2025 List Management Discussion - Part 4

Now that our season is over, and news is starting to break - it's time for a fresh thread.

This thread is to discuss all things list management - trades, draft, free agency, delistings and more.
As we are now officially in our off-season, we'll be wanting to keep this thread more strictly on-topic than the previous iterations.
Be respectful. You are allowed to disagree with someone - but play the ball, not the man. Repeat offenders will have their posting rights revoked.

Thanks to Lore once again for this incredibly useful spreadsheet.

2025 KEY DATES
Free Agency Period:
Friday, October 3rd - Friday, October 10th
Trade Period: Monday, October 6th - Wednesday, October 15th

Yeh i mean he might say no, but if they splash some cash and throw a decent pick at us, im sure wed all talk.
I think Steele wants to stay, as a (now) former captain of the club who is now convinced we are about to play finals. As far as a trade is concerned, he is the roadblock.

**** im so over the media.

Does anyone have the stones to ask GWS their opinion on theit treatment of McCarthy then. Bloke had mental health issues and they stopped him from relocating.

Like on the scale of things aleer is bad but its no where near the shit GWS pulled with McCarthy if we are going to talk about mental health.

At the end of the day if we still wanted Aleer we'd have tried harder to get a deal done. We've decided we don't really want him which is why people are mad. I don't really care and find a lot of the comments over the top but really we did kind of screw him over. But it sounds like he has plenty of offers still and will be fine although misses out on the big pay day we had promised.

Marshall isn’t off the table and the boss and his team have been locked away for a fair bit today 🤔
It does feel way too ewrly to be shutting up shop. The hard fast on aleer points to something else. Otherwise it'd drag out

Can you point me to a quote where the club has painted GWS as the villains?

The club hasn't said much... they've said nothing.

It's pretty simple for me.

StK had a price that they were willing to pay pick wise (F2 & F3 for Aleer & F2).

Getting the F2 back would allow them to get the Ryan deal done.

Not getting that F2 back meant they needed to make a call... & Ryan was the priority.

They let the manager know that we're out & he's loses his sh!t (because he loses his fat commish & has to get off his fat ar5e & do some work).

I wouldn't be surprised if we intended to come back to the table IF the Giants decided to relent after they had done the Clarry deal.

The manager blowing it all up has made that an impossibility.

The furore that has followed is a mix of clubs & media wanting to belt us for what we've been doing & the current media and social media landscape that catastrophises relatively minor stuff.
I am guessing the details of our offer would have been fed by us to make it look like at least we tried

If we genuinely wanted Aleer, I don't think we would tell his manager we're out just because we happened to trade the F2 for Ryan. We would tell him we no longer have a F2 so go and put some more pressure on the Giants to get it done for a F3. Otherwise we walk him to the PSD. There would still be an ongoing negotiation in this case.

Instead we've told him we aren't pursuing his client any more & that he should start exploring other options. There is no coming back to the table from here

I’m all good with not getting Aleer but not thrilled with how it’s panned out. You’d like to think every conversation with him came with the caveat ‘provided we can get a trade done’ but I’m not sure it has. It’s strange the way it came out as well with a straight off hard no. We could have released a statement saying that the teams are at loggerheads and a deal is no guarantee.
It would have softened the blow and given GWS a chance to reconsider before everything blew up.

Anyway, hopefully the cats can’t get Curnow either,

I’d love to swoop in and get Curnow ahead of the Cats but that’s impossible.

Jack Steele situation is interesting, he’d rather stay with us even after effectively being asked to leave. He must really love the place. Happy to have him stay and hopefully he proves the coaches wrong.
I’m pretty keen to see what Steeley is capable of if he has to fight for his position for the first time in 8 years. Hope he stays

I will never understand how purple got into a position where he reports on his opinions. Hosting, sure, fine, reporting on facts, whatever. But his opinion is about as valuable as the shit I took this morning
The saddest thing is that his hosting and talking is worse than his know-nothing opinions. And I’m not being funny here. He’s terrible.

At everything! His mum says he’s an f wit.

Who was the Cats player Chris Scott bragged about keeping because he was contracted despite his family breaking down?

In what world was there an expectation Marshall would be traded.

Ross literally said he was contracted and he wanted to retain him. So I have no idea where that expectation came from that he'd be traded.
There was absolutely an expectation wed discuss (in good faith) a deal with Geelong
Is shattered Curnow crying into his tea leaves in Europe and asked his manager to call some other clubs, like Sydney? Won’t somebody think of the footballers with fall back contracts???
Has anyone suggested Geelong is done? Walked away? Cause thats the issue we have, not that our offer wasnt accepted.

People keep doing this as the comparison and its not.

My wife: I just saw all the condolences on the AFL website, tributes from the Dogs etc….terrible news about Aleer dying.

Me: what? No, he didn’t die, he’s just probably going to get about $500k next year instead of $700k.

**Dramatisation, may not have happened
*$375k !

Yeh i get that, again, if North or whoever throws him a shitload of money and some love he might be re interested.

The issue we have is told the truth when it was apparent and he can now go get his deal. I suppose we won’t know with geelong until it’s too late. Hopefully Marshall won’t miss another opportunity if that is the case.

Josh Jenkins reckons he spoken to someone ITK that Aleer ends up at StK still
