Roma is a good player
But as what?
He isn't a pure Ruckman
Doesn't generally win taps outs, so no advantage there.
We only had to watch Paddy Ryder to see the real beauty of tap outs to advantage.
Roma's strength is clearances, but is there an advantage there?
Yes he's stopping the opposing Ruckman from getting it,
But generally he bombs the ball into the forward line to no advantage.
And not a noted goal kicker.
Another strength of his is marking around the ground, but he doesn't tend to take match saving marks in the backline.
We're getting TDK as a pure Ruckman
I haven't seen enough of him to know how good he is.
Hopefully he gives us tap outs to advantage, aggression at the contest, game saving marks in the backline & lets the smaller mids do the rest
I'm not banking on him to be a noted goal

I agree with this. Marshall is a very good player who happens to be a ruckman. He definitely is not a great tap ruckman like a Paddy Ryder. TDK is a proper tap ruckman who is also a very good player (you watch him when he gets the RWB on him).

Take with a massive grain of salt. My mate who’s bit involved with the Cats. Hearing Whispers SDK could make the trip down the highway at the expense of Marshall in a trade.

Now this I likey. If we can nab SDK (a young key position defender) for Marshall, I am all for it. Not only is he a good defender who can play on the big forwards, it opens Hammer and Flying Viking to move forward potentially.

My gut feeling is if Roma leaves it's because he's got some deal happening with Geelong. If that's the case, hopefully we play hardball and get a good pick.

I can absolutely see playing the, both working. Roma and Paddy at times was delicious, and that's without the likes of Nas and Hugo etc running through the middle.

We all know Carlton have a sorded history of arrogance and corruption, but how would we feel if we lost the best ruckman we have had in sometime. I strongly believe in karma in footy and things like this have an odd way of coming back and smacking you in the face. So lets be the bigger group and not rub it in their faces.

Everyone should be asking why Carlton and Essendon still exist as a license.

For all the shit we've been in our past, everything, literally everything, has been for fair play and fielding a side to do our best in whatever situation arose and failing quite often to reach high highs.

Not them. They made decisions to F everything. Where's the karma? Some wet lettuce once off sanction for telling everyone else FU who engages the sport?

Can't all be super stars. That's a good mix of talent and hard workers. I think you'd struggle to find many back sixes better than that one as a whole.

Elwood, 3 bedrooms near the beach. Wish I still had it.

First house I bought was at the same time in Lauderdale (an outer beachside yes beachside suburb of Hobart) for the pricy sum of $79 000.

I regret selling that and moving close to Hobart (South Hobart which used to be a working class suburb but as my brother says now full of yuppies like me.

If we get TDK, retain Windhager and get another mid in the draft I'll be happy.

Having watched Paddy Ryder in his younger days, I would say TDK is very much in the same ball park- good leap for a big guy, can tap the ball, and can drop into the forward half and take a couple of grabs and kick a goal or two. These kind of players are not easy to come by. Dodson, if he continues to improve, would work well in tandem with TDK, and/ or Roma

Yeah, I can't see any benefit in two very similar rucks in one side. Marshall is a match winner and underrated as a match saver. TDK is going to have to step up to a baseline of consistency just to make it seamless. He's generally having around 6 elite games a year and probably an equal number of poor games. Marshall probably doesn't have the absolute eye catching games but he rarely has a bad one.

I hope we develop Dodson and Keeler as ruck forwards because we need back up for King and ideally a spot for Dodson to scare off raiders.

Marshall is good as a utility, but we have been majorly vulnerable in the ruck (and by extension in clearances) for a number of years now. That was uncontroversially accepted among fans long before we were linked to TDK, so this is not some sort of cope. TDK is not as consistent as a utility, but we won't be monstered in the midfield due to opposition rucks tapping the ball down the throat of their midfielders before we can lay a glove on them.

In a perfect world, we trade Marshall for good value with his blessing and without causing any disharmony among the group. If that is not possible (either because we can't get value or it will be too disruptive to morale) then the coaches will have their work cut out for them to find a way for TDK and Marshall to work together.
