When is Jason Taylor going to come under pressure. He has been head of recruiting since 2012 and has continued failed at drafting forward half talent.
Only successful picks have been Hogan, Kosi and Fritsch in 12 years. Now looks like he has wasted two first round picks on Jefferson and Tholstrup which could set us back massively.

If you wonder why we arnt that effective going forward it’s because the lack of pure talent as a forward we have down there, they are workman not class

To be fair the clubs strategy of pissing off most of our 2nd and 3rd round picks for close to a decade has meant we could have used any hobo off the street to lead our drafting since all we do is take first rounders (the obvious picks) and upgrade rookies.

"Would have been available" is a touch strong, then, no?

How so? The concensus said he would have been there. Anyway as I said, even if he wasn’t available, it would have probably worked out better for us anyway.

You are trying to argue for the sake of it, but end of the day it was a shit move and has set us back.

Not really - just wondering why you used "would have been available" like it's fact, when it's not.

Also are those picks taking into account the selections being moved back due to academies etc., out of interest (genuine question)?

I explained why so you can stop spending Mother’s Day on important things such as wondering why someone on an internet forum said something.

And yes they were.

With the picks we gave up for Tholstrup we could have drafted

Pick 18: Tholstrup (would have been available anyway)
Pick 27: Logan Morris
Pick 35: Joel Freijah

Can add Langford and Windsor to that list also if you want to work out what we offered up for Reid. (Another failure that worked out in our favor for it falling through).
Hasn’t it been covered that Pick 28 was about 38 after compensation and Father son (Morris was never an option at the picks we had?)

There were 10 academy/ father son and compo picks before pick 30

I think I'll choose to keep wondering on this occasion.

No

Morris was always an option, hell, we could have even used our original pick 18 on him. Or bundled a stack of 2nd n 3rd rounders to move up like we always do.

Isn’t that what we pay Taylor to do? Actually identify forward talent instead of going for the obvious nice blokes like Weed, Jefferson, Tholstrup ect

We have an absolutely neutered forwardline bereft of talent. 0 goals between 7 of our forwards yesterday (JvR, Jefferson, Chandler, Spargo, Fritsch, Trac & Tholstrup).

Then week in week out opposition defenders tear us up (Weddle and Jiath yesterday), so they are not only not scoring, but there opponents are running around as they please.

Then you look at our 2s and see VFL blokes like Henderson, Johnson and Fullerton as our depth and you can see how dire it is.

If they had stones and creativity they'd try and trade Lever and back in Turner, he was very effective yesterday with 4 intercept marks. Could probably con a late first or early second for Lever. Should have tried to move May last year.
I think this has merit to it.

I highly doubt anyone would want Lever. I also think he is pretty happy and wouldn't want a trade.
Jake at the current age of 29Yrs 2Mths of age would be an ideal player for the captaincy of the Tassie Devils side.

An Unrestricted Free agent at end of 2028...
He would be a Pre-Agent in 2027.

I'm a Devils supporter and I don't want him. He will be old then with lucky to have a season left, especially with how his body seems to be breaking down at the moment.

You want someone who has a few years left that can lead from the front. Like what Ablett did for Gold Coast.

Plus we will get better defenders anyway.
