2025 List Management Discussion - Part 4

Now that our season is over, and news is starting to break - it's time for a fresh thread.

This thread is to discuss all things list management - trades, draft, free agency, delistings and more.
As we are now officially in our off-season, we'll be wanting to keep this thread more strictly on-topic than the previous iterations.
Be respectful. You are allowed to disagree with someone - but play the ball, not the man. Repeat offenders will have their posting rights revoked.

Thanks to Lore once again for this incredibly useful spreadsheet.

It's all about the steak knives; the regal steak knives
Must admit, it’s a weird thing for Gubby to say that it’s likely a straight swap and not to expect we ourselves will be throwing in steak knives. I know one bit is media and the real stuff is behind closed doors, but if I’m the Suns I’m saying ok cool, so it’s 7 minimum, what about a F3 too.

Just heard on trade radio that Essendon are into Jack Steele. Interesting if so.

They are getting ready for trading Merrett. Will want a young player and a pick. Any young players we will be interested in? maybe Archie Roberts and a 2nd round pick

I'd give pick 7 for Archie Roberts.

No chance for Steele & steak knives.

I still think when Ro requested a trade last year - we told him "we're not trading you with no replacement, give us 12 more months, we'll find someone to come in and then we'll look at doing a deal"

Bringing in TDK hasn't cost Ro his spot, it's freed him up to leave.

A question for the 25 people who liked this post.

If St Kilda hadn't signed TDK, would Marshall be leaving?

If your answer is yes, then explain why the rumors of Marshall leaving emerged later in the season, once it was basically confirmed TDK was coming.

Was it merely a coincidence that our number 1 ruck just happened to decide he wanted out, immediately after it was confirmed he'd be replaced as our number 1 ruck?
So if we only got TDK this year, why did Roma request a trade to Geelong last year? Was it in anticipation of TDK's arrival? Or was it, the same as this year, a lifestyle choice for the boy from Portland!

As someone who lived in Portland for a number of years, I can tell you that these days he will have a 4.5 hour drive from the South east of Melbourne, or a 2.5 to 3 hour hour drive from a property on the west side of Geelong.

Didn’t he ask the club if he could be traded last year?

How about 2nd round pick this year and Future 1st next year
it's interesting that their first rounder (19) will blow out to ~25 and their second rounder (40) should come into ~35, due to the glut of second rounders that will be used to match bids. used to be 3rds/4ths but new DVI has changed things. so those two picks are really only 10 or so spots apart

in light of that I think F1 + 40 for Marshall + 50 is a reasonable deal. likely that we only take one live pick into the draft and that pick 40 is in a sweet spot for dealing with a potential Fincher bid (or otherwise).

even 19+40 isn't that bad, less upside than F1+40 but we can pick with the first one and then trade the other for a future 2nd if Fincher gets through

Paton was a good trier but he didn't have any standout star qualities to him IMO
He was a quite achiever he had a patch where he keep the best in the business very quite.

He’s a big bigger than some think at 187cm and tested top 10 in the sprint and vertical leap in his draft year. He wasn’t a standout that’s for sure, a big loose by foot and not massive rebound but a very good stopper.

We have a few who could play that role, we just need one of them to stand up.

Saints media team: Can we take a video of Max back running again?

Ross: IF….there is no wind, nobody else on the field and they have cut the grass so he doesn’t trip over. You have 1 take cos he’s only doing ONE jog through. Then let him get back to his weights again
