2025 List Management Discussion - Part 4

Now that our season is over, and news is starting to break - it's time for a fresh thread.

This thread is to discuss all things list management - trades, draft, free agency, delistings and more.
As we are now officially in our off-season, we'll be wanting to keep this thread more strictly on-topic than the previous iterations.
Be respectful. You are allowed to disagree with someone - but play the ball, not the man. Repeat offenders will have their posting rights revoked.

Thanks to Lore once again for this incredibly useful spreadsheet.

2025 KEY DATES
Free Agency Period:
Friday, October 3rd - Friday, October 10th
Trade Period: Monday, October 6th - Wednesday, October 15th
AFL Draft: Wednesday, November 19th - Thursday, November 20th

What if there is a crazy world where Geelong do end up offering more than their first?
If they are serious about loading up and having a crack at a flag next year it’s not beyond the realms of possibility. They will be desperate to get Marshall. We’ll be setting the price. Take it or leave it.

The cats have been used to getting their way with trades - GAJ, Dangerfield, Cameron. I don’t think they’ve have to deal with SOS, Gubby and Ross before though. Might be different this time around.
We’re not giving up our aim of making the 8 to help them win another flag.
Marshall is our player.

Contracted.

Geelong desperately want him.

It doesn’t matter if they are used to getting their own way. It’s actually going to be quite funny watching it all play out.

Hopefully our blokes make them squirm. There is a fair chance Mackie will sook it up in the media.

Sounds like we are already prepared to give up 7 for Flanders?
Then it’s going to have to be around pick 12 for ourselves then.

So hypothetically.

7 + Marshall for 12 + Flanders.

Take it to the draft or shop it for Cmac.

I think we all agree. P17 won’t get it done.

Isn't their talk that Danger, Danger, Danger Butler may be reunited with Dimma?

If Fincher gets bid on around the pick 20-30 range what do we need in terms of picks/points to match it?

I heard it here a while ago, but not anywhere else.

I'm more than prepared to move him on. Ryan / Collard is the way

Yeah I suggested a three way trade involving GC and Geelong the other day.

Saints give
Marshall, 7
Saints receive
Flanders, 13, F2

Geelong give
17, F2
Geelong receive
Marshall

GC give
13, Flanders
GC receive
7, 17

Probably needs some tinkering to even it out, but that might the closest we can get to swapping Marshall for Flanders.

Geelong get Marshall
Saints get Marshall (keep a first)
Gold Coast improve their points

Marshall is the obvious currency for us with TDK coming in (and the emergence of Dodson) if we want Liam Ryan, Leek Aleer and Sam Flanders we probably need to move someone on with some value or basically stuff this year and next years draft.

For me, I could see something like:

- Marshall for Pick 17 and a future 2nd round pick from Geelong.

- Pick 7 and 17 for Flanders and 13

- Our future 2nd for Liam Ryan.

- Geelong's future 2nd for Leek Aleer.

- Potentially a late pick for Heath.

Pick 13 to the draft for Pou 2 and pick 43 + 58 for Fincher bid (possibly need to use both).

IN: TDK, JSOS, Flanders, Ryan, Aleer, Pou #2 and Fincher.

OUT: Marshall, Heath, McLennan, Boyd, Webster, Carroll, Jones.

Surely that improves the quality of our list a fair bit?

Geelong need to stump up more.

I had a Quick Look at the spreadsheet and it appears a bid at 20. Would require pick 23, and a bid at 30 would require pick 33. After the second round we’d only need our next available pick.

It would, but I think we’d need another ruck. We’d be asking a lot of Dodson and leaving ourselves exposed if TDK went down.
