2025 List Management Discussion - Part 4

Now that our season is over, and news is starting to break - it's time for a fresh thread.

This thread is to discuss all things list management - trades, draft, free agency, delistings and more.
As we are now officially in our off-season, we'll be wanting to keep this thread more strictly on-topic than the previous iterations.
Be respectful. You are allowed to disagree with someone - but play the ball, not the man. Repeat offenders will have their posting rights revoked.

Thanks to Lore once again for this incredibly useful spreadsheet.

So Geelong are trying to take the upper hand and believe we need to do the deal for $$$. If the noise about us front ending Marshall's contract to meet 95% is true, then that puts that to bed pretty quickly
Yep. This was the line they got Sam Edmund to peddle this morning.

It's going to be real interesting how this plays out.

So that Damo Barrett can discuss it at nausim during his segment this afternoon and critique that it's overs without providing any further context.
He’s just taking a well earned break at the mo.

I boundary umpired a fair few games this year for APS and AGSV and saw Fincher play a few games in person (apart from when they rested him lmao).

Was pretty comfortably close to the best player in every game he played. Always played as a midfielder and had a bit of mongrel in him. Very lippy.

Obviously in the AFL the team isn’t going to be built around him and won’t look for him so we’ll see how he can adjust but I can see him making it.
He's a bloody tough kid...played the last 2 months with cracked ribs, BOG in his only VFL game!

For the millionth time, there wasn't a way we could make room for the mid-season draft lol.

Literally none without the benefit of hindsight - which you know...doesn't exist at the crucial time.

God you an ignorant individual, of course there was. Cordy had a long term injury at the time, tell him it's over and use him in another club role until the end of the year.

Max King didn't play again all year.

There are always ways the list numbers can be manipulated.

Pretty simple actually. We’ll tell Geelong to give us what we want or Marshall is staying.

This is exactly right. What pressure do we have to get this deal done?

Marshall can come back and play for us in 2026, and help us make a move toward finals. It's not financially driven for us - this move is not a salary dump so why would we consider anything less than a premium price?

For context, this year's pick 7 is more like pick 12 after 1 FA compensation pick (Oscar Allen) and 3 academy picks (Uwland, Patterson, Annabel) and 1 father son pick (Harry Dean). then it's a bargain.

Funny that Flanders' wikipedia page already has him playing for us. :)
Anyone that question Flanders worth should look at his highlights from 2024!

Flanders was the one I wanted so its great to get it done early.

Midfield was always an important spot to get at least one upgrade- if that's all we'd done with the free agents then I wouldn't complain.

We all know there's more to come, but I'd be relaxed if we went home and didnt answer any calls for a week.

Does it really matter if 7 ends up 12? You’d more than likely pick the player you wanted at 7

We know mate. He had a very good half a season. If that's how he plays for the rest of his career than 7 is a bargain.

On the other hand, it was half a season and while there are most likely reasons for the drop off, he has dropped off this year.

For what it's worth I don't think we are hugely over paying for him but I see his value closer to a later first than an early. Pick 12 (where it likely ends up) sits somewhere in the middle.

I think fair value would see us getting something back, but I'm not gonna bitch and moan if that's what it ends up.

I've been on the Flanders bandwagon for the last couple of years so it's just nice to see him choose us.

Here we go :tearsofjoy:

You can't delist a player mid-season, mate. It's not a thing. There is something called the AFLPA that protects players rights. You can't place a player on the long-term injury list against their wishes.

Get with reality.

If the club and Max King knew he wasn't going to play in 2025, they would have put him on the LTI list, chief.

Hindsight is a wonderful thing.

I cannot believe you still haven't grasped this.

It's not ignorance. It's reality.

He had a delayed start to this year & they played him forward...he's a mid/ half back

Pick 7 in this year's draft is actually pick 12 after academy, FA compensation and father son picks.

Pick 7 is worth more to the Gold Coast than it is to us.

They're using it on Zeke Uwland and his mates at the nepo factory, regardless.

Which annoys me slightly - we're making things a lot easier for GC, we could have pushed a bit harder.

Id rather we just get some deals going TBH, we can **** around with a swap of third or whatever but who cares.

We clearly dont care about this years draft so being more proactive is better than dicking around IMO.
We may need a pick/points coming back for a bid on Fincher.
Yes, we have definitively stated that we will use pick 7.
Doesn't mean we wont get anything back in return though.
A wait & see.

We might have other deals on the boil with Gold Coast.

They have too many talented lads that will never get opportunities.

Yep. Back injury delayed his start to the year.

Him & Sheezel were my first picked for SC this year before the delayed start :tearsofjoy:
