2025 List Management Discussion - Part 4

Now that our season is over, and news is starting to break - it's time for a fresh thread.

This thread is to discuss all things list management - trades, draft, free agency, delistings and more.
As we are now officially in our off-season, we'll be wanting to keep this thread more strictly on-topic than the previous iterations.
Be respectful. You are allowed to disagree with someone - but play the ball, not the man. Repeat offenders will have their posting rights revoked.

Thanks to Lore once again for this incredibly useful spreadsheet.

Free Agency Period:
Friday, October 3rd - Friday, October 10th

Can’t wait for the lack of updates over the weekend, but which won’t stop the minutely page refresh. Quite exciting!

I believe that the cats just thought we would bend over and accept the first for Marshall. A lot of smoke and mirrors ATM, hoping that we still bend over.
Depending on how badly Geelong want Marshall, it might get becoming more interesting next week. I can't see Geelong getting either or both of Marshall or Curnow without loosing players and picks.
I just hope that we still do want Marshall and that he is still part of our future plans, because without a trade for players making us better, loosing marshall for picks makes no sense.
I really hope Geelong don’t get either player

Not sure Caminitti as a CHF is ever going to take us to the promised land
Brisbane just won the flag with Morris yes but one of Fort/Big O as a key forward and a first year player whose name I can’t even remember. Let’s not overrate their importance.

Im keen to see how Hammer & King go being fed by a midfield of Nas, Flanders, Sinc, Hall, Macrae, Pou, Box, Wilson & Windy vs the previous team of Steele, Jones, Clark, Byrnes and Bonner/DMac.

The trouble is, it might take two seasons for them to get used to it. 🥴

Not sure I agree, you can always get away with average players somewhere if you have good players elsewhere. Probably plenty of average tall forwards have played in grand finals - I vaguely remember us getting beaten by Chris Dawes who was never much better than a solid player.

The ideal fwd model for Caminiti is Brody Mihocek.

2023 comparison - the year the Pies won the flag and Caminiti had just walked in off the street and was playing as a sole key fwd (and part time ruck) for fair chunks of the season.

He'll be very good for us playing fwd next year.

Hammer & King sounds like a cheesy 80s series about a couple of wiseguy lawyers moonlighting as detectives in Florida or LA. I can hear the Mike Post theme tune now. Plenty of sax and electric guitar!

Theres no way hawks agree to that
3 pieces,2 firsts and say scrimshaw, why not?remember they only lose one of their own picks, scrimshaw and mackenzie/saints F1 is the same thing,so merrett for 3 pieces, its not far fetched, they still keep their own F1

same position as geelong with roma, you want a fair dinkum shot at a flag with roma?or you want to wheel rhys stanley out in his chair to try to close the gap on the lions, for what might be a steak knives F2?

I was gonna say what was the pies forward line in the 23 granny? Mihocek, DeGoey, Hill… **** knows who else was there, mcreery I think.

If your structure works and everyone plays to it etc.

21 year old key forward that has played 56 games in 3 seasons, a good portion of those playing out of position.

Think it’s a bit early to suggest that. I’d suggest he is a fair way ahead of most gun tall forwards this early in his career.

When he has played with King he has done nothing but get in the way. His game sense will had to of improved out of site to be the solution.
I love his effort but I agree with this sentiment. I’m not sure the Footballing IQ (I know he’s a genius don’t come for me) is there to be a forward at AFL level.

His best bet is to continue to develop as a defender that gets taken to contests and beats his man.

I don’t think we need to worry about his existence with King though. There’s no world where he plays alongside King, a resting ruck, Owens & Sharman and he’s not playing ahead of them either.

I agree that most young gun forwards take time, but they also show natural forward craft which Hammer hasn’t really.

You can see glimpses of what they might be if they piece it together. I said it a while back, but I think his ceiling as a forward is a Levi Casbolt style of mark and kick only.

God almighty, you'd think we committed some kind of crime against humanity against Leek.

Saints did a real shitty thing. It will be seen as Ryan over Aleer once the emotion is gone. Personally, I think it is a mistake and if Aleer goes on to fulfill his potential (I think he will) it will be another trade/draft choice that the rest of the AFL will enjoy rubbing our noses in.

For all the hand wringing going on, the fact is that the Saints have nailed the trades and free agency this year and even with no further trades will have had the best outcome of any team by a country mile. We can look forward to a great preseason.

If we're playing and winning finals I dont care what Aleer does elsewhere. We pitched a deal, got countered and walked away.
