The opinion is right up there with the punctuation
I'll try another one, with better punctuation.

With the amount of rookies to choose from, excluding the backline, I have thought to treat D6 as a D7.

This is due to my Flex player being more likely to outscore my D6. Therefore, I can chuck someone like Z.Reid in D6, and not worry about the eventual low score.

The way I see it, people are building their strongest 23 man squad, where they should be looking for their best 22, with 9 cash cows.

Okay, but then your (everyone's) F1 gets injured on 11 points and now you are copping that D6 score, and all of the people who tried to make their 23rd player as strong as possible have an advantage over you.

I'm thinking the opposite to you. In the past, when def rooks looked poor, I have worried about putting together a strong back 6 with no rooks because if one cheap defender does kick off, you can't get them on the field without seriously altering your structure and burning trades. Now if that happens, I can just put a defender in the flex spot. So Shoenmaker at D6 it is.

My compliments on the punctuation

if youre not doing it like this, youre doing it wrong.
You didn't watch this scrub in the Indigenous match? He looked trash against a barely-WAFL level ruckman and a barely-VFL level forward.

There is zero chance I'm starting this bloke, even if Darcy is out for the season.

Happy to correct to him if he does well in rd1 and rd2. If he was RUCK/FWD, then it would be OK, because if he got dropped, you could hide him at F8. But with RUCK only, we don't know how Boyd is going to do at AFL level, you could have 2 RUCK only cheap donuts by rd2/3/4.

Will you pick him if Boyd doesn't get named?

Good question. Probably not. Maybe I'll just take a donut in Boyd, can use for loopholes, and I'm sure he'll get games soon.

Reidy could play 2 good games and Freo could still choose to drop him, play Jackson in the ruck, and bring another forward in.

Not so much a strategy but I think it would have made things a lot more interesting if they made the Flex optional. Either you go with it and get a bit of insurance against a low, injury affected/ rookie spud/ sub score plus an extra opportunity to generate cash, or you pass and get a little extra cash to go around for your starting squad but potentially expose yourself to being trapped with taking a low score.

Yeah Reidy is a potato.

IMO only reason he's probably going to play a couple of games is the club cocked up the Knobel situation.

I think there's a high chance after 2-3 rounds that Voss comes in for Reidy and Jackson does the majority of the ruck work with Voss chopping out.

Yeah agree.

But I've gone from "zero chance I'm starting this bloke" to 10%. If he can show something against Gawn in the praccy match, then surely that's a good sign, maybe he's improving with every opportunity.

Let's see. If he plays like he did in the Indigenous match, even a 50% effort Gawn is going to tear him a new one.

Question (and I haven’t done a lot of reading on the flex position). It can literally be cover to every position right? And rucks typically score the highest? Why not put someone like Gawn in the flex role and essentially have 3 premium rucks?

It's all part of the salary cap

Adding a 600k ruck at flex means one less 600k player elsewhere

There's 100s of ways to play the Flex

None are wrong so far
None are right yet either

Correct.

The flex will add points to scores each week but it will also cost teams scores some weeks as teams chase those extra points that may not come.

I like the fact that it creates more variables.

So how does the Flex affect loophole strategies??
If Eramus (for example) on your bench as Emergency scores 93 and you want to swing a non-scoring player on-field to get his score, the Flex will automatically replace that 0 score meaning that the Eramus score will still not count. Wouldn't you would need two non-playing players on-field to get the Emergency score?

Doesn’t change a thing the O becomes Erasmus not the flex score.

Emergency players override the flex.

My first & preferred strategy was 3 rucks ..... English, TDK, and Hodor ....well, we know how that turned out

Vesion 2 strategy .....with so many good Rookies, and most having 3 x rookie spots in the midfield ...we run the risk via rookie roulette of having a high scoring rookie stuck on the mid bench

But if I have the 4th rookie in the Flex ....my odds of getting all the better rookie scores theoretically improve

This is my thinking at the moment too - got Langford in there currently

Moved Boyd there.

So I think I’ve pretty much worked out the best flex. After analysing all summer I saw a guy called “Flynn” play for West Coast yesterday. You may not have heard of him but I think he could be their number 1 ruck, so should give us that extra ruck score.Genius I know and you can all thank me later.
