2025 List Management Discussion - Part 3

Now that our season is over, and news is starting to break - it's time for a fresh thread.

This thread is to discuss all things list management - trades, draft, free agency, delistings and more.
As we are now officially in our off-season, we'll be wanting to keep this thread more strictly on-topic than the previous iterations.
Be respectful. You are allowed to disagree with someone - but play the ball, not the man. Repeat offenders will have their posting rights revoked.

Thanks to Lore once again for this incredibly useful spreadsheet.

I am by no means a fan of Essendon (the exact opposite), but it would be a pretty sad outcome if Merrett left IMO.
50/50 on this, merrett has to cop some of the blame for listening to their bs visions for so long, finally the penny has dropped

but will essendon punish him so much for taking them on their word for so long, that they will keep him there & deny him any chance of a flag & probably no more finals?

surely loses captaincy if he requests,so 2frdp?or hang onto a disgruntled 30yo going through motions to end of his career?

he probably gets out & there is probably no turning back already

players and their managers need to get a bit smarter in knowing what a rabble shxt show they are in & stop listening to the silver tongues

If Bobby misses out on selection in the prelim and/or granny, would it be worth a phone call? He wanted to leave GWS to play on the MCG for a big club so it doesn't seem likely he'd be interested.

But if he is feeling a diminished role and having some personal issues, maybe Brad could sell the club as a place worth considering?
Not keen

He and Brad have had a falling out because he’s off the rails. Do not want.

i wonder if Lyon would stay on in that capacity when he's done with coaching... but i think you're right if Lyon leaves we need to replace not just a senior coach but also get a new head of football
It’d need to be advisory role, such as on the board, or a similar Director role to Thompson. Whoever takes on the head coach role would need fresh air and some degree of separation. I just can’t see it working otherwise.

Barrett

"The aggressive poaching has taken a toll on already-listed Saints"

"While I like the boldness and aggression of the Saints' strategy, I vigorously question the finances attached to the incoming players, the impact they will have on 2026 results and most significantly, the already adverse effect it has had on listed Saints."

"But the only validation to it will be making a preliminary final in 2026"

He vigorously questions the finances attached to the incoming players, assumes a toll and provides a measure for success without once mentioning the 'clever' use of salary cap to allow for a poaching spree.

Not quite the balanced article.
Barret has more blind spots than the Jahari Window when it comes to the Saints

Probably in the minority, but I still feel like Macrae has something to offer in our midfield.

He’ll arguably finish second or third in our brownlow count which might not say much about the rest of the team, but his ability to win the ball in tight needs to be utilised to feed the outside runners.

Him and Steele together might not be ideal, but either one should still be heavily featured at CBA’s.

His drop off from the first couple of games compared to the rest of the year was pretty significant. Need to get that back.

Heard the same thing. Think Bradley attempted to help Bobby with his situation and backfired?
"One person he’s always been really close to is his cousin, Brad Hill; I understand there’s been a falling out there between the two families,” Wilson said.

“Partly, I think, because Brad Hill attempted to perform some form of intervention, and actually reached out to the Collingwood Football Club, he was so worried about his cousin.

“I don’t think that went down too well with Bobby Hill, and I think that there have been days where he’s just been uncontactable by anyone. Days leading to even a week at some point.

Its not gospel, but that was what Caro said a month or so ago.

Macrae was elite until he got that punctured lung/broken ribs. After that, still serviceable. Somewhat ironic that we finally got a gun in to help Steele, only to realise Steele was going to be pushed out of our starting line-up.

I'm not surprised to hear Collingwood are having a sniff around Caminiti.

He's unlikely to be first choice for us next year...

Seems to me likely to come down to either lose him this year for a pick in the 20s or next year (when he comes out of contract) in the 40s or beyond.
Na. He played every game this year (or there abouts)?

He's got a spot as a fwd or def. He'll get games and should be one of our better improvers.

I think it's more likely Tauru will go forward than Caminiti

You must not have met many engineering students.

A couple of my friends who did engineering were mathematical geniuses.

But talk to them about anything else and you would swear they were the dumbest people you'd ever met. Seriously struggle to get out a sentence. But put some technical drawings in front of them with some complex equations and they can skim over it like its a breakfast menu.
I know a guy who went to ANU for Actuarial Studies and I've seen him crap his dacks as an adult... twice.

I know some absolute morons who had good ATARs and some of the stupidest people I know are lawyers. It's not irrefutable proof of intelligence but I do think it's probably not ideal to use that type of slur on a person from an outside perception. That said I'd have nothing to say if I couldn't slur people I don't know.
"I stand by my ethnic slur, do your worst you filthy pretentious savages.”

What we all know about Damian , that he doesn't know about himself? Hmmm let me see....
Would love to see the pr1ck get stuck in his own sliding door 😬

Can confirm the above. He does get pulled up at training a fair bit, but from memory is coming from a fair way back only a handful of Northern Knights games, missed being drafted and was knocking about in the Carlton VFL team.

Don't think he is naturally gifted with strategy and positioning. Still a see ball get ball player.
Reminds me of Acres, can be a real space cadet then suddenly do the spectacular. Will need to work harder than most in a Lyon trained team on structure and positioning.
That's why it's probably best to persist with him as a defender. Nullify your man, that's it.
