2025 List Management Discussion - Part 4

Now that our season is over, and news is starting to break - it's time for a fresh thread.

This thread is to discuss all things list management - trades, draft, free agency, delistings and more.
As we are now officially in our off-season, we'll be wanting to keep this thread more strictly on-topic than the previous iterations.
Be respectful. You are allowed to disagree with someone - but play the ball, not the man. Repeat offenders will have their posting rights revoked.

Thanks to Lore once again for this incredibly useful spreadsheet.

2025 KEY DATES
Free Agency Period:
Friday, October 3rd - Friday, October 10th
Trade Period: Monday, October 6th - Wednesday, October 15th
AFL Draft: Wednesday, November 19th - Thursday, November 20th

It's more likely to be Soldo than Butters, you guys need to chill 😂
I don't want to believe it's not Butters. We are a top 4 side as early as next year if he's in.
It's been said the Cats and Bulldogs are the likely frontrunners due to their proximity to his home town, notwithstanding his support of the Dogs as a kid. I know Andrew Bassat doesn't own a helicopter but his close mate, Saint's tragic and ex Pres Lindsay Fox does. A helicopter would plonk Zac in Darley from Moorabbin in about 20 minutes with no traffic to deal with. And I imagine it wouldn't take much longer from Adelaide for both of our away games there. Is it world's away from the enticements offered to players by the Cats over many years? Or even Mrs Mitchell familiarising Mrs Battle with the enhanced child care facilities at Dingley?
Come on Andrew, get creative. Invite Zac and Lindsay over. I read somewhere Zac likes purple lollies. Ross could turn up with Nas on his shoulders for a bit of fun as well. Get it done. It's just a helicopter, not rocket science. And if the AFL have an issue with it, so be it. We'll cop the 30k fine.

In addition to tying De Koning to a deal through to 2033, the Saints also shelled out a six-year offer to help with the race for Sam Flanders while Jack Silvagni signed a five-year contract in his free agency move to RSEA Park

Oh, well played

I tend to opt out of the media and general footy public consensus, since it’s often broad strokes to the extreme.

However, from what I do glimpse, I’m starting to get peeved at the sentiment of “Good on the saints! Glad to see them having a crack, good for them!”

Well intentioned I’m sure, but really highlights the condescending level of irrelevancy this club has had for the better part of 15 years now.

Next two years as a consolidated push, and then our kids taking us home for the foreseeable future thereafter, is the time to either make our mark or not in the 2020s and 30s and change public opinion through success.

Yep, they’re good points. I’m very intrigued to see how it would go, as much as anything to see what the more permanent support/protection does for Max. But one more year on, Ro one year older and - unless TDK is injured - Ro will have a quieter year purely through structure. It will quickly go from a 1st to a late 2nd or less.
Max is a 25 year old 200 plus cm key forward. He shouldn't need to be baby sat anymore. He's got Sharman, Owens and even Caminiti if needed.

Brisbane just won a flag with a 20 year old as their main key forward.

And agree, his value will only go down very fast after this year. Need to make hay while the sun shines.

Anyone else find it interesting that…

Battle (left)
Marshall (wanting to leave)
Steele (has been asked to leave)
Wilson (yet to re-sign and rumours he may want out)

Along with Howard (previously shopped)

Are all managed by the same management group.

Of which the only client who seems happy with us is Wood and we haven’t been linked to a single Hemisphere client in return.

🤔

Anyone recognise these people? McDonald seems familiar

Don't worry it won't last!

He didn’t necessarily fail the medical. We weren’t comfortable on it with the deal offered.

We know the player and have his medical. If a deal for Marshall happens. It makes sense if it’s cheap
As a “ break glass in case of emergency player” only, surely?

Agreed. Unfortunately there's probably nothing that can be done about it unless we become a serious flag contender.

Think of him as the new Tom Campbell. He'll be on a one year deal and will play VFL unless there's injuries.
If that’s the secret deal that the club is apparently working on, it’s a little o underwhelming though 🤣

You only work on the deal if Marshal is going
I'd rather back in Dodson/Keeler

edit.
I'll expand more
Keeler, surely it's make or break in '26
Run them both in the VFL, 50/50 split forward, or if 1 is playing AFL, we look at getting a VFL ruck to actually play in the VFL to partner.

we keep wasting spots on blokes who are never going to be anything other than a stopgap

I can't imagine Port agreeing to a Butters trade without Pou involved. 🙁

Hope the Adelaide based player Ollie’s referring to is Whitlock, imagine the Port melts if he was randomly traded to us

I’ll throw up another name, Elliott Himmelberg, struggling to get a game at GC but can play either end of the ground.

Remember when the crow Port and Pug fans were adamant you can’t force a player to move
Honestly if I was Florent (or any player floated as a piece for a trade) I’d happily go.

If your club would rather someone else and another club shows they want you, go there.
