2025 List Management Discussion - Part 3

Now that our season is over, and news is starting to break - it's time for a fresh thread.

This thread is to discuss all things list management - trades, draft, free agency, delistings and more.
As we are now officially in our off-season, we'll be wanting to keep this thread more strictly on-topic than the previous iterations.
Be respectful. You are allowed to disagree with someone - but play the ball, not the man. Repeat offenders will have their posting rights revoked.

Thanks to Lore once again for this incredibly useful spreadsheet.

Flanders is a ready made that can play rebound half back swapping with Nas, can play forward and inside mid. He has one absolutely elite year. CMac is a project mid with a fair bit of development sunk into him. Both good kicks, Cam probably less adaptable but looks very promising.
Can also makes good decisions with the ball.

Would be happy giving pick 7 for him! Like a first rounder, but with a few pre seasons under his belt.

Have him, Pou, NAS, Garcia coming through together.

Even if they get Merrett I'm not sure CMac is an option. He's so young, why would they turf a good young mid?
Good question, but I reckon the lure of them capitalising right now might have us in with a chance.

Can only hope. But if we offered 7 and got a F2nd back, then flipped that for Ryan. Would be an unreal bit of business.

Hawks could then flip 7 and 8 for Merrett.

Who says no?

Different players.

Flanders is more your busy bee. Low meters gained. Recycles possession or opens the field up for your more attacking players on the outside.

Cmac is a bigger potential midfield version of Max Hall. Great kick of the footy. But hasn’t been able to put it together with any consistency at the poos and wees.
Do we think Flanders would be more useful to us than Carroll and why?

His 2024 season - looks fairly elite statistically. He also had a 6 week stretch of playing purely on ball with 80% CBA in that time and he was racking up numbers like a B Grade Lachie Neale.

Nas was such a unique player, I dont think he will be replaced back there. If Nas goes full time mid,.it means we lose the nas role in defence all together.
We need that same attacking mindset though - if Sinclair is our only quality outlet from defence, it's easy for him to be shutdown. Multiple outlets are a must.

TDK and JSOS = Free
Aleer = 3rd Round Pick
Ryan = Future 2nd Round Pick

That's 4 players in without touching the 3 first round picks we have available to trade.

I think we only go for one of Flanders or CMac and our first should be enough for either.

Personally I feel we should trade Steele for his sake as much as anything. I don't have a spot for him in our best 23 and I'd rather Boxshall be emergency before him.
Works for me but for everyone cheering Vontae Mack no matter what in a trade sense this is what it looks like.

We have to stop pretending some of these kids who have shown promise will take us to the promised land. If we can land Flanders and Cmac then you do it. Firstly competition for spots is essential and secondly you can’t go deep into September with a best 23 you need a squad with depth.

There’s also the possibility that we get our trades done and still have a pick in the first round.

I just want our God damned David Putney...

Flanders is a gun, carroll is nothing special. Flanders is a smooth mover with brilliant disposal efficiency.
From what I've seen, that's because his kicks are 20m sideways kicks - and thats only if he chooses to kick instead of handballing which would be less than 50% of the time when playing in the midfield

Had 2 score involvements from 27 disposals with 62% CBAs against North Melbourne last year

Had 6 in his 43 disposal game against GWS with 83% CBAs

His 11 from 30 against Port with 86% CBAs is the only game worth frothing over IMO

Attached is his kicking efficiency, metres gained, and score involvements for each of the 6 games he played 60%+ CBAs last year. For reference, Ryan Byrnes and Zak Jones averaged 64.5% and 67% KE, respectively, this year

I can see the appeal with him being a clearance winner, but I think people are overrating his impact by foot. Just my opinion before I start copping it

With Flanders and CMac both possibilities, it makes you wonder why we were so quick to give Dow another contract
Further to what Brut said, he almost died. I like that the club did this, similar to the Jack Hayes situation, it says “We’ve got your back”.

There’s a cutoff where ruthless decisions must be made, we’re not a charity, but these moves are good for culcha imo

Like what string to his bow?
It feels like you also just mentioned what he could offer of difference e.g rotating forward more.
Being able to develop forward craft to a point he can become a potent target

Building power and speed to be able to out point defender in 1-1 contest or create separation on a lead

Developing forward half craft so he can hit targets inside 50 (I.e. Lipinski) rather than kick to contest

Good set shot goal kicking and marking is one thing but actually developing himself as a proper forward like Jordan Dawson would be the string to his bow I'm referring to.

deep breathe. the club won’t move contracted players it doesn’t want to move.
we need to remember that the media is a business funded largely by clicks, and the more clicks the more money.
to that point, see the circus with Windhager, the bashing and the praise of the club and everything in between.
Wilkie is going nowhere, nor is windy. Ro will test the water on a move and likely ask to be traded after Geelongs season wraps up.
Ignore the media. We are shaking the tree and those with small man’s syndrome are trying to drag us down
