2025 List Management Discussion - Part 3

Now that our season is over, and news is starting to break - it's time for a fresh thread.

This thread is to discuss all things list management - trades, draft, free agency, delistings and more.
As we are now officially in our off-season, we'll be wanting to keep this thread more strictly on-topic than the previous iterations.
Be respectful. You are allowed to disagree with someone - but play the ball, not the man. Repeat offenders will have their posting rights revoked.

Thanks to Lore once again for this incredibly useful spreadsheet.

Free Agency Period:
Friday, October 3rd - Friday, October 10th

I get a bit sick of all these casual slurs on our players. Hammer is an engineering student. Haven't met anyone with an engineering degree who is "a few sandwiches short of a picnic".
Think he meant footy IQ not his actual intelligence.

You must not have met many engineering students.

A couple of my friends who did engineering were mathematical geniuses.

But talk to them about anything else and you would swear they were the dumbest people you'd ever met. Seriously struggle to get out a sentence. But put some technical drawings in front of them with some complex equations and they can skim over it like its a breakfast menu.
I was nearly going to nominate myself.

Atar score of 95. Currently doing a Bachelor of Science at Melbourne Uni focussing on engineering maths. He's the full picnic.
Doesn’t mean he’s a smart footballer… not that I think he’s dumb mind you, not sure where that sentiment has kept coming from, but it’s not uncommon for talls I suppose.

Only commenting because I know so many dumb campaigners who got high atars from private schools, myself included, hardly indicative of anything.

The interest from Collingwood is interesting, hopefully highlights to many a degree of taking him for granted. A very decent and versatile prospect for his age.

Dudes allowed to be both booksmart and a space cadet on the training track. He's constantly got the coaches on his back for not knowing the game plan or being in the wrong spot etc etc - I attribute that (partially at least) to lack of game sense or dare I say it, on field intelligence at this point of his career.

Of all people I'm not really one to talk, but lighten up guys. Don't let it get you down as I'm sure Hammer wouldn't give a shit.

Maybe I am a dinosaur, but apart from Howard, we don't have a key back who can compete with the gorilla's. Tilthorpe and Darcy obliterated us this season. I remember Hammer speaking to friends on the fence at training bemoaning his opponent was 15cm taller than him the coming game. That opponent was Darcy.

Lyon mentioned more than once that we were short down back. I am a bit surprised we have loaded up with similiar types in lately in Hammer ( nominally a forward) Barrat, Tauru, JSOS and Aleer. I suppose JSOS is the Battle replacement, Tauru is the interceptor, Barrat will be the Webster replacement.
Maybe we are looming at a more robust midfield to help give the backs a chopout? Wilson on a wing needed to become more physical like Wood to help out as well.
Some ex players have mentioned the perceived, ' dour' Lyon gameplan is deliberately defensive as he wanted to get the defensive side of the game embedded as muscle memory in the kids and the list in general.
Will be interesting if this whole ground defence is better with some more troops and if we get more attacking with the additions. Ryan ( with King and Henry hopefully back) would suggest so

Yeh look i get it but also literally no one has guys big enough to one out compete with those monsters, theyre an exception and require defensive nous and craft rather than flat out athleticism (Darcy in particular is all about engaging early and bloicking without giving a free).

System defence is all the rage but it still requires a big athletic guy to stand your monsters, I see camma being physically capable of doing that as well as anyone (including Dougal).

nothing article on fox footy speculating steele could be moved on

If the right deal comes, he goes
It’s the midweek tackle and it’s effectively touching on what I said yesterday.

Club puts the right offer on the table. He can go.

Both parties are happy with that situation.

Obviously west coast if they get their compo package is the one to watch. But I reckon Jack wants the giants.

Just saw a thing on Twitter suggesting Lachie Neale to West Coast. It was an Wagles fan page so could be total BS

As long as the Giants don't give us magic beans for Jack.

Phil Davis on Saints list build SEN 10/9

That’s a very sensible listen.

It just goes to show we don’t need to over react to everything. For those that have read a bit on the mental response to news (Heuristics etc), bad news gets something like three times the reaction than good news, remembered longer, felt deeper, however you want to term it. It’s why bad news sells and gets clicks. We should remember this when reading the media, particularly the AFL media. It’s not as bad as it’s portrayed. Enjoy the ride!

I wonder if thats where his nickname Hammer came from?

"As dumb as a bag of hammers"

Anyone find it hilarious how much opposition supporters seem to rate our existing list after calling us trash throughout the year. "why would they piss their players off"

By all accounts, every club around the league seems to think that Romar was a combination of Dean Cox and Max Gawn this year and that Windhager is going to finish top 5 in the brownlow. (Love them both obvs)

I mean, I've been on the North trade board recently and you could be forgiven for thinking that it was the saints one

Reckon he has less chance of game time at the giants than the saints.

Using the fact hammer is an academic to argue he’s not a low IQ footballer is moronic.
As a footballer he routinely makes poor decisions. He may improve, but the smartest people don’t necessarily make the smartest athletes
Agreed
Reilly O’Brien graduated from high school with an ATAR of 99.75 and has a postgraduate masters in neuroscience.
Even funnier is that Will Minson plays saxophone, speaks fluent German and studied civil engineering but is forever remembered as being a "big ****ing shithead" by Rodney Eade ahaha
