Time capsule thread is the go for more.

Big ticks for me on the Melbourne Dumpster Fire Demons front: ladder position spot on (we might end up worse tbf :$ ), jinxed Oliver for the 2nd straight year, Goody, Green and Lamb all gone looks promising. LFG

Nah, you're losing that thread because your Oliver for B&F prediction is very obviously completely serious. Sorry.

Think this is a bit hyperbolic.

Prior to this year we was defensively excellent, and I have distinct memory of him taking the game on with some incredible kicks from half-back.

Granted, he's had a pretty bad season this year. I wonder how much of that is due to injury, lack of pre-seasons and the general decline of the whole team. Possibly he's also mentally checked out having decided to leave a while ago.

I'd like to keep him, but also won't be too devastated if he goes. Really hope AMW bounces back well from his injury.

Take what we can get for Lever and run.

Seems we're stuck with Oliver unfortunately. Should have gone all in on trading him previously if the interest was there.
Yeah saying id be happy that McVee left coz of one bad season is ******ed. Id be genuinely upset if he left, his best is elite. We have **** all players who can be elite in their positions right now.

And 21 years old.

One season is a pretty big sample size of his career so far.

Last year he tried to play midfield and was horrible so add that to it.

I’m glad the club is holding firm on 2 years and not offering overs, prob first good thing Lamb has done.

And the 3 years before that weren't a pretty big sample size that he's very good? Much like Bowey, if we traded him last year after a bad season we'd be looking dumb right now.

If McVee was going to stay we would have offered a longer deal. Clearly the shorter deal is an indication he has second thoughts and we're trying to tempt him with just a little longer.

That, or our cap is so ****ed we can't match offers in the west so he is thinking why the **** would he stay. This would be a colossal mismanagement and I doubt it, but not saying its impossible as we have three massive deals on the books now plus whatever we are paying Gawn/Viney/Lever/May.

Plus still paying Brayshaw. Our cap is definitely closer to full than open

I know we have to pay some of Brayshaw but not all, it is either the last two or last three years. Either way an absolute disaster and as sad as the way he left the game was, it was always a horrible contract.

Realistically the only long term deal we gave out 2020-2024 that I agreed with was Trac because he is incredibly professional, and even he has suffered a freak injury that has badly affected his form. The Kozzy deal could also go bad but at least it gives the club security on not getting ripped off in a trade and we keep by FAR our most marketable player who is also a top 20 player in the competition.

Aren’t we paying like 75% of Brayshaws contract in 2027 or something?

Would be fair few blokes on our list taking unders. Probably why we don’t want many 2nd or 3rd round picks in that middle rung, we probably can’t afford them once they need a renewal because we got 4-5m tied up on about 6 blokes.

The problem with having so many high paid players is that's where you lose the McVees, or a bowey, Chandler etc. Even if we spend 200k per year on Brayshaw that's one player potentially we are down. Combined with the rest we probably lose one guy who's on 300 who can get 700 elsewhere

We always love to overcorrect.

I can see us stock piling picks and then bringing in a fresh wave of silky good kicks / outside runners like we did with Watts, Scully, Gysberts, Morton, Toumpas, Blease ect. Just in time for game to go back to an inside contested game again no doubt.

Then we can grab the next iteration of Crouch and Magnus to fill the void.

Then we can stock pile picks again and overcorrect once more by grabbing the next wave of Viney, Oliver, Trac, Sparrow ect (then grab the next Billings, Hunter and Sharp to fill the outside void) when we realise it’s gone outside again. and rinse and repeat for 100 years.

Brayshaw one depends on a bunch of stuff - We're up for 100% of his contract in the cap for 2027 and 2028, but depends on how the contract was weighted with how big that figure will be. Still reckon the Gawn and Viney extensions were a financial decision and happened to help work around the Gus contract as well as other contracts we had coming, on top of Houston lined up (at the time).

am i right in thinking that because McVee was a rookie pick, then he can leave as a free agent so we can only get compo for him from the AFL and not a trade deal? i think it's the same thing as when Jordon left. if so, we are probably going to get screwed.

Jordon was a free agent because he was delisted and then re-rookied, McVee is just a standard rookie so not a free agent.
