

Highly unlikely he will get NGA certified anyway.

Who decided these alignments?
Can picture the giggling committee.... let's align Norwood with Port

Is this footage from pre-season, or last season?

Coates Talent League 2025: Every Sandringham Dragons boys player analysed

Premierships, high draft picks...the Sandringham Dragons continue to set the pace in under-18 football. We look at this year’s boys CTL squad, player-by-player.

48 Archie Edwards

The brother of Charlie Edwards who was drafted by the Adelaide Crows two years ago. A third tall forward or defender, Archie is very good in the air and a great intercept mark. Will play behind the ball to start off. Good ball user as well.

Probably the first draft in awhile we aren't crying out for a midfielder, we need a ruck more than anything and probably a tall forward. I assume we trade our first for a player

We're still crying out for midfielders (you never really stop, seeing midfield is just an ability check), and tall forward is still the absolute last thing we need.

Agree with you re. midfielders, but not about tall forwards. Think we're lacking some depth there. How many injuries are we away from a soon-to-be-delisted Burgess getting bulk games? 1? 2 until we get to Welsh? I think we need a project tall (tbh, I'm intrigued by Cody Curtin).

If you're drafting a project tall forward for "depth", you're wasting your time. That's literally what Burgess is there for, and it does not matter in the slightest that he's soon to be delisted. Depth is just about finding guys on the cheap who won't complain that they're not getting games, and will adhere to the game plan.

We probably pull the plug on four talls with an injury and likely bring in Murphy as another runner. Unless we've fallen in love with Toby Murray as a prospect (and considering he's been a feature on our emergency lists recently, we may well have).

It does matter, because he's manifestly not AFL quality.

I don't think it's as easy as you seem to be implying to switch from a 3-4 tall setup to something more mobile in the event of injuries. That requires cascading changes in how we move the ball.

Happy to agree to disagree here.

We in no way should bring in Murphy, there's like 6 midfield types ahead of him that could legitimately be salty about being out of the 22 and 3 more that haven't debuted that should be picked first.

This kid kicks it a bit similar to Errol Gulden

Perfectly weighted kicks to draw the forward to ball rather than other way around
Max King certainly has the athleticism well covered, another Sydney Academy absolute steal because he also certainly has the football skills down pat.

You're hard to convince..

Dowling had 98 possessions at the Nationals playing midfield yet only 28 were contested....he gets his possessions because he has good endurance and gets on his bike...he is not an inside extractor type.
His game translates to outside mid at afl level and that’s what the club obvs thinks too

In time he may go inside a bit but I think you’re correct mutineer

His ball winning is more about endurance and being a good link up player through smart running than it is about inside ball winning

If he keeps working on his inside ball winning and stoppage craft he has some potential to go inside more in time due to he’s a decent size and naturally finds ball but that’s no guarantee

Needs to work on his skills and footy IQ but the raw athletic traits and contested marking / vertical leap and genuine ceiling put him in mix as a potential no 1 pick if it all came together at the champs

I feel as though he won’t quite get there but be a freak in a few years having come from soccer background

Would love to grab Curtin as he could be a genuinely gun key defender as well as key forward

Family ties etc

I had doubts on his speed / agility but passing test so far

‘Ultra’ competitive which sets him aside from Mcasey

Likely not to be available to us but depending on how things pan out something like this in terms of draft order for us?
1. Sharp or best available talent
2 KPF a la Curtin?
3. Ruck vs Small fwd
4 Stevens FS pick
Rookie pick Ruck

I assume we’re likely to have space for four players on list? And presumably won’t have the high end pick available to get both 1 and 2.

There's been lots of talk about how Dyson had a poor opening game of the season here, but I think we can dig a little deeper. He didn't find a lot of the footy, but was played as a high half forward which can become a bit of a graveyard with the ball constantly flying over your head. The touches he did have were mostly clean and constructive, and he had a hand in each of the critical final two scores that got his team up on the day.

When you're the most talented kid playing junior footy you are the game plan, but when you accept the move up to senior footy you have to fit into a structure and you're not likely to be the star. I did feel that he was deferring too much to his teammates at times, hovering outside of contests waiting to receive instead of being proactive, and I'm sure that will change as he gains confidence at the level.

That’s not correct - all the boys in 16/18 comps are part of the clubs game plan and the star players have rotations just like others

I'm sorry, where did I say that star juniors don't have rotations?

My point was that when you're a star at junior level you play a central role designed to maximize your talents and therefore maximize your impact in the game which in turn helps your team's chances of winning. When you move up to senior footy, like with Dyson at Central Districts, you're more likely to have to accept a more peripheral role in the team, such as playing on a forward flank instead of as a primary onballer.

Would there be any correlation between rough childhood and not making it in the AFL system? How much would a rocky unstable home life as a child affect someone later in life within the top footballing environment?

Recruiters absolutely think this is an issue. Adam Simpson confirmed it years ago and it's proven by the significant percentage of players taken from private schools
