2025 List Management Discussion - Part 3

Now that our season is over, and news is starting to break - it's time for a fresh thread.

This thread is to discuss all things list management - trades, draft, free agency, delistings and more.
As we are now officially in our off-season, we'll be wanting to keep this thread more strictly on-topic than the previous iterations.
Be respectful. You are allowed to disagree with someone - but play the ball, not the man. Repeat offenders will have their posting rights revoked.

Thanks to Lore once again for this incredibly useful spreadsheet.

Cam Mackenzie is in play.

Club working on him and Flanders.

I don’t know if it’s one or the other or both.

I hope it’s both.
Well If Hawks are after both Merrett & Butters and manage to get one of them then somethings got to give for someone like McKenzie. He'd be no chance of getting a game next year with Day, Newcombe, Worpel, Ward, Nash & Merrett

Merrett is worth pick 8 only according to Hawks
Bombers fans on SEN expecting 3 first rounders 🤣🤣🤣 They are a different breed the children of Dodoro
Reckon Hawthorn are also a different breed if they reckon a contracted Captain of the club is only worth one first round pick.

If I am Essendon I am making them pay a tax if they want him . Might potentially be the missing piece for a premiership for the Mrs Mitchell’s .

That tax should be Cam Mackenzie finding his way to the Saints .

I’d take CMAC over Flanders but if they are going for both then I’m not complaining.

That being said, not sure how their midfield opportunities would improve? Steele, Macrae, Nasiah, Phillipou(?), Flanders, CMAC, Boxshall, Garcia

Tobie / Clark shunted to half back.
Windy to wing, maybe even Box too.
Phillipou, Hall, Owens forward line (unless Pou as a mid really comes on).

It would be VERY hot in the kitchen, I think one of CMAC/Flanders more likely than both given would be competing for spots. It’ll be easier said than done to push Macrae out if we are aiming for finals next year.

+ TDK, RYAN, SILVANGI if we have minimal injuries our seconds side would be class.

I agree. Hawks have been a bit shady talking to Merrett, now they want to underpay because the Bombers have to trade him because it’s untenable for him to stay. We copped the Hawks method with Battle last year. I’m really starting to dislike the way they are going about obtaining players

I agree. As much as I'm not a fan of Essendon, looking at the bigger picture, if a top four team wants to pinch the captain (and best player) of a bottom four team they can stump up some serious currency.

People who go to school near trees are so privileged
I think this is sarcastic but to be clear im not suggesting JUH has had a priveleged upbringing, i understand that his developmental years were pretty tough by anyones standards, my point was that someone speaking well with some introspection now doesnt necesarily mean anything, most of the guys i know through the private school system have some finishing skills and next to no introspection.

Almost like being a wealthy, well heeled and unearned respected person in your most formative years in a system that rewards money and athletic feats breeds a degree of arrogance in young men.

I agree with ...gulp... the Dopers on this one.

Contracted for 2 more years, already had his deal upped twice... and the club captain FFS.

Essendon should make Hawthorn bleed over this.

They should cough up at least 2 x 1sts plus some decent steak knives.

Somewhere in between.
Pick 7 and 8 which in this draft is about 12 and 13
Hawks - Merrett
Essendon 4 picks in the top 13 plus Draper
Saints CMAC

I think I'm a bit undecided on Mackenzie.

I think the romance of getting our NGA player back has been clouding my judgement. I'd love to see a package of him absolutely dominating, I'm not saying I'm off him, but I just want to see it from my own two eyes.

Close to 50 games. Averages 14 touches across each of his 3 seasons, not a goal kicker and in my view has no single outstanding attribute. He could explode but my gut on him is that he has about found his level and that is probably borne out be the fact that he has been very consistent across his career in output and Hawks moving him down the list this year.

Surely if it’s a choice of Carlton, saints and Melbourne he chooses us ?! If he decides to go…

I know he knows Melbourne’s new coach, but get around the hype Flanders!!
I think it’s a choice between us and Melbourne.

I was a lot more confident before King got appointed.

Hopefully it’s irrelevant and the club already had it sorted.

Mitchell is sneaky and devious. He is breaking long held ethics and conventions that a senior coach doesn’t personally immerse himself into the lives of players from other clubs.

Further to that, he is also using his spouse as part of the pitch as she befriends the spouse/partner of targeted recruits.

Other clubs dislike what he is doing but, as Brad Scott said, the ground is shifting.

Other clubs will start targeting Hawthorn and soon they will be the victims. Everyone abides by the same salary cap and number of list spots.

I think if he goes he will nominate us.

Only because of the last 4 weeks of NAS, TDK, Ryan, sos and Ryan wanting or confirmed to be coming to us.

Even take out emotion.

Logical decision would be saints with young talent, proven coach and incoming players.

Whereas, Melbourne have rumblings about their culture last few years, trac and Oliver might be going etc.

Thanks for the info though Stav.
