2025 List Management Discussion - Part 3

Now that our season is over, and news is starting to break - it's time for a fresh thread.

This thread is to discuss all things list management - trades, draft, free agency, delistings and more.
As we are now officially in our off-season, we'll be wanting to keep this thread more strictly on-topic than the previous iterations.
Be respectful. You are allowed to disagree with someone - but play the ball, not the man. Repeat offenders will have their posting rights revoked.

Thanks to Lore once again for this incredibly useful spreadsheet.

Free Agency Period:
Friday, October 3rd - Friday, October 10th

Hey ,

Not sorry for intruding tbh. Loving what you're doing. Was a Saints fan until my cousin played for North . Fun fact you've a relation of his there currently.

Just us battlers needed someone to shove it up the establishment. And you're doing it.

In the great minds of the AFL we're ' fillers' and it pisses me off.

And for my boys we got a small fwd who played ten games in 2025 and kicked one goal.

FMD and FML.

Best of luck and I'll be watching
Thank you.

Thank you for not saying, “I come in peace”.

Thank you for not saying, “Sorry for intruding”.

Welcome to share positive thoughts to boost our egos anytime.

I can’t believe people are actually legitimately discussing JUH.

Even if you gave absolutely no air to the disharmony rumours moving Roma and possibly Steele on to turn around and get JUH (even if it’s on rookie wages) would be a straight bullet to any culture we’re trying to build.
As the Prez said - “If we are going to die, we are going to die with our boots on and not be scared to have a go. This is what we are about as a football club.”

Just Do It!!!

Haha . Facts are facts we just got an RFA for 3 years who played as a small fwd and kicked 1 goal in ten games in 2025.

It shows that you get what you pay for . I hope one day we wake up to ourselves before it is to late .

You want to attract the best available you gotta pay em.

If this works and you start to climb others will come.
Best of luck

It's quite eye-opening when you compare the work of SOS, Gubby, and Dalrymple in such a short period of time to the work of Rawlings & co

The way our guys have been able to capitalise on an innovative strategy by leveraging a rule that hardly anyone knew of whilst also doing the basics better than most (drafting)

Feeling grateful to finally have some competent admin even though we are yet to see the fruits - feels like we're on the right track

Yes, at least three years in the making, looking like we will land 4 players who could move the needle.
We really need for our draftees to step up. NAZ had, Wilson after a bad year rose to the challenge in the final game, Garcia and Hall are really coming on in leaps and bounds and we have the exciting potential of Tauru and Travaglia.
They step up, with King, Pou, Henry and Howard being fit, plus the recruits, weneed to be finals bound.

What was the rule that hardley anyone knew of?

At least you got pick 2 for Ben Mckay to be off your list
On 1.3 mill.
What a shocker from the Essendon fc

Surely has to force his way out now

Poor ol' Redman had those offers to go home to SA a year or two ago and turned them down to stay loyal. Since then, Ridley, Draper and Merrett have cashed out to try and chase some kind - any kind - of success. Its enough to make you see red, man.

This may sound like the ramblings of a total crack head (could well be)

But is there any chance we have our monster FB (when needed) in Rowan Marshall?

9/10 the mobile and tall enough backline we appear to have put together actually looks pretty good, we just need a beast to play on the teams that have the big boys.

His footy brain and marking abilities are right up there.

I like it!

Marshall has many reasons to go to the Cats ; guaranteed finals, chance of a flag, family down that way...plus the more country lifestyle.

The only reason to go to the Dons would be $$$$$ if the Dons stump up a huge deal. Dons will be heavily rebuilding. So lean success and enjoyable playing in his remaining years. ie Why do you thing Merrett wants out? Marshall would be the same mind.
Totally agree with you. I'm just saying I'm surprised Essendon aren't having a dip.

I wouldn't wish playing for Essendon on my worst enemy

Just my 2 cents on Henry Hustwaite.

I picked him as a bench player in my super coach team this year so I spent 2 games watching him really closely.

Absolutely elite on the inside no trouble winning the ball in close and can hold his own against the best.

The only problem and it’s a big problem he absolutely gets lost in transition and can’t get involved when the ball is being spread as he’s just so slow and the ball moves past him so quickly.

Elite VFL player sadly just doesn’t have the pace for AFL and he gets found out.

Hopefully proves me wrong and goes on to have a good AFL career.

"The aggressive poaching has taken a toll on already-listed Saints"

"While I like the boldness and aggression of the Saints' strategy, I vigorously question the finances attached to the incoming players, the impact they will have on 2026 results and most significantly, the already adverse effect it has had on listed Saints."

"But the only validation to it will be making a preliminary final in 2026"

He vigorously questions the finances attached to the incoming players, assumes a toll and provides a measure for success without once mentioning the 'clever' use of salary cap to allow for a poaching spree.

Not quite the balanced article.
Does he question the finances of Geelong, Carlton and more recently Brisbane? Conveniently he doesn't

Correct me if I'm wrong, but even at our club's lowest points, we didn't ever have our captain / mvp demanding to leave and not attending his own club's best and fairest, where he was guaranteed to be the winner. Lol
Those campaigners have some hide talking disparagingly about culture of our club: theirs is rotten to the absolute core. At this stage, sending them off to Tasmania would seem like a mercy kill.

Despite all this, I hope they refuse to trade him
Well if we are keen on CMAC here is our big chance
Pick 7 for him ( which is about pick 12) in a weak draft for a mid with 3 years development.
7 and 8 to Injectors from the wees and poos.
Injectors at least 4 in the top ten ( maybe 5 with Draper compo) Family Planning club with Merrett, Saints with CMAC
