Not all that doom and gloom this week.
Fyfe and Sturt will play WAFL at least reserves next week. Then seniors the week after during bye.

Probably be ready for selection v Essendon at home, Round 15.
Are Fyfe and Sturt B23 right now? Particularly if NOD and Darcy are also available?

I'm not so sure about Sturt any more. I was a fan for ages. I think he's lost trust in his body and consequently the mind is now second guessing itself.
I hope to be proven wrong.
This has been a thing for a few years now.
  • 2023 not to the same extent coz he had a decent pre-season. But he still started the season iffy at WAFL level, came into the team and was iffy, but then strung some good WAFL games together and then had a decent run at AFL level.
  • 2024 pre-season he looked cooked and at both levels looked behind the 8-ball. But again strung a few good WAFL games together and again had a good run to end the season. A step above his 2023.
He's probably once again not gonna come back right away like a house on fire, but wouldn't be surprised if he once again has a good run to end the season. No doubt that will and should raise the question whether you wanna keep a player on the list that you're getting at best half a season of good play out of. But he went from 4 weeks out last week to 1 week out this week. That doesn't just happen accidentally.

Unpopular but I'd go Sturt over Dudley but not anyone else
Sturt has a long way back to come before he comes in over Dudley though. Missed a ton of football.

Last game being an anomaly Dudley is usually super clean with the ball and also pressures a lot better than I've seen from Sturt. Also a lot more room for improvement and gives the forward line a better balance. Sturt means we're too tall again.

Don't think we're really crying out for another Mark i50 --> goal player and should be working on developing crumbers and ground level players i50.

To be clear, he needs at least a month at Peel and like others have said, he tends to really struggle for a while back from injury. Both fully fit I'd take him over Dudley though I like how Dudley is developing. Switta would also want to make his game from the weekend the minimum each week.

Touch wood, it will be nice to actually have some players return in that 22-30 ranking range to have genuine pressure for spots again

I just feel that all that aside, Sturt is too one dimensional

With the utmost respect for what he has achieved thus far, Dudley will never not be 3ft tall. As soon as someone not 3ft tall offers a moderate degree of competence......
Once he learns how to milk a high free it’s over for the rest of the comp

At full fitness (a very big if admittedly) Sturt is quicker and more agile than Reid, Dudley and Banfield. Wouldn't be far Switta with the way he has been moving of late. Not saying he should play before them, but there's players from the last side he could replace through injury or form, and it won't make us "too tall" in the sense of speed/agility.

Dudley averages 2.3 tackles and 10.8 pressure acts. Reid and Switta similar tackles and 10.8 and 13.1 pressure acts. Last season Sturt was 1.5 tackles and 13.8 pressure acts. So our smalls are pretty similar to me for pressure, but Sturt kicks more goals.

Dudley has had multiple games as sub/subbed out though.

I’m actually worried about messing with the team too much. They are starting to find chemistry.
Other than Young & Walker, probably NOD I don’t want any walk up starts.
Especially O’Meara & Darcy. Make them earn it.
Sonny & Fyfe I just don’t know.
I’d like to give NOD a run over Sharp and see how that goes

I would bring Sturt in for Banfield/Switta and Fyfe is probably ahead of Raz and Johnson. It's nice to finally have a selection dilemma or two though!

Sturt definitely needs a couple at Peel, I'm not suggesting he comes straight back in but he is clearly B22 when up and about.

I could understand if we changed our attack and played a pressure forward ahead but we don't even have one on the list, so that aint happening. (Duds, Walters and Banners aint pressure forwards, any difference in pressure to Sturt is negligible at best)
