Was he generally around 31% DE , or was that an anomally?
Not sure how DE works exactly. If you watch those videos I posted he kicks a lot long to defenders advantage or just to no one that then ends in a contest. I think they count as effective somehow.

Seems to be a weighting issue. When he kicks for goal it doesn't matter if he kicks it 10 or 15m further than he meant lol.

Deficit question..

If a bid comes on a player in the first round, e.g for Patterson and the bid sends a club into deficit.

Does Gold Coast need to have a future first for that deficit to come from?

Or is it a collective 1,167 points ?

Some mixed reports on this, if they need the future first for deficit that helps us!

Reading a bit more information about the kids in the draft I do wonder if we are considering taking both Robey and Sharp.

Having a look at our current group of players aged 24 or younger I can see how going down this path would make sense.

Adding those 2 to Lalor Smillie & McAuliffe would give us a strong core of 5 big 187cm plus contested ball mids to build around, while we have the likes of Hotton Campbell Ralphsmith Clarke Retschko Green Alger(sub 3 20m) Smith(sub 3 20) & even McAuliffe(sub 3 20m) can provide the speed & spread from the contest that we seemed to lack through 2025.

We still have the mature bodies of Taranto Hopper & Ross around that means we don't need to throw those young guys to the wolves but can instead take our time to develop them properly
I just cannot help but feel by having five young big bodied midfielders who all aren't renown for their overall running tanks makes our midfield very one dimensional, especially when you consider Hopper & Taranto both have another four years left on their contracts.

I know you've listed players like Ralphsmith, Clarke, Retschko, Green and Smith as good runners to compliment our bigger midfield players but I would genuinely question how many of those players will become 200 game players or be a part of the next strong finals team we have.

Both Robey and Sharp look like great prospects and I really like both of them but I cannot help but feel drafting them both together impacts the overall balance of our squad.

Imagine this:-

1. West Coast - Duursma
2. West Coast - Jump on Robey.
3. Essendon - panic for CDT and trade 5 and 6 for 3 and 38

4. Richmond - Sharp
5. Richmond - Cumming
6. Richmond - Grlj
Rookie - Kellaway

I'd be devastated not to take Robey but for those against taking CDT like myself it would be a pretty dreamy outcome I reckon.

Chances of it happening - <2%. 🤣

Still talking footy?
Nope

His analysis on RMC looks good, pretty good chance he fits our developing midfield to a "T". Was an important cog in the SA midfield working with Sharp and Cumming.

STRENGTHS:

  • Ball-winning
  • Clean hands
  • Consistency
  • Defensive pressure
  • Stoppage craft
  • Toughness

IMPROVEMENTS:

  • Hurt factor
  • Size
The first improvement area is probably the one that separates the VFL guys from the guys who make it. He does a lot of things well and reckon his kicking has been underrated but could take the game on a bit more with it and that would be an improvement in hurt factor.

Pick 38 which ends up being 31-33 on draft night should give us a chance at a good selection!

Some possible options:

What does it end up as an open pool pick. Seen some ratings where there is a crazy number of club tied players before us which would see us picking at like 42 but ultimately no different to picking at 33 with 9 less bids lol

AFL will decide on the night pending GC'S situation I reckon.

Pick deficit is the same round. I.e a pick in the 2nd round only impacts your future 2nd not 1st.

Of course this year every chance Murray/Addinsal get bid on at say 27 which will be a first round pick 🤣

heck its annoying the club is so watertight for leaks sometimes. Stupid professional campaigners, throw us a bone every now and then would ya
Farkkkin campaigners didnt even leak pick 1 ffs

Prefer this to the opposite tbh. Plus it builds anticipation? But I get what you're saying...

Just use the unprofessional clubs who leak to get breadcrumbs.

Case in point sounds like Dees and Bombers think Cumming will be at their picks.

So if Gold Coast do t have a F1 and we bid on Patterson at 3 and deficit is required to match, what happens then?

As mentioned I'm on the Grlj/Cumming bandwagon to compliment the bigger bodied mids that we have, I was just looking at the make up of our team for the majority of 2025 season and could see that Yze loves his bigger bodied mids to be the focal point of his midfield unit and raised the possibility that adding Sharp & Robey would round out a pretty strong group that could be the foundation of our midfield come 2027/2028 which allows us to be less reliant on Taranto & Hopper

How bad was it when it was leaked that we were picking Conca. FMD. Him, Lennon and Corey Ellis were FJ duds that's for sure.

Conca had to be flown over at short notice for the draft cause Shitty Sheehan didn't have him in his top 20.

The deficit that they can accumulate is directly tied to the 2026 picks that they currently have which are 2 x 2nd's and 2 x 3rd's. So the maximum they can go into deficit is 667pts.

*Edit.......the value of those picks are calculated as end of 2nd round (2 x 36) and end of 3rd round (2 x 54)

Sometimes I miss the good old days like when we welcomed Reece Conca on the club website BEFORE the draft 🤦🏻

Frustrated World Cup GIF
Reckon we could safely upload a Josh Lindsay welcome video if we want him.
